dkonsta1 109 Report post Posted March 29, 2016 Anyone can share experience with MK4 navi units on any of the above 3,5,7 series and the wide screens? Are they easy to operate? Quality of video and information? Fast enough? Reason I am asking is I found a good price for one to replace my useless Japanese navi unit. Cheers. hybrid 1043 Report post Posted March 29, 2016 The systems is very old now, it works ok but isnt the same as modern systems as far as usability goes. I think the last map update for the Carin system was 2008.

Neal 544 Report post Posted March 30, 2016 The maps are basic and arrival time is over optimistic. Points of interests are useful such as nearest gas station etc. Interface is easy to use. Voice commands can be used if a Ulf telephone module is installed. these have day and night mode and night mode is easy on the eye without too much glare. has an odb display as well. BreakMyWindow 1874 Report post Posted March 31, 2016 I had it in my old E39 M5 and loved it. You can dload a 2013 Map (Aus and NZ combined) to get it to work. It's a bit clunky, but the general layout of the Mk4 is streets ahead of the Mk2 layout.
hotwire 352 Report post Posted April 1, 2016 ^^^yep Mk 2 & 3 I have no issue in programming. Much rather a turn/ push button than finger marks all over the screen. Also take this over the Navman in my ute anyday
Neal 544 Report post Posted April 1, 2016 Reminds me, voice turn instructions are nicely mixed into factory audio system at a volume level of your choice . Basic distance before turn shows up on dash display as well so . Can also run split screen with radio on one side and intructions on other. There is a choice of voices with the Nav software version cd.
Neal 544 Report post Posted April 1, 2016 Btw, with the tv tuner module you can plug your phone video out into the BMW screen for the life's of google maps. Use voice commands to control the app for hads free.. It's a bit clunky and mono audio but does work.
