ajsmith 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2006 Morning all, Finally worked out how to post pictures on the forums so yay! As you can see in the photo I have crystal look front indicators. Im not wishing I had gone for smoked or something as its making the headlights incredabily gay and they look out of place. Any one have any ideas about what I could (very cheaply) do to the headlights to improve the overal all look. Thoughts? Cheers guys
Guest Andrew Report post Posted August 24, 2006 How high is the car before photoshop? Don't know where to get lights. Car looks good otherwise.
Carl 3 Report post Posted August 24, 2006 Ditch those crystal lights and just put standard clear lenses in

ajsmith 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2006 Don't really want to put the standard lenses in for 2 reasons: 1) I spent $110 on the aftermarket lenses 2) A clip on the car broke and the standard lense fell out somewhere between work and home :S

ajsmith 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2006 The clip is on the inside and seems to be "plastic weilded" to the headlight. Looking at it at the time I thought I would have to replace the headlight to replace the clip. Perhaps this is not the case. When your saying replace the "standard clears" you mean the (in my opionion, ugly) original orange ones? ...sorry for my ignorance, I am a girl after all ... bravo 35 Report post Posted August 24, 2006 No you can get "white" indicators - they are like frosted lenses, so not crystal clear, but "clear"
ajsmith 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2006 Oh okay, learnt something new :-) I'll price it all up. The crystals are almost brand new and in perfect condition so I should be able to sell them pretty easy. I want to sort out the "broken clip attached to the headlight" before I do anything else though.
MADBMA 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2006 ha ha i broke the clip on my headlights taking out my standard indicators to, just one of the clips so the new ones fit back in but are a bit lopsided as its not supported to the headlight properly at the top, im not to worried been there like that for a while hasnt fallen out, let me no if you can fix the clip as aside from buying a new headlight it really dont look that possible aside from shotty jobs with glue. ajsmith 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2006 Okay I see what you mean now. I'll see if I can get some cheap enough. Im going over to page european after work (cambelt and some drive belts getting done today) so I'll ask them abuot the clips. Ive got the exact same clip problem, the top one attached to the headlight is missing so it doesnt pull it toward the headlight enough. Mine were shockling lopsided so I had (eeek) do some handy work with some of that 3M doublesided foam tape stuff (atleast you cant see it from outside the car). TronSpec 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2006 I bought clear one's for my e30 and just sprayed them with the window tint in a can. Any good paint shop should have it. It's special smoking tint spray in a can. $12.
sven007 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2006 I originally had orange indicators but replaced them with the standard frosted white indicators. Picture here Please excuse the cheaply done grill tied on by shoelace thing. Need to replace that lol

I have just installed Angel Eyes in mine - so I have some Clears spare. How you feel about $30 + pp for them both? ajsmith 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2006 GRRRR ... okay problem solved (kind of). As previously mentioned the clips mounted to the headlight that secured and lined up the indicators where broken. I tried to secure them the best I could until I could replace or replicate the clips properly. Turns out I took to long and one of my indicator lenses is now lying between home and work. Have just spoken to a wrecker and I would need to replace the whole headlight just to get these clips as they are plastic weilded (pages in wellington confirmed this also) however the headlights he offered were $500 a set!. Im thinking that I need to get replacement lenses ASAP and might as well get what I want so I will try and source some of the standard clear ones that most have recomended. I will then try very hard to design a permenant solution (hopfully without having to replace the headlights). Does any one having any of these standard clear lenses for a 4dr E36? Need them ASAP. Thanks all
ajsmith 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2006 Thoughts? ... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...on-67990131.htm are these deff legal for nz roads?
Yuen 16 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I think they should be legal, but that said I would not get them. I can't imagine that the beam pattern will be as good as the stock Bosch ellipsoids we have on our car. The guys in the US get shitty plastic ones and would kill for our Boschs. Same can be said for fitment; OEM is the best. Lastly, they just look ugly. Perhaps you could cable tie the corner indicator somehow? Or, DIY it and epoxy a piece of plastic in place of the broken clip on the headlight to replicate the original rail. I know what you mean, I've got a set of lights with the broken plastic rail as well. You definitely need to replace the whole headlight for that plastic rail. ajsmith 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Thanks dude. I picked up a pair of the factory "clear" lenses from Specialised out in Upper Hutt for $60. One side is completly stuffed so I had to, as you suggested use cable ties along with (cringe), contact adhesive!!! It looks alot better than I could of hoped for and from the outside you can't really tell anything is wrong. I've also attached a short peice of nylon to the lense from the inside and attatched this to the window wipper fluid container that way if my system fails I wont lose the lense! although it will look bloody tacky. Again its just a short term solution. Still need to work out what to do in the long term.
Yuen 16 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Contact adhesive? Do you mean you glued the corner to the headlight? Personally my clips on the corner have broken every time I get them out. And every single time, I epoxy it back. Bad design on the indicators, many people have a hard time unclipping it from the headlight, and once some sort of screwdriver goes in to try to free it, something usually breaks. For me it was the lousy plastic clip on my aftermarket ones. OEM should have better plastic that doesn't crack that easily. The rails are quite tough but if you put a screwdriver in there in an attempt to free it it will break.
