    Mixing diffs

Let us know what you find Will, I don't think it will be the subframe though, its the same part no. between all models that we got.

But my car had discs with a small case diff? Was completly stock when I got it so I doubt someone has been changing stuff on it. Is it going to matter that much? I guess maybe a bit more where on cvs but mine have been fine even with lowered car.
  3. tyres are oversized, most people run 215/40R17. You'll probably run into problems with them rubbing unless you do some guard work, even then you'll have to get the offsets right. I'll assume that they are 17x8 with that size tire, if so a ET20 offset would be about right. So you'd want a 15mm spacer. I don't know about 4 to 5 lug spacers so can't really comment, except I think you'll be lucky to find them under 15mm thick.

Ah thanks, I've got a med case diff in a small case frame, guess I'll have to check and see how the angles are. What part is different between the subframes then? Trailing arms and subframe all have same part no between models.

Will, can you explain further on these alignment problems? Small and med case diffs for e30's are directly interchangeable. Sorry for hijack sam -agreed with will on that being small case, just compared it to my spare
  6. Looks pretty sus man, but good luck to you. Has anyone tried this product here? http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=...;products_id=30 I was thinking about the cross-drilled brake lines too if I got a heap more power?
  7. I agree with you guys but i guess they had to, they couldn't get any more displacement or power out of the current engine. Why develop a whole new engine for one car when they could just chop 2 cyls off the existing V10.
  8. Depends what your looking for in a tyre, I really liked the yoko C-drives, plenty of grip, good wear and a really nice tyre to drive on. Only downside is they are too soft for any track work. I paid $130 fitted and balanced each for mine but they normally retail for a bit more than that. I'd get them again if i still ran that size. (195/60/14). Also- is your car lowered? They are asymetrical so can't be rotated if your rear camber is bad.
  9. From cometic... I haven't heard much about this issue, just curious as to your thoughts?
  10. I'd get longer studs instead, so much less hassel than having to line up hub, spacers, and wheel. Several places in the states sell them, or find suitable studs from another car and adapt those.
  11. depends on what finish you want. I had to get my curbing welded, then lathed and then polished. If your just painting then a bit of nu-tech and you should be right, shouldn't affect the balance much at all.
  12. Any reason you want the med case, a small case will be fine with a 2.5 I'd go 3.91 as well, my mate had one in his 320i and it was good. Chris (nz320i) has one as well, ask him about it. I think factory auto 320 diff was more like a 4,45
  13. Josh, are you using a metal gasket and o-rings? I thought metal gaskets didn't like o-rings too much? enlighten me please?
  14. I was thinking you could put in non vanos cams in there instead, or something along those lines. But from the sounds of it he'll be able to use the vanos anyway. I'd always thought all vanos was stepless, learn something everyday.
  15. guys in the states love the HX35 Holsets, or the HY35 have smaller exhaust housings if you want quicker spool, both T3 flanges. Last i remember Glenn had one for sale actually. I'm pretty sure LEM wont do vanos but the Link+ might. Is vanos really a big deal anyway? could you lock it out if you decieded it wasn't worth much hp or tq?
  16. hah, read the rest of the article, BMW could have chipped it themselves. I was reading in a car mag once they were given a fitter than normal falcon to test. A friend of the testers had the same car so they swapped the ecu, sure enough they car was faster so they left the chips swapped. Never heard a word about it from ford.
  17. I think you will need a shorter driveshaft. We did the exact same conversion between a 86 320i and an 87 325i. Unless the your 320i already has the getrag 260 box, that is. We had the driveshaft modified and refurbed at the same time to fit, may still have it lying around as car was parted out, will check tomoro.
  18. digital displays, tell things like diff oil temp, engine oil temp etc
  19. yip, just a rebadged CLS too me. having said that, CLS are f**king cool cars
  20. and this one too http://bmwfans.info/
  21. what offset? around ET20 and it should be fine
  22. nice haul, good to see your doing the rear sway mount upgrades, they've been known to bend on the T/A. No toe kit though? Or are you just going to copy their design and make your own? I'd get the toe kit if you weren't already planning on it. incorrect toe can cause bad tyre wear as well. Have you done the front CABs? do those if you haven't and it will be a whole new car.
  23. I think the alloy shift carrier might be an age thing, my late pre /fl 318 has the alloy one
  24. Cheers stephen, I'm heading home next week so I'll see what he's got then. Thanks, if I don't have any luck with Ian's fitting I'll get in touch. I only want the plug/connector so water doesnt matter. I'm just not sure if all L-jets share the same plug.
  25. Pussy. my shortest day at uni is 4 hours (and thats just contact hours too). I've still got 2 years to go. During hols I work at a motorbike shop, mainly exhaust work but also basic mechanical and suspension.
