Superchip raises torque from 370nm @ 3250rpm to 421nm @ 2550rpm, and rasied BHP frpm 180 @ 3900rpm to 195bhp @ 4050rpm and is supposed to raise the economy. Various owners claim 800 to 900km on the 70 litre tank and at $1.65 a litre I don't mind paying 4.4 cents per Km road user charges.

The CAM belt was done at 120,000km by Audi in Hamilton. The rear suspension airbags have been done but yep that seems to be the major flaw. NZ new and has done 140,000km. Current owners are buying a Q7. Seems to have every option except a sunroof. It does have a Thule colour matched roof box which will be good for skiing, and now we can sell the one we bought for the Odyssey.

Didn't really consider the V8 as they are pretty thirsty and I already have a V8 in the 740i. The Audi has a superchip and as a result preduces more torque than my 740i so I'm looking forward to the 1st drive.

Bought a NZ new 2002 Audi Allroad 2.5TTDI on trademe and picking it up this Friday. Driving to Taupo in my sister inlaws Mercedes Benz CLK320 to pick it up, hopefully it will be nice enough to have the top down for a bit. We will now have 3 Euro vehicles, the SLK, the 740, and now the Audi. This is the replacement for our 2001 Honda Odyssey V6 4WD. Why? It seemed like the right thing to do! (My firends say I have poor impulse control).

Yep with all the P labs, gang crime, dangerous driving, unsafe cars, it's great to see the cops cracking down on this. Their story about crims buying them is bull sh*t. Why would they pay good money to import some german plates? Crims nick plates off cars all the time to use on the cars they are committing crimes with. So why... ? Maybe it's $200 towards their quota? Maybe there are too many cops who enjoy being pricks?

Thanks for the feedback. I viewed the car, and took it for a test drive. The car has the EPC light on permanently, indicating a fault with the Engine management System. The oil was very dirty, and barely showing on the dip stick. The service light was on. While it had the manuals the service records were conspiculously absent. No sigh of the cam belt having been changed. Oh and the front discs had about a 3mm lip on them. Oh and when it was idling it was almost stalling every 5 seconds or so. Otherwise a nice car, in that it felt nice and tight, and went well despite the EPC light which indicates the engine is operating in a default reduced power mode. I certainly won't be touching it, but I'd consder one if the previous owners actually looked after it! Apparently wholesale cars direct want to buy it (but there offer was too low). I guess they would tart it up, give it a service and sell it to some unsuspecting buyer.

Well i didn't do anything as spectacular as you but I did put a knife down my index finger spitting ham steaks (went in, hit the bone, and slid down opening it up for quiet some distance - still get woozy thinking about it). Basically had no feeling in most of that finger for years. I got used to it but it does have about 90% feeling compared to my other fingers - but not 100%. That was 15 years ago!

I'm looking at a NZ new 2003 Audi A3 1.8T Sportsback as a commuter car 60km a day. It's the 1999-2003 model, 5 door, with tiptronic gearbox. No modifiactions so I'm assuming its the 110kw version. It's not quattro. I know they share a lot of parts with the VW Golf. So are these any good?. Still keeping the E38 740, and the SLK (and the Honda Odyssey).

Yep hes got the fuel economy all wrong. The 750i is more thirsty than the 740i, which i have and the best I can do on a trip is 8.5l/100km, normally it's about 14l/100km. BMW manual claims way better than it can actually do.

I retrofitted nav to my E38 using a MK3 mav unit and it's very basic nav compared to my Garmin - and cost a lot more. Other than the fun of doing it there wasn't a lot of point. Maybe a 16:9 monotor would make it better. I did upgrade the video module so can run the widescreen of i can source one. Hotwire helped me.

Damn someone better tell Mercedes Benz and Audi then.

loved the story. I've done Upper Hutt to Auckland Sales Street on 5 hours 20 minutes back when I was in my 20's. I left my girlfriends place at 5am and got to work at 10.20am. It was 1998 and I was driving a 1987 2.0 litre Honda Accord - I think my average speed for the distance travelled was 145kph. I got lost near Hamilton and ended up heading to Morrinsville. The Honda was economical but not driven like this. I filled up at Bulls, then again at Waiouru, and still ran out of petrol on the the New market flyover. I coasted off the next exit and used the starter motor to get across an intersection and to a petrol station. It was insane. It was the best drive of my life. No way I'd do anything remotely like it now, although i do like to let rip on a pair of skis LOL

He has a point - the car they 'gave' him on the show was a maxed out 3 when the cameras were rolling. They said when he got back to Wellington he would get a brand new one. Well it was new and it was a 3. But it was nothing like the one they they 'gave' him on the show.

Pretty cool if you could - upgrading the nav unit is serriously expensive.

LED ones are still LCD, they just have LED back lights. That said something like the Samsung 55" LED is about as good as they get. We just got a new 55" Sony LCD under Harvey Normans lemon clause - not a great TV but it was 'free'. It replaced a Sony 60" SXRD rear projection TV with 6 million pixels - picture was the best but it was not reliable. TV technology no longer in production. Despite everything they say Plasma TV's still get burn in - we have a Samsung 42" Plasma in the bedroom and everytime we turn it on you can see the PS3 main screen outlines, however once there is a picture you can't notice it.

Avoid any ex-singapore car. They have massive electrical issues. I have a 1999 NZ new E38 and love it. On a trip driven quietly it's easy to get 10l/100km. Drving arround town and with some fast take offs at the lights I get about 15l/100km. Very comfortable car with lots of advanced features. If you can find a 2000 model with the widescreen dispaly and the clear indicators.

Lane splitting like he's doing in the 1st bit is a lot of fun - but bloody dangerous - which is why I sold my CBR1100XX. I could ride to work sort of sesible like, but coming home I couldn't resist the temptation. I was enjoying it until he started riding on the WRONG side of the road into oncoming traffic. And then the lane splitting a high speed through unbelieveably tight gaps OMFG. Great skills but a complete F---ing nut job.

I guess some people like their woman to look like skanky ho's, they prefer them to look that way. Most people don't. Just like low rider cars.

What is the fuel economy difference between the X5 4.4 v8 and the il6 3.0 petrol. That fuel consumption site shows 13.1 litres per 100km for the V8, and 12.7 litres per 100km for the 3.0. if thats right I'm wondering what the point of the 3.0 litre petrol is?

Four or five (unless they belong to hot women, them I'm OK to squeeze more in) Black or Blue X5 is preference. I't got the one feature we liked in our old 2006 Mitsi Outlander, the fold down rear loading shelf. Great for getting changed after tramping, skiing, caving, football etc.
