Hi there, Does anyone know of a damaged e46 M3 with good running gear that might be for sale? I need engine, 6-speed gearbox, driveshaft, engine bay parts and front loom, so I figure that a complete car will be a more economical way to go. I have an otherwise complete e46 M3 that was a factory 6-speed manual that I need to put these bits into in order to make it a runner. It looks like the cheapest option is to bring in a lightly damaged car from Japan, (possibly LHD?) but before I go down that path I thought i'd see if there was anything available in NZ. Would prefer manual to SMG in order to minimise further cost / complexities. Many thanks Paul

Just flicking through Facebook while having a coffee and saw a couple of For Sales come up. One was for a 2000/1 E46 325Ci with a manual 'box. Business Edition, leather seats, multi-CD changer and added BMW Bluetooth and USB functions, and all the rest. One was for a 2001 320i saloon with a Tiptronic box, cloth interior and M3 badges. The difference? One was £750, one was $6500. Guess which was which?

Here's a couple of photos of my dads e36 m3 too. Pretty darn clean

Much better. You should have some fun and rip up those rears before you replace them with the right size. A tuned 335i should have no trouble destroying them... Since you mod your car a fair bit I think following M3 tyre specs would be good.

OK... May have found a cheaper way to do a 5-stud conversion. Of course, there have been lots of those! E36 front hubs, Z4 rear hubs. Retain other E30 parts. Bit more to it than that of course, but that's the gist. Keeps stock geometry, too.

The E9x 4 cylinder engine has a horrible reputation for reliability, not to mention it's the most boring model to get... The straight 6s are great. Maintenance still isn't cheap and repairs will be pricey, but they can be very reliable if you do your homework and take care of them. If you go for the 335s, the turbos again come with a new set of issues and they are expensive to look after. Mine has given me some hassle, I do properly thrash it though The straight 6 engines without turbos are a nice sweet spot of performance and reliability.

nothing wrong with going for 18x8 and 18x9 with relatively normal offsets. and also would be fine to run 225/235-40-18 front 255/265-35-18 rear on a 335i.

Never been a fan of the GTR, but a very different sort of car. The RS6, ignoring all the power and speed, is the most practical car I've ever owned too. It just does everything so well, the interior is very simple and everything is very intuitive. Perfect for the kids.

make sure you check your site coverage on your land too. out here in the Hutt i believe it is 30 or 35%, WCC might allow something else. just because there was a carport there before doesn't mean you can put a garage there, as a carport is not enclosed and therefore not counted in the site coverage. Also, echoing the posts above about the tilt door (mine is tilt, i know where i can park now but would be good to park up harder into the garage. And also make sure the top of the door is 2m + so you can get an SUV or Van in there later down the track. And plenty of power outlets, and i also have spots above the engine bay of the car, backwards opening bonnets on E30 E34 etc block out a lot of light. Hope this helps.
