  1. Commonly known as flasher unit (& as I refer it to) rather than relay. That unit wont be affected by headlight operation to cause the stated problem
  2. If infact a "tourist delivery" car -it could have been specced as per what was ordered. Our E12 was a tourist delivery car straight from the factory & specced to the previous (first) owners requirements.
  3. Yep, good work Nick. Im of the same opinion as mentioned - chrome grille over black. Great mod on the torch. You'll like the dash rings - I did the same on the E39. Re bulbs - Some of those bulbs you can replace the bulb itself, most now come as a complete unit & there are untold variations on them
  4. Well done - looking good!
  5. I take it the M3? Possibly a coil breaking down?
  6. Me too! Penny's just dropped Oh & on topic - nice cars Ray!
  7. Yea David-oops Silver fox What the hell is going on here? I find this unbelievable
  8. YUK!! ... A boat anchor in a Beemer! As Graham said, I too would just have a factory V8 thanks Each to their own though - whatever floats your boat
  9. Contradiction here - bad earth/ relays - two different circuits Indicators dont use a relay Probably dip switch fault - been there - done that!
  10. Suspected that - couldn't see any insulators in the pics. However no good the way you have fixed it - both studs should have fibre (not rubber or plastic) insulators under the nut to insulate studs from housing. The nut needs to then be properly tightened up against the insulator (particually the battery stud) otherwise you risk creating a bad connection inside the alt & will cause heat & failure
  11. Orange/brown wire - will be brown which is earth. Looks like it is connected directly to alternator housing as it should be - is it infact (not insulated)? Other two wires you have correct. Do the alternator mounts have rubber inserts in them - if they do this insulates the alternator housing from earth - hense the earth wire. Possibilities for sparks when touching brown to earth: -- Faulty alternator - did you connect these wires in reverse at all? -- Cant see in pics - are there insulators under B+ & D+ studs to insulate from housing? -- You didn't try connecting the earth while the engine was running? -- No alternator light - if no earth circuit for alternator - light won't go. With ign on touch the blue wire to earth - light should go - if it does you could have one of the above faults in alternator circuit
  12. You can cut the parcel tray to suit 6x9 but DONT cut any rear shelf structure underneath or you will void getting a WOF as this is deemed structural integrety of the vehicle - even enlarging existing hole is not allowed. For 6x9 to fit you will need to fit spacers & IMO this comprimises sound quality. Havent fitted them but 6 1/2 I would say would fit existing aperture, others may confirm this.
  13. OK - make sense. Will make pressure go up but shouldn't affect as demand will be there for it. Nope - 32 -33 is spec - for M20 engine anyway. I would assume M10/M40 to be similar Will go to 40+ with vacuum line off the regulator
  14. Cant exactly follow what you mean but ultimately you should have the large red "battery" wire connected to B+ & the small blue "charge light" wire connected to D+. There should only be these two wires in the loom for the alternator. It may (not sure) have a large brown wire, if it does - this is earth & connects from alt housing to earth. If it does & you had these two connected in reverse you would have big sparks when connecting the battery
  15. Not quite with you - they see positive pressure anyway & control it to 32/33 psi
  16. Wont be a fuse, probably lasy viscous fan as Eddy said
  17. Faulty dip switch - replace it to fix
  18. Or - voltage drop in energiser circuit, or faulty starter

    E30 alarm

Wont be original - they weren't fitted Maybe a door, boot or bonnet switch faulty/bent Is the interior light tuning on/off with all doors correctly?
  20. Still a little vague on description - is there a click as you try to start or silence? Probably best you visit an Auto Sparky - should be a quick diagnosis.
  21. Nathan, May need to check but if you take out the rear seat then you shouldn't need rear belts. There are a few 4 door E30s in the series which obviously wont have rear seats/belts. The harness normally attach to the cage Yes 325 brakes fit with 14"alloys Remove carpet - not necessarily, I know of at least one series car still with carpet in

    E36 328i battery

Glenn's $250 is on the money (no pun intended) for a DIN65/66. Calcium are best Cheap not always best with batteries - need to compare apples with apples DIN batteries are all vented
  23. From pics - rotor looks very suspect, coil tower not good. Although worn - I doubt the cap is causing the problem. Scrape the scale off the cap electodes, check for tracking in cap. If badly worn - replace Coil - Same between pre & F/L - so replace coil & clean/replace HT lead terminal as required Rotor - different pre to F/L Replace it
