i have a BMW m50b20 that is cutting out at about 1900 RPM and then after dropping to about 1500RPM it cuts back on again. It is not intermittent and does it all the time , both hot or cold. Anyone got any clues to help.

Thank you for asking. It started to make a noise , it got worse , really bad then it got so bad and the battery light came on. and when I lifted the bonnet I could see smoke coming from it. It failed 2 years ago due to the oil filter seal leaking and ( as I was told the dripping oil caused it to fail) and it appears that it has not been repaired properly and its failed again. I had the oil leak fixed as they told me if I didnt the job would not be warranted. I would have just taken the car in, but with the battery light on and the noise was so bad I didnt want to break down trying to get there.

Asked this question in maintenance section and got nothing. I suppose I should have raised the question here. Alternator replacement Can anyone steer me to a thread with photos of this job please?? or preferably a video??

I have tried the recommended test that Gaz advised and there was some oil smoke not a lot like big clouds of it. It was sort of more black smoke like unburned fuel. Is it a hard job to replace the CVV and its hoses? I will do this and sell it.

Wow not a lot of positive there. Is the 6 cylinder faultless? Such a shame it's a very tidy car. What is the recommended model then. I just want something that will keep going for a while. I'm not hard on cars. I feel I know how to look after them.

OK thank you will try this and see what happens. Can you give me an idea of valve stem seal replacement cost?
-
Thank you for that advice. Can I assume that if I was to replace the faulty seals the new one's would be "not faulty"? I hear your advice. I kind of like this car, it is in good condition and all I need now. What is the "cvv" and what has happened to it?

Hello. Yes it is a 4 cylinder. The smoke is blue. My informer says. It is when it's running cold or hot. The car is not down on power (noticeably) and it doesn't have that smell that comes from a worn out engine.

Can anyone give me a lead as to why my E90 2007 100000kms is smoking at idle. Not while running on the open road. All the check systems show OK. It's not using a lot of oil and it's not noisy.

Is there any way I can wire up the trailer plug without the module, or having to take it into the stealer who wants about $700 to fit it to my car, Is it possible to do it myself. I have pretty good wiring knowledge

I had a car get caught up in a flash flood in a street the water just got over the foot well but it was deep in the floor, I worked straight away with towels till the main volume was gone and just the mats were wet then I got the house dehumidifier set it up on the back seat and carefully closed the door till the power lead was not jammed in and left it for 4 days emptying the fluid container as required and it did the job well, I was pleasantly surprised. -
Thanks for that. Be good to hear from someone who has fitted one to an E90 or can say for sure I'm ok in doing this

Sorry forgot the obvious its an e90

Im a little worried about the connection of a reversing camera fitting, i have an after market sat nav and wish to fit a reversing camera to it. The video lead is straight forward but the power for the camera and the switching hook up will need to be wired into the reversing light. the camera salesman said he hadn't had problems with the cars setting off fault codes but I wanted to check here first.

has anyone fitted these? and are they worth the $55 http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.asp?id=1079862723&member_hash=

What spare wheels do you use for your e90? or alternatives?

I haven't had a flat in some 15 years, I know Im lucky but now have an e90 which had the noisemakers disguised as tyres and have replaced them with real tyres, Toyo brand so not the cheapest but not the dearest and have decided that the round town is not a problem for me ( get the guy who sold me the tyres to come and fix a puncture which he's happy to do) but on the open road running I'm not stretching my luck. My son had a hole about the size of 50 cents punched in one of his tyres on of all the places the desert road at about 10 30 pm not too many people keen to help at that time and the ones that do come leave your wallet some $ 650 less taking after hours and trucking the vehicle back to a garage to get a new tyre put on so Im getting one of the E90 space saver tyres and kit with tools and cover from the dealer for $520 I figure it's a better option to sitting in your car waiting for someone to come and help and the tyre pando won't plug the hole. Dont think I would like to take the run flats too far in that condition either. So for me a better option.
