  1. Has anyone got a nz freq radio oem to fit into a e36 I think 1997 or 8? Ask me if I have not given enough details. its the old story of Jap import.
  2. Can any one direct me to the e39 540 1998 fuel pump relay? is it in the boot? if so what colour is it and where is it placed. Just been reading about Dave's ecu remap that sure is a cheap way of getting power. Should get the wife's e46 in. She might not notice and I could have a lot more fun

    e36 TPS Question

Just a further question are you lifting the boost? I understand that if it stays under 8 pounds you don't need to intercool it. but if you are around the 10 to 12 you do, but is that about as far as you should go to keep the reliability and not have too much of a monster on your hands. could you post up some pictures of the fitting that you have or are going to do? Pleeeeease. Ken

    e36 TPS Question

Can you keep us posted on this I'm very interested in your project and I'm sure It would be very general to most supercharging problems. Was the S/C a toyota sc 12 or 14?
  6. Does anyone know if there is a genuine e46 tow bar? if so what does it look like? and what would it cost? and is there a loom to go with it,I have been told that it has to be wired in up to the front so as to not interfere with the ECU. I can guess that it would be expensive but I was interested to just see.

    e39 540 cuts out

Yes it was a dealer he took it to but he says that they are not the same as over here their standards are not as high and he does not trust them to much. Also he says that if you break down away from the city you are pretty much on your own.he has a 30min drive to his work place and although it has not cut out since the last time over 2weeks ago he's not too trusting of the car at the moment. Should these cars on the whole be reliable? its done about 116000kms. the heat over there is pretty hard on all cars and the A/C is full on all the time

    e39 540 cuts out

Thanks Glenn I like your humor but if this forum is any indication of your work I'd say your far too busy to take time off and go fix one car otherwise the invitation is very tempting. Would you suggest changing the crank sensor just the same to eliminate that or is that just going to be a waist of time?

    e39 540 cuts out

This was taken into a service agent in town and the fault codes supposedly read they showed nothing wrong, so the car was road tested for about 50 to 60 km's and it did not show the fault again. My questions are if it was a crank sensor as Glenn thought, could this be a intermittent problem? which would not show up on a code read? Could the sensor be replaced easily eg remove one bold and unplug? or is it difficult to get to? and how much would a new one cost here ( I could send it to him) he says that everything there is very expensive.
  10. Hi there Jochen you are a great help with these matters. Can I say for an old guy like me (65) I struggle with a lot of new terminology and changes to electrical things and even though you may think I'm a dumb ass I do try to keep up and follow your advice (one of the reasons for being here), I try not to go to far from the straight and narrow and your help is much appreciated. Having said that after you told me to go to the dealer for a loom to change the two head units over as shown by your link to an ebay loom I asked the local dealer to find one of these looms and they came back with can not find one and after I showed them the link you gave me they have said that it must have been an aftermarket thing. Not being one to try to cause trouble I wonder if you could enlighten me further about this or better still could you give me a BMW part no.?Thank you again.Ken
  11. That sounds great can you give me the site with that info on please?
  12. My sons 1998 e39 540 has this problem He has asked me if I can help so I'm posting this to see if there is someone who might know. the car is in Ahbu Dahbe so I can't take it into some like Glenn to get it analyzed. So some educated guess would be nice. he says that the car shuts down after driving about half an hour, straight away you can turn the key again and it will turn over but not fire.Give it a few minutes try again and it starts and will run fine for five or six minutes then turn off again. and that will repeat if you go through the same process. leave it to cool down and it will run for half an hour again and repeat the same process. This may be a red herring but the starter motor has become labored and the A/C is not working. those are the symptoms he has given. Can anyone help here?
  13. Thank you for the reply I have had a look at the newer radio and it has the round pins also but it has two square boxes underneath the round pins where as mine only has one square box underneath. the new one also only has one plug socket for the Aeriel I presume where mine has the two as you can see in the picture. are we still looking at an adapter from BMW or am i truly stuffed? also the question of 2000 model being able to locate other frequency's I thought only started in sept 2000 were mine seems to be early 2000. does the numbers on the radio give any indication of this or not?
  14. I have not done my homework properly and purchased a head unit to change the japan radio to a NZ one. I was assured that the brought one was a NZ one. Also it was a model after 2000. my car is a 2000 so I though that I would have a take out old and fit new to remedy the problem with the frequencies. but no that is not the case plugs are differant. Can anyone help with what I can do now. Here are the photos of the plugs on my car and the radio taken out and the one to fit. The radio in the last photos was the intended new one.
  15. Brent is this the flat pin radio or the round pin? As per Jochen's article in Jochen's further on in this thread?
  16. Ok Jochen I have some more infor if this will help the chassis no. is bu88618 I have a photo but I don't know how to upload it. The tape panel looking from the left has two buttons Bass and Treble one above the other. moving right one button beside the tape entrance then two buttons side by side then a fader and balance one above the other.Moving down on the left a knob and above that what looks like a three way button assy. then six buttons in a row then one button above the other on the right side, audio and a BC. Would the radio that Brent put up be suitable? and can you give me some instructions as to the removal and fitting and any traps to watch out for thanks Ken.
  17. Sorry I didn't put the year but it is 1997 I will get the chassis no form him and put that up here for coment not sure about a photo but will ask him, thank you,

    color code

    Where would i find the color code for a BMWe46 2000 ?
  20. Could someone give me some advise please my son has brought a BMW 540. He is working in Abu Dahbi and the car needs a band expander or another head unit I think which would you recommend. does someone here have a head unit for sale. Don't know how long he will be working there but maybe a couple of years if that helps with the info required to fix this problem Also which is the best repair manual to get for it? or are there C/D's now that are more detailed ?
  21. Yes Glenn that is a question that I ask other people when they do some changes to there cars but in short I replaced the throttle body heater hose when mine ruptured and I had a hose that was only good enough to go to the heater outlet and the return pipe At the time I didn't have one small enough for the throttle body outlet and I have just left it there. But while working on the TPS I found it got in the way of the TPS plug and again I have two spare rubber caps that will fit the end and then posed the question here. I would certainly not put myself in a position to be a know it all when it comes to the engineering of my favorite marque.
  22. I ran a hose from the plastic return pipe on the side of the motor to the heater outlet on the back of the motor some time back to bypass the throttle body heater, then on the weekend I was fixing the TPS under the throttle body which has made a wonderful difference to the idle running of the motor after the adjustment was reset,( why do people adjust the idle stop screw and not fix the problem) anyway back to the question If I was to put a cap over the two connections where the hose goes now eliminating the need for the hose bypass would this cause any damage to the motor as far as cooling goes? it would get rid of another hose that is in the way of the TPS plug and make things easer in there for me
  23. Well it's completed, the job went well just as Glenn said it would. I watched the wife take it off and guided her all the way and was very careful to make sure she didn't hurt me in any way. and she also didn't hurt herself at all. Now we have a new gear cover and it looks really nice thanks to all for the help and advice this is a good forum don't you think?
  24. You guys have just about put me off doing it I'll get my wife to take it off then see how she gets on. thanks again guys its nice to have a laugh now and again don't you think?
