  3. haven't been back since 2012 - my old man has bought a new car in that time and yea, it was an Auto, never known him have one before
  4. I never had an Auto whilst driving (for 25+ years) in the UK, and remember being quite surprised by the lack of manuals - and indeed the desirability of what were, to my way of thinking, run of the mill manual cars - when I landed in NZ a few years back - heres an article I just found as reading this thread I wondered what the ratio Manual/Auto currently is in Blighty - apparently 75% of new vehicles are manual over there - http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/death-manual-gearbox - I imagine it to be higher in older vehicles
  5. thats why I put 'maybe....", still very very nice though
  6. copied some pics off the ad, so when listing expires thread still makes sense
  7. got a bit more info on it, maybe ... https://s14net.vbulletin.net/forum/s14/general-e30-m3-discussion/15212-original-right-hand-drive-e30m3-the-holy-grail

  9. just keep you eyes out for scappers pal, these were from a wrecking convertible, just kept looking until some came up - someone on bimmersport gave me a heads up, if you get off a specialist bmw/e30 guy they know they are quite rare and charge the earth, got these for $170 for the pair - worth a punt at that
  10. heres my starting point ...
  11. will do, I'll add to this thread as and when, let me know how u get on also
  12. doubt it, the comfort seat is essentailly one piece of material for the top and one for the bottom when it is taken off whereas the sport seats have 6 separeate panels, right side bolster, back, left side bolster and the same on the bottom so the material has to go round each piece seperately so more is needed than standard seats. I am attempting to do this very same job at the moment. I have stripped the material off a back seat for the centre bits and am using some leatherette for the bolsters pulled tight and secured with eyelets on the material and cable ties to the frame. Its costing me very little at the mo as it'll probably looks like a dogs dinner when done but they're so rough now (although mechanically sound) that theres no harm in trying, will let you know how I get on if ya like
  13. all fixed folks, if anyone has this rather unique issue in the future underneath the top part of the fuse box (ie where the fuses and relays sit) if you remove the screws and lift off theres a load of wires etc, there is a circuit board, a soldered track had burnt out, bridge with a bit of wire and hey presto all is well again
  14. Hi folks - anyone any good with electrics ? 1990 e30 318i. Problem, the headlights/main beam and rear fogs don't work - the side lights work fine, ie when the light switch is pulled out one notch, pulling the switch out to its second notch does nothing and at this switch position the rear fogs should work also but they don't. The electric window switches are not illuminated and do not work UNLESS I open the passenger door which makes the interior light come on at which point the window switches illuminate and the windows then work. Closing the passenger door switches off the interior light and the window switches and they then don't work again. Any pointers very gratefully received, looks like some feed has shot itself somewhere, all fuses look fine and I have had relay K3 and K4 checked and have changed them too (they did check ok at Jaycar)
  15. saw this earlier, shame about the squashed pictures though
  16. The mrs is an Essex girl, Southend originally, not one for white stilettos though ?, lovely motor ?
  17. I use a walkman for my tapes whilst donning a trendy shell suit ?
  18. Hi folks, put a few pics of my latest E30 up and have had more comments about the stereo in it than the car so figured I'd stick a post here. Probably no much use if you're after subwoofers and amps etc but for the likes of myself just powering 4 regular speakers and want a bluetooth phone/music option and a head unit that looks like it belongs rather than something that sticks out like a sore thumb i cant recommend highly enough, the amber backlight and similar lettering on the unit did it for me as it matches the E30 interior pretty well - only gripe I guess is that when using the front usb it always starts from track 1 rather than continuing from whatever was last played - I just use my phone so doesn't bother me and it sounds more than fine to me - got it from here but other places do them also - https://bavarian-retro-cars.myshopify.com/search?q=continental full range looks to be here http://www.continental-automotive.com/www/automotive_de_en/themes/commercial_vehicles/ch_interior_en/audio_products/radio_products/

no worries, there's units in repro etc that you're no doubt aware of - JVC for eg that have 240k + colours that can be configured to match with rca out but they don't look retro at all so went with this one

good spot was just trying out the usb option at that point with my trusty stick with the entire Rush discography on, in fairness the usb option is the one thing that lets the unit down as it starts from track 1 every time you switch it on, so just use bluetooth/phone
