  6. Carl to- cha! yes we must not be distracted i take all blame for the detour that this post just took.Rog I know what you mean mate back to the black strips between the rims and the road. to all it has been a very lively debait and I have learnt heaps on the subject of tyres, not just pieces of rubber by any means . I also hope that others visiting this post now and in the future learn from the knowledge freely given by all that took part, 3pedals, zenneti to name put a few. about a subject that is complex with many factors to consider. In going further we have gone over the tyres used for public use ie highways and by ways what factors come into play then when the racing side is considered? all you racers out their input please!!
  7. I'm back, well done you seem not to have treaded one another yet. Joking aside it has indeed been a robust discussion with many good points raised and sorted out. Rog what a rush what did the rev read? Like Rog stated read the posts careful and the knowledge gained through others experience is vital. IS THAT NOT WHAT THIS FORUM IS FOR. sorry don't mean to shout. YES i have made a choice it ended up between the Dunlop sport Maxx and the Eagle GSD 3's decided to go for the eagles. Get them fitted on Friday will see what unfolds and let you guys know the out come.

    So now you know

well I hope so go kick butt. thought that the BMW was a rare thing but went to Napier on Saturday and while going their saw 30 odd other beamers like a shooting gallery. On the return about Dannevirke had one come from no were and was gone interesting, black low slung large tips funny tail lights crease line in the roof. only saw it again as it got tied up in all the other traffic coming up to the Manawatu gorge. can you figure what it was try this http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r306/al...coupe-3b1-1.jpg couldn't find a black one. hope everyone one had a safe and happy easter cheers
  9. hello guy's having a good discussion are we. I asked for tyre info it seems to have gone beyond that point and so I wish to call it a day. I thank you all for your input. It is a large subject open to a lot of conroversey and IMO's. Have had a look in the manuel of the 530 and the pressures stated are for a vehicle with four adults on 235/45 r17 94w/y is 2.3bars or 33psi in the front and 2.8bars or 39psi in the back. for 5 adults and luggage 41 in the front and 48 in the rear. if that is what the manuals says who are we to disagree with the vehicle manufacture spec's.
  10. better than trying to explain it

  15. Hi all. Not sure if this is the correct place but here goes. how does one remove the bulb which illuminate's the angel rings. have tried pulling it straight out, pushed/ turn it but still can't get it out. it,s recessed and difficult to get hold of the bulb. it's rated at 12volts 10watts so would it be ok to increase the wattage or would i course another problem by doing that
  16. denny so so. but these things happen the clown in the other vehicle fish tailing a trailer bit of a thick oo in my opinion and a danger to other road users as well.
  17. well how to get really pi******888 off my wife (kerry) came up to me when she got home friday evening and i know from her body language I was not going to be in a good mood for long. We went into the garage and she told me the story and pointed out the problem. Otaki way resealing the road. vehicle in front with trailer, nearing end of the new chipping bury's boot fish tail's the trailer to the side of the road and the loose chip, kerry hit's the brakes to get more distance, she wasn't close any how. the long and short of it. the bonnet has four large paint chips, and several smaller one's, the windscreem has three chips I've found so far, the wing mirrors didn't get away either both have white showing on them.she said it was like multiple shot gun blasts as the stones hit the windscreen what a bitch. the vehicle turned off not long after that and she wasn't able to get close enough to read the pr-558687ks number plate. Has any body got any ideas apart from a trip to the spay painters, filler's, stone protection film a bit late I know.on a good note she wasn't injured in any way just a little shaken up by the whole affair.

  22. thanks for the info on the t1-r and t1r-s type tyres. on a different note drifty some more info on the pic you have showing what's the story on that little mishap?
  23. Lidistick thanks for the preference list for sure on wet traction and braking in the wet easy to go fast a bit harder to stop if the rubber don't cut it. From quote of 3pedals interesting point about a tyre having a shelf life of about six years, as they age they get harder hence less wear. A factor I had not even thought of thanks . seems like a no win situation want the good handling loss tyre life.want long tyre life loss the handling finding that good balance seem to be the trick. From what you guys have said so far I'm leaning toward good traction in a wide range of situations. Yes the coarse chip on NZ roads is a factor to consider but when all said and done what meets the road is what will help you and your family survive should a mishap occur. will check out the toyo site to.thanks guys
  24. thanks for the info guy's it helps me by beening better informed and what I need to look for when the time comes for fitting new tyres. BMW power yeah $500 a tyre is a bit steep, what ks did your dad get on the cont's before the G3's were fitted and how are the G3's for noise and wearing? Grant not at all, what were the MXV4's like on NZ roads for wear and noise? In general then 40k to 50k's is about it for a set of tyres.any one brand stand out from the rest, or are they all a much of a muchness.
  25. thanks so far guys, Gus thanks on the barums lidistick, do you have lead feet for both pedals, last vehicle i had did 80,000k's on a set and it weighed in at 1.9 tonnes was driven hard and fast, so why not a e39 or similar with better suspension, steering the whole works going for it. 3pedals your are right the rubber is the only thing between you and the road and i wasn't trying to sound cheep just wanting some clear info. what do you me by preformance tyre and thanks for the price range had figured about $300 or so per tyre. yes on all four beening the same type thats for sure. the driving is mainly general running about 60% highway 40% town, as for fast well have had a few close calls so the cruise is now set around 108, call me chicken but $$$ is $$$ and why make a donation if you have the techno to prevent it, I know invest in a radar detector.back to the tyres would like something that is quiet, holds well in the wet and dry.yeah!! will be interested in the out come on the 97's that you are trialing let me know please cheers allan
