Twistee 454 Report post Posted August 15, 2021 Can anyone explain why BMW spec'd the rear tires as 275/35 r19 on the wagon and 285/35 r19 on the sedan M5? I just had the rears changed to the factory size and there is a large amount of room for the 285 - so rubbing can't be the issue or smaller wheel wells. I've searched the web and couldn't find anything conclusive.
andrewm 236 Report post Posted August 16, 2021 (edited) Only reason I can think of is sidewall strength. A 285 on a 9.5 inch rim is above recommended maximum width, perhaps they figured someone putting a wagon sideways with 4 passengers and the extra luggage capacity was a bad idea on oversized tires. Or the 275 has a higher weight/ load rating. Edited August 16, 2021 by andrewm
BreakMyWindow 1874 Report post Posted August 17, 2021 maybe a skinnier tyre on the rear helps combat the wagons tendency to understeer more than the sedan ?
