  1. fuel injection computer is playing silly buggers. scoped the inj banks and they stop firing randomly. had to drill out rivets to get inside the thing, pressing gently on PCB will make it misfire (no inj pulse), the foam inside the case has bent the PCB i think thats the problem, but dry solder joints dont help I hope not all BMW's computer are this bad.

anyone had to fix one of these before? mostly discrete components just hoping someone had been here before, or should i just throw it away?

I could put my Megasquirt II on it. anyone installed a MS on an old BMW here? was there much trickiness involved?

I have a 323i ECU if you require

  2. TV cutout is either speed related, park brake related, or both. Or can be on all the time.

Try as Huttey says or as said already -contact Jochen - he has a programme on laptop to "talk" to the car through the IBus control & programme the system for TV in motion.

Dont let the boys in blue or WOF guys see that though!

  3. hey guys, i just want to know if 100w light bulb would be ok in my 1990 e34??

Not really recommended, you can get Hella Cool blue or Ultra which are still 55w & are 30 -50% brighter than standard halogen & dont create excessive load upset the diagnostics

  4. gee...howd you get 3 in the first place?

I doubt TM would have but give it a go or consider replica services? but it will be costly~

Damaged car, front right was smashed - pity to waste 3 of them. Have checked Schnitzer sites on the net with no luck for 15".

Mike, Good thought -havent checked Oseas forums yet

  5. To clarify regulations:

If ANY lights are fitted they DO have to work & comply. This is dependent on WOF testers diligence with inspection as to whether non going will be noted.

If switch is faulty then it is service by replacement, probably have to get genuine new as you will be unlikely to obtain a S/H one - are generally considered as part of the box.

  6. From your initial description - firing while on full thottle -sounds like it is simply flooded. Can do this if cranking to slowly where it is still fueling the engine without burning it.

With good battery power try holding "full throttle" while cranking, holdind down until it clears & runs before easing off.

If no go after 45 - 60 seconds of continuous cranking, remove all plugs & dry them, pull the coil HT lead from the distributor & earth out.

Then with full throttle crank the engine for 10 -15 seconds to clear, refit plugs (& lead) & it should go.

    Good luck

  7. As Jochen says - no comparison between the fully intergrated factory system & an on dash add on, the only benefit of the latter being that it is transferable between vehicles. The factory system blows the navman etc units to the weeds.

Again, as we have both proven - it is cost efficient to convert a vehicle with existing system but not so to install from scratch - hense buy car with existing.

  8. Yes I agree, band expanders ARE crap! What a waste of time and money. I had to saw a bit off the band expander to connect the euro adapter, cause it was a plug and wound'nt fit over top. Anyway, I taped it up, still no reception and the friggin thing wouldnt even sit back in the hole properly cause the thing was too big.

Time for a new stereo I think, anyone got any recommendations? I need one with no CD in the front as I already have a factory changer in the boot.

PM Jochen - He may be able to help with tuner

  9. instrument cluster seems ok...have tried two and both seem fine

yes it was me..did i look retarded? trying to find someone who has the video so i can laugh at myself

bulb removal will probably be the way forward...it just doesnt light up when i turn the key though!

Gus, The wiring is a loop from the dash through both sensors back to the dash. Wont be a short to earth but an open circuit. Have had wires break in the plugs in the car side of the loom where the sensor plugs to. Easiest if cant be confirmed is to bridge each sensor wires - under the bonnet & under the back seat or just join the blue/white & blue/green wires out of the instrument cluster - bypassing the circuit.

  10. Unless you are somewhat familiar with wiring set up then you may be chasing your tail to identify & fix. Sounds quite probably like an alarm module fault but a bad earth or similar to it may cause iregularities in operation also. Wiring to indicators will probably be at the base of the steering column.

  11. Agreed with Bravo. I always try to be economical with freight costs when sending & several times have been burnt, but also have won on some occasions. Very hard to guage sometimes (particually interisland or bulky item). Unless I can put in a courier bag I dont normally state shipping cost now because of unknown factors (distance, rural delivery etc) - until I am asked. I can then work out the most economical approach once I have details.

I too have had issues when buying - knowing what I can send something for in comparison

  12. hi , i have found that one of my sets of ccfl angel eyes are flickering, i have checked the wireing thats all fine and the bulbs are fine. i tryed the flickering angel eyes with the inverter of the lights that was working. and they worked fine. so it seems that i have a faulty inverter. anyone no if i can get a replacement inverter? or how to fix one?

I had to replace an inverter recently - same problem - & then the same ring also died. Got replacements from the manufacturers in Taiwan. Had originally got the set from the states on Ebay but had the manufacturers on the box.

If you post a pic of your inverter & I will see if it is the same as mine
