  3. Hi! like a child with a new toy. Well got to press some buttons last night on the trip back from Wanganui and used the cruise control for the first time.( yea old hands can stop laughing)was a bit weird taking your foot off the pedal and not knowing what to expect. didn't take long to get used to it. On a different note what happened at The A1 as I've had no time to watch the box or any thing else??

    my new ride

handle!! well after driving a people mover for the last 3and half yrs and then driving the beamer how can one compare. but yea stick it into and a corner and don't back off the pedal and around it goes,no body roll and comfee to, slow traffic was not a problem. Will need to learn how to us the cruise control etc or a donation maybe forth coming. I think Cain summed it up when i drove his 540 if you can make a 5 series leave the road you have really screwed up big time. No state 1 all the way but yes it would have been and interesting way to come home. might take a run that way some time and see what happens. Eibach springs tell me more?. hay do your figures first on the diesel bit as that was what the people mover was and with the extra maintenace involved it some eats up the savings you make plus the road tax.

  8. Kiwi 535 yes it is an auto had my arm bent on that one by my wife. In my contact with Cain Chapman he said that you were involved with the bmw car club it that correct or not. As i am interested in the driver programmes that bmw run also all the other benifits that are available from beening a member of the club. Could you come back to me with some info on this (a.hughes@slingshot.co.nz) or will you be at the bbq in waikanae on the 28th. As stated before will post some pic's of it shortly.
  9. Well done Eurovogue BMW and Jazzbazz you hit the nail on the head yes it is a 530i. Prod date 2001-06-27 first rego in 2002, e39, m54 530i, 17' wheels, sunroof, rear curtain etc. Thank you to all for that as you have shared of your knowledge with me. Will post pics of it shortly a 6hr drive home was my intro to the 530 when returning from Auckland in early Jan. Something nice to sit in and drive it. I didn't want to stop put my stomach kept saying feed me feed me. Was surprised at the fuel economy, 560 odd k's 8.3l/100 or 34mpg. Since then have managed to keep it around 9.3L/100.Still don't know how to work all the bits and bobs yet but that is half the fun finding out about what they do.

    COOLANT

Hi russ777, with out getting to tec o it also helps to prevent electrolysis eating things away ph value's.ie Aluminium head cast iron block wrong ph value big hole's.It does degrade over time so changing it can only help and it is a small price to for what it does in your cooling system.
  11. Have had a bad day so your weird comments are not welcome. Damien nice car you have. Sic and blackbma not sure what to make of your words of wisdom. Nick021 thank you for having a go.But No it is not a 520 I was adviced away from them by some of your fellow members and took their advice. the year is correct and I gave the colour type 4 or 5 posts back. Will be getting our digtial camera back and will post it in my ride section so all will be revealed. But Nick021 your comments have showm me that little things like chrome strips and other items you named can assist a keen BMW fan to identify the make's and models available out there. Thank you for that Regards Allan
  12. hi Jazzbass and Cain yes it is a E39 you got the year correct and it's first reg date, prod date according to the print out i have say's 2001-06-27, the colour is Orientblau Metallic (317) what ever that means. It's a nice dark metallic blue and I like it. Will relent and put it on My Ride section, I believe that is the correct place for it. Need to get the digital back off my daughter so might be a day or two before i can get the pic's up. Cheers guys
  13. Gentlemen, Gentlemen and I us that term loosely!! please keep to the subject the man asked for fuel figures. Not if you have sex with a condom or not , wether you prefere an auto or manual. AA point taken on board. will keep you honest on Jochens handy work with the radios EM and Rog come back to me with some of the mans work. Thanks Allan
  19. thanks BMW power, EM for the advice any one stand out in the bmw dealers in Auckland or all a much of a much ness and is that $70 a firm price or about as I've heard some charge like wounded bulls. AA charged a mate of mine $135 for an inspection (non member) in Palmy Nth.Hi Grant (hotwire) thanks for the radio info may come back to you on that if it goes west. Don't mind the stirring keeps people honest and life can be to short need to have fun and plenty of good humour, cheers allan
  20. Hi! Martyyn thank you for the advice very welcome 30k is a little beyond my budget but the diesel idea has not gone un noticed. As for the price's even i have noticed in the short time looking that they have moved down in certain areas, is it the time of year or a sign of the times who knows!. Auckland has a few hills and plenty of slow traffic to test out the engine sizes a?.Can you tell me what IMO stands for, still getting used to the jargen being used.As for ticking the boxes you are right their. shelling out that amount of $$$$ i will want all the bells and whistles make no doubt on that score. Have got a couple that have filled the boxes, it only remains for a test drive and a check out. regards allan
  21. opps!! sorry don't want to offend anybody hotwire. Thanks everyone for the info the petrol octane/ engine mangement system take care of, are they that smart, not doubting you. What cost would one be looking at to have the tuner change over if required and what do you meam by plug and play? Sorry to keep on but this mind is buzzing for all the knowledge you can give.
  22. Hi! hotwire, no not at all any help would not go begging thanks with electronic stuff in a BMW. When you say reset what do you mean as other imports I've had ie toyota's had the radio expanded and it was a pain in the butt as the frequncy on the panel didn't match the radio frequncy and it was a lottery as to what you listened to.Dumb question what does the nav system really do for you???. Allan
  23. Hi! Cainchapman and Jazzbass info most helpful narrows the feild down. the fuel stats helped a lot as running it on 96 ( can anything other be used or is that dicey)and some idoit witha grenade in an oil refinery, bang goes the price of gas again. So it seem to be these three which are the favoured, 523, 528, 530. Thank guys will recheck the list and keep in touch. off to Auckland for a look see soon. the pic shown thats got to be painful in more ways than one Regards Allan hope every body had a good new year bash.
