KW V2 Coilovers

Recommended Posts

I’ve just ordered some KW V2 for my 2009 LCI E91 Touring and before they arrive I was going to order everything I can replace that would be reused while I’m installing.
Would would be recommend?

Top mounts front and rear , lower mounts on the rear

The OEM rear upper shock mounts are super soft foam (presumably to compensate for runflat tyres). There's a cheap rubber bushing by Munroe that makes for a nice upgrade, FCPeuro should have them.

This is the rear upper shock mount you want, not that foam crap:
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-shock-mounting-kit-monroe-907984

:)

It has both the upper and lower portion (33506771737 and 33506771738)

The OEM one is so soft you can squeeze it in your hands, almost like a sponge.

My 335i had these, KW V2s, solid subframe bushings, M3 front arms, and a solid brace that bolted the diff to the subframe (like this: https://burgertuning.com/products/bms-differential-support-bracket-brace-for-e82-135i-and-e9x-335i)

Still rode nicely, no harsher than the stock M4 I have now. Not suggesting you need to go all-out like that, it's overkill for most people.

Thanks Matt,

That kit seems way better.

I think the M3 Arm upgrade will be on the cards later down the line. Did you have the full 11 piece kit? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-m3-control-arm-upgrade-kit-e82-e88-e90-e91-e92-e93-bmwmcaktfr

I only did the front, I did get the TRW front kit from FCP I think. The rear M3 control arms are marginally less stiff than stock actually. It saves some weight though and I imagine they're more durable, but I'd only get them if I was replacing worn parts.

You can throw a lot of money into this but I think the benefits get smaller the further you go :)

I went with the full 11 piece kit. The rear parts are definately lighter and the bushes have less movement. I did the rear first and there was an improvement in the way the rear felt. That said the M3 front conversion is quite an improvement mid corner understeer is all but eliminated.

Hey all,

So my KW V2’s arrived today and looks like they have some damage to three of the four springs.
Is this anything to worry about? I feel like I’ve paid good money for them so they should be prefect!
 What do you think???

Just cosmetic, but at that price I'd want them to be perfect. You dont want your new springs to rust.

Yeah I would think that compromises rust protection, I wouldn't be too pleased, you're paying good money for those!

At the very least, they could do a partial refund so you can get that fixed up. Would probably be easier than dealing with returns (assuming you bought from overseas).

Spoke to the guys at Racer Products where I purchased them from, sent a couple of photos and the very next day got an email from them saying that replacement springs are on the way. Excellent customer service to be fair.

I’m currently installing the front coilovers and I’m struggling to tighten the top strut nut.

Looks like I need a 22mm strut nut socket, would anyone have one I could borrow for a couple of days for know anywhere in NZ I could get one? I can only find them in the US. Don’t really want to wait 😂

I used a ‘pass through’ 22m socket on mine, a spanner  on the socket outer hex and an Allen/ hex socket through the middle on the strut with the torque wrench on it (if that makes any sense).

should be able to find pass through sockets locally?

Hi Herbmiester

Did you have any issues with tyre rubbing against locking collar of the coilovers? I have connection and I can only assume that it’s because of the extra negative camber gained from the M3 Control Arm.

I will be raising the front a bit more but I didn’t expect to have this issue.

No issues at all, but I ran Konis with Tein S Tech springs.
