I'll second that. Despite some of the heaviest rain I've seen in at least a week it was fun, even though I was only watching. Saw some cool machinery (that Alpina is hawt!) put some faces to names and got drenched. Great day out, hopefully my junker will be ready for the next one

I drive a E34 540i 6sp, manual and sport suspension, which is factory issue, which some folk call an IS. It is in my view one of the best all round cars you can get. Good honest performance, reasonable economy, cruise all day, go for a quick sprint if required, its magnificent in red, reliable as the day is long. When I first got it I had a list as long as me arm as to the modifications I was going to do to it. A wise man from this site(true story) advised me to drive it for 6 months first, then make changes after that as and if required. Well mate I've had the car for 3 yrs now, and all I've done, is fuelled it and serviced it.. Now listen to grandpa when I tell ya, just drive the car, make sure ya got decent tyres, make sure she's serviced to schedule, keep ya money in ya pocket to spend on ya girl friend...

Sorry, didn't get to chat Steve but I couldn't help but notice your car. It sounds insane!!!

A few pics from today... What a great event!! Pity about the rain but it made the track time a bit more interesting (especially for the egg who span his 850 twice during the familiarisation laps then took it out with the race cars and promptly crashed... Waste of a decent 850, but at least there'll be a csi kit up for grabs when it gets written off and parted out!). There were twelve 8s but only 10 made the grid after one of the CSIs burst an AHK seal in the wet and the 850 hit the wall. Apologies... I missed most of the non-8 cars of which there were plenty!!

Did a WOF this morning, which passed (yay). Got the yearly one now. Weather was terrible today but never a bad time for some interior mods. Headed over to Martin's (BreakMyWindow) place later and replaced all the interior bulbs + trunk lights with white-blue LED's. Took some average photos (below), but the look is much better in person imo. Had some trouble with the bayonet bulbs (map lights) in the center console housing - seems there's something up with the connectors in mine.. corrosion etc. After lots of trying neither of us could get the LEDs working in those 2 connectors, despite the old bulbs working fine. Nevertheless, thanks for the effort Martin. I tested the LED bulbs so they were not faulty. The large center bulb worked however, so that's all good and well. Definitely feels a bit more modern inside the car now.. outside too with the puddle lights .

Swapped an auto box that only went forward for one that doesn't go at all. Well that was a full day wasted!

Back in my teenage to mid twenty years just about everyone I knew was into cars of one type or another. We all did our own repairs. Went on our own cruises. Went to every track day we could even the drag strip. Queen street on the weekend nights would be dead stopped both ways chock full of done up cars. It would take an hour to get to the bottom. Everyone behaved pretty well too. Even the car events like the 4 & Rotors would back SH1 up from Meremere Drag strip to the Bombays and take hours to get there. Now days. It is dead. Event car parks are only half full. Queen Street only sees a handful of cars. Numbers look like they have dropped right off everywhere. I see a fraction of done up cars that I once saw when driving around.

Waved good bye to an old friend :'( she started as an ugly ducking and turned into the beauty she is today. Luckily I sold her to my workmate so will still see her around lots.
