At least with the model of 540i you got (pre m62tu), you don't have vanos issues or a water-cooled alternator to worry about. The earlier 540i's are definitely more peppy up top than the sep 98' onwards ones.

if the car's OBC hasn't had the fault codes cleared recently having loads & loads don't really indicate loads & loads of problems. Mine had heaps too. It's when you clear them, what comes back. That's a reoccurring problem that need to be addressed. Fingers crossed it's an easy sort for ya.

All this talk of E34 540IS's reminded me that I had one, so rolled it out of the shed for a wash and fitment of some genuine clear corner lenses I found. Looks rather blue in the low light. I should really drive it more often.

Or just take my offer for it. Cheaper in the long run.

Yeah, I know all that Martin, but if you worry about getting the power down with maximum exit corner speed in a family car, you'll have a much bigger problem than wheelspin. Vomit.

I think all that fiddling with your stick is starting to affect your eyesight, again you are incorrect. Cut from the BMW US web-site.. So infact the US version is an auto as standard, and not only that the cheeky buggers don't give a rebate if you select the manual like we do here in NZ - even more of a discouragement from buying a manual. Twisting the facts to say it's included. I have no problem with people having a preference for either one, manual or auto, and would normally keep out of the argument, but when things are put forward as facts to back their argument that are wrong I tend to bite. I can't even be bothered getting into the sports suspension argument been done too many times before. Love, peace and harmony

I'd seriously look at the Windows Phone OS, specifically the Nokia Lumia 520 & 625. The OS is a piece of piss to use, and runs smooth as silk on the "lower end " hardware. The Air NZ app is good, and unless you are a phone geek, or someone who likes to play the latest trendy games, you'll struggle to be left wanting with the app selection. There is a new OS update coming out shortly which adds more features and looks really good. Switching off screen autorotate is in the settings. Not sure what the file thing is. What brings you to the " Windows Phone is dead "conclusion? The upcoming Windows Phone update will let you make any messaging app the default ( notifications etc ) system message service, which is pretty cool. * I'm not a Windows fanboy, it just annoys me when people write it off as a solid OS. If you want an option out of left field, I'm currently using a Blackberry Z10 and with the latest OS update, it's a stunning piece of kit. Plus you can load android apps.

Hi all, yes it is a members car......mine. It is what I have said it is, a 1994 540iS, that has had the body shell replaced with a body from a 1994 540ia . A genuine NZ E34 540iS, not to be confused with an E34 M540i, was a 540ia, that the factory put a manual in, added a body kit, MSport suspension, Seats and Steering Wheel. Nothing too earth shattering...it is what it is. I am a little offended by some of the comments on here...It's not being dodgy, I have been totally upfront about the car. I purchased a 540iS that required body work that was un economical to repair - rather than stripping it for the gearbox as most would have done, being a BMW enthusiast, I chose to get the car back on the road rather than see it die. The method I chose was my own. It's all a matter of opinion in the end, but as I have commented on Trade Me.... People replace the bodies on classic cars all the time, for various reasons. You can buy a new manufactured, aftermarket MG B roadster body to restore your MGB. Using it does not make your car not genuine, the body is just a part of the entire machine. If you replace a part on your car does it make it not genuine?... At the end of the day, you are all entitled to your own opinions, and I expected every idiot to come out of the woodwork on Trade Me, but I do find the negativity here a little disappointing, considering it is coming from people who are supposedly enthusiastic about the marque. At the end of the day, you don't have to buy it, and you can always go and buy one of the other more genuine E34 540IS's that are for sale
