There is no doubt you could fit the wide bonnet and kidneys on all the cars, but it was (as far as I know) only the v8's that had them from the factory. It was certainly that way for the e32's....not to say your arent right of course Darryl

Now thats what you'd think, but there isnt a single Arsenal Football shirt on trademe thats genuine but they dont get pulled. Some of them are just the skankiest copies youve ever seen in your life and they still dont get pulled.Ive complained about one or two of them who have claimed for them to be genuine when they clearly arent (bits missing etc) and nothing has been done about the auction at all. But then that agrees with your earlier point that some poor sap goes through them all and they are bound to not be bothered by a certain amount.

Its been known to happen !

Id say the bonnet has been replaced at some point. Only the v8's had the wide 'flaring' but the grill is still the thin version indicating a straight 6. Having said that it could be the bonnet is genuine and the grill and headlight surrounds have been replaced !

I judge a car on its condition and not where its come from. Obviously its sometimes difficult with imports but how long the previous owner has had and treated the car is more important to me than where its from. What Ive found when buying the touring is that there are an awful lot of people in NZ who keep no record of what theyve done to a car at all. One bloke I spoke to put the car into the garage to be serviced and just threw the documents away each time because 'he felt' they didnt say anything was wrong so why keep them. Keeping a service history is NZ doesnt seem to be anywhere near as important as the UK, in my experience.

It means 'Not Work Safe' and is generally used to show people that they may not want to open this thread at work if their worksplace has policies against p0rn and such like that could see them sacked. Its just a warning to be careful thats all. I also wouldnt want to open certain stuff whilst my kids are about.

Ahhh but this one I like. If there is more than one item ending at the same time if you play the game right you end up spreading everyones interest and you get the item for a much lower price than if you were all bidding on the same one.As for pickups, if its a small item then I will only meet people in town I dont want them at my house either. Ive only once let someone come to my place and that was for a tv which I wasnt bloody carrying everywhere !

I can Cain, but we have a three week old baby at home with two other kids and a very tired wife, so after taking the day to see it in the first place, Im not about to take another day to drive it back ! When you factor in the $50 cab from my house to the airport and $40 in petrol its all of a sudden not so expensive

Or trip computer....yes its cheap but its not certainly not pretty, lots of dings and scratches to the bodywork and interior trim, screws in the center console etc. I dont think Ive seen a BMW with such a low spec, it had absolutely nothing in it.

Hi Richard, I hear you went to the green one in Seaview last week too. I dont know what you thought but it smelt like they'd butchered a dog in the back ! Thanks for the tip about Catherine I shall call in sometime during the week.

Cheers, fellas I shall give them all a ring.

Whats worse is people selling for more than the items are in the shops !!!!Having said that, its buyer beware, if you dont know the true value then more fool you.

A friendly chat with our new sponsor might be in order

Hmmmm Im pretty sure that it was standard but then it may have only been from the facelift onwards. Ive just found on the web that it was an option in 99 so you may well be right mate.Ill stick the m-pars on and see how it is before I start playing with ride height, but I will definately consider it. Getting all the goodies going first is going to be the priority and although I want it to look good first and foremost its going to be the family wagon Have you lowered yours ?

Im thinking about ways to get the touring down from New Plymouth to Wellington, has anyone used a transporter to move cars around the country ? If so who was it, how much did it cost, and was the car fine when you got it ?
-
I thought all tourings had the self levelling suspension. Only way to find out is to fill the boot with the ignition off and turn it on, you should see it rise slowly and level off. Andrew, do you want to stick this thread into Rides instead of here and Ill start a fresh one in Projects when Ive got the car and some proper photos.

When I bought the 7 I was told they were e38 wheels. When I had them off a couple of months ago I saw hubcentric rings on them. I looked again today to see they are in fact 8 and 9' so must be e39 wheels so they will fit straight on I hadnt noticed the rings before and Ive had two sets of tyres and theyve not been mentioned. Never had any trouble with them on the 7 either. Will keep the current ones on as they have virtually new Potenzas all around and at 17' are likely to be a failrly decent ride. Specs off the top of my head....tv, dvd nav, heated seats, folding mirrors, 8 airbags, sunroof, 'standard' seats - unfortunately, headlight washers, 17' m-sport alloys (replicas by the looks of them but they have the hole for the m-badge which I thought was the giveaway for replicas) and been serviced every 10k. Mint inside, a small scratch on the rear passengers door but thats all. Basically couldnt fault it apart from needing new discs and a couple of clips for the trim. Looking forward to collecting it next weekend :-) I had thought about a warranty but I have no idea about how to go about it....any suggestions ? Ive had plenty of watchers on the 740, havent really been trying to sell it until now to be honest. A couple of offers of 8 grand but Ill have to get myself organised now and get rid of it. Im not going to give it away and I dont need to sell it straight away but at the same time I dont want to take much longer if I can help it.

See the projects forum, Im planning to do a writeup on everything I do to it, so lets see how that goes.

So Ive finally found a family wagon to replace the 740. I plan to be doing quite a few things to it over time so here are some initial photos of how it all started. Intended mods are to get the sat nav going, an ipod hooked up, a ps2 possibly to handle games and as a dvd player, possibly a screen in the rear, reversing camera, my m-parallels will go on, angel eye upgrades to the front, clear sides, all red rears, facelift grills perhaps and whatever else I can think of. Im thinking of swapping the comfort seats from my e38 in too, but as these are heated it might not be as easy as Id hoped. Anyway first I have to get the car next week from New Plymouth back to Wellington and then start saving and prioritising the job list

I think thats a tech 2 mate, not 1 -
Its a Japan import with tv and DVD sat nav. The tv gets a cracking picture considering its in a car and the dvd is different to the last one I spoke to you about. The radio only gets the Jap frequencies and I dont know if its an easy reprogram for one of this age or if I need a new tuner. Dont have the car yet, and wont be doing all the changes straight away but Id love to get your DIY instructions and your advice as to what I need to be replacing off you before you go. In no particular order Id like to do the following.... Get radio sorted, fix sat nav, reverse camera, ipod connection, ps2 (to handle dvds and games - although Ive never owned a ps2 so have no games !), possibly another screen in the rear, swtich to 16:9 possible more but Im in our hands as to whats possible. There is no phone unfortunately, is that a big deal to integrate ? I can get a BT kit from the UK for peanuts and its hard to wire that up to the stereo to mute it and the speaker is actually quite good under the steering wheel, but Id like to integrate as much as possible, obviously BT would be my preferred choice, but funds are low at the moment ! Cheers Martyn
