E46 Retrofit multifunction steering wheel. (lots of pics)
hotwire replied to JaseNZ's topic in Electrical system
Good on you Jason & great write up. Well done! You be up for nav retrofit next -
Hi Ian, welcome Kenwood nav unit? Not factory fit unit? Factory fitted Jap nav unit is Alpine. This can be converted - I have done heaps Can do Jap phone to Euro Bluetooth conversion - I have done one - at a cost though:- Ipod - a couple of options PM me for rundown
-
I guess nothings impossible but it will certanly not be straight forward & hardly feasible - they are two totally different cars with totally different front profiles. If you want that look - i suggest you go back a model & get an E12
-
Got all four original keys too:- Now thats rather a rarity with a car from Japan. I thought ours was the only one that did. As above - lose the M5 badge & it's a nice car
-
Yep, BUT you need nav - it's a modified nav splash screen And yes - you can fit nav to your car
-
1 definitely
-
Ashkan - would say you're prolly a little optomistic to get S/H - these tyres normally get raced till they are f**ked Nationwide Wholesalers in Hamilton supply them Edit -sp

Thanks for replies, went via Nathan's link where it said to open a new linear link & close the one I was in. Now back to normal Funny how now - I remember that thread & the frustration others were having - hadn't affected me till now
-
Excuse my ignorance Nathan , can you expand? Me not very literate with this Looked in help & followed what I thought to delete cookies - but no fix
-
Funny how the obvious things get forgotton/ignored. At least an easy fix
-
May be me being dumb but from last night threads went into tree a format. I can't open the options menu at the top corner of the thread to change back to standard format Ideas please:-
-
Battery may be good but - dirty connection inside terminal?? - Have you tried starting on jumper leads? If this was the problem - jump starting would bypass that problem. Could be as Nathan said but I would doubt the ign switch to all of a sudden fail - never to go again. My hunch is a connection issue somewhere in the main supply/earth. Using a test light or voltmeter to confirm where voltage is or isn't is the easiest approach

Two responses to the top statement - so true Why the hell do we have any laws/ rules if not to create a benchmark?

Jap cars still do come with leather, maybe not as many. They certainly do offer multi funtion wheel too - can't say I have noticed numbers specifically with E46 but certainly have seen Jap ones with it. I am on the fence with import/NZ new. Yes, I have a Jap E39, I bought in myself with a documented (& genuine) 24k, service history matching, got all manuals, all four keys & a car without a single stone chip. A high specced car too. I have no problem with a Jap car as long as I can be happy with it's history. Being in the trade, have seen some horrors over the years with ex Jap cars & plenty of people been burnt with dishonest & Tokyo traffic, non serviced cars. Yes, there may "generally" be more transparency with NZ cars but equally there are plenty of kiwis who don't look after/service their car properly either. Bottom line - a car with specs to suit (Jap BMW's are generally higher specced - never seen a NZ E46 with TV/Nav or from memory - heated seats) BUT also as above - regardless of origin, have it checked by a BMW specialist. With BMW - The origin normally reflects the buy & sell price - a Jap car cheaper than NZ version to buy initially & possibly/probably conceeding on sale price at other end. With a good one though - you can end up with more bang for buck.

Could think of several members on here that could find that useful

I have done zillions (not quite) over the years. Brushes are cheap - about $6 -10 or so a set & while apart about 5-10 mins to fit. It depends entirely on the problem with the unit - straight forward worn brushes, noisy bearings or an electrical problem - regulator/rectifier/rotor/stator - all of which require testing accordingly.
-
Regards Q 2) Does your bonnet open to near verticle? No simple adjustment to my knowledge - the hinge stay arm dictates the opening while the gas strut holds (sometimes)
-
Guys - watch out for Glenn!!! Sorry to go OT
-
Switch, stalk - same thing - likely yes
-
Regulators are solid state - either work or not & can last 5 mins or forever. No reason to replace them as of routine - they are not consumable as are brushes/bearings

Not too many E12's floating around now. Kerry on here (Mosens in Hamilton) said he had an E12, check with him
