  1. Ain't hindsight a bitch. Cheers for the offer tcbaurpower but I'll get it sorted, just need to get stuck into that stubborn ball joint.
  2. I had it seated properly with the jack under the strut as I got the shims in position from the top but it only got halfway, snagged on the thread. As soon as I released the jack it banged out of position and the spring bowed which got me a bit scared! Ill try get the strut off with the pickle fork, didn't want to attempt it earlier incase i buggered the bush, but i'm running out of options. If this doesn't go to plan hopefully I still have a face and I'll take it to a workshop. Cheers for the help guys!
  3. Yeah got the top hat bolted back in, but just can't get the shim's aligned with the spring housing well enough while its under pressure to get the strut rod high enough to put the nut back in from the top, which is why the whole thing has moved out the side with the spring bowing. I guess I could try compress the spring again, unbolt the top hat and get the strut rod in the housing before I bolt it back in the tower? sh*t its been a learning curve. Edit: Its the larger of the joints on the rear side of the car that I can't get loose.
  4. Yeah I tried to remove the strut altogether but couldn't get the larger of the two tie-rods off, even with the puller and torque wrench on there. I guess I should have made a better attempt at removing the rotor and dust shield which was preventing me to get the best access at the tie-rod. The rotor bolts didn't budge, should I try heating the nuts? The smaller tie-rod came off in an instant but this one is being a super pain in the ass. Taking the whole strut out does seem the way to go, if only I'd stuck with it! Had to drive the girlfriends car all weekend which was an absolute downer
  5. Its yellow headlight vinyl, comes on and off pretty easy which is good because Mr Wof man doesn't like it. Got it off Trademe, 300x1000 roll for around $30.
  6. The situation seemed to deteriorate this morning. Wasn't really looking for a camber that aggressive, especially a positive one. On the trailer it goes!
  7. Yeah even reversing up the driveway it made some strange noises, would the shock not survive the trip?
  8. Nah it wouldn't budge, i'd say i'm about 3mm from getting access to the thread, i think maybe the thread is catching on a shim in the housing part. I couldn't get the main tie rod free either, even using a puller which meant I couldn't remove the strut. Those claw compressors are horrible! must have spent half the day winding an unwinding the bloody things.
  9. So today I tried to put some new springs in my touring, only on the front. And instead of getting low, it now sits about 40mm higher on one side, and no, I didn't install hydros. Long story short is I never managed to get the strut out from under the guard, spring compressors wound up pretty damn tight. I think where I went wrong was undoing the strut rod nut too early, which made the top of the spring that wasn't compressed go wild. Tried to bail and just put it all back together but never managed to get the strut rod high enough into the mount in order to screw the nut back on. A. Is it safe enough to drive it with the shock not attached to the chassis to a "real" mechanic to sort it out? B. Any tips on trying to push it higher? C. Anyone is Chirstchurch game enough to come have a look at my *%^&up and help me out? Maybe a doz beers to sweeten the deal? D. Anyone know the approx cost of getting springs installed? Cheers
  10. I'm after the said things. Dual fog light switch (my single one isn't cutting it) Metal spring thing on fuel flap, mine is warped or bent. Tiny screw which holds the plastic surround of the manual sunroof winder in place. Cheer.

    Name that gauge!

Don't think so, although its a pretty fresh transplant, I've only had the car for around 6 months, bought it off an independent BMW specialist who I guess did some mods, Msport chip etc. It sure goes hard. Just wondering if I should keep an eye on it or not..

    Name that gauge!

Cheers! So it would detect a fault such as a vacuum leak?

    Name that gauge!

Can anyone tell me what this gauge tells me? I'm guessing its telling me the pressure of the fuel injection, but why?
  14. Looks super nice apex! I've been thinking about coilovers too, but I'm on a bit of a budget. A mate of mine has just put JOM coilvers in his Jetta, and is pretty stoked with them at the moment. He picked them up here, price delivered works out pretty nicely too: http://www.veedubmachine.co.uk/index.php?m...roducts_id=1199 I might see how new springs go for a start and upgrade later.
  15. Hey guys, I'm looking to lower my e30 Touring, 6cyl. It sits lower in the rear as it is, I want to get the front down to a similar/lower level. I've been looking at these: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=440069947 Would getting front springs on their own be a daft idea? Would I have to get new shocks? (not sure what the current shocks are) Would the king springs be ok in that I don't want the handling or ride to suffer too much? Cheers, Heres the car as it is:
  16. Had some beers and Back to Black'ed my trim. Stoked on the result.
  17. Spotted this touring lurking in my CAD library and made some adjustments
  18. Made my headlights a little French.
  19. Just went and had a look, both are wired in. Guess I'm off to the wreckers for a dual switch and a relay! Unless anyone's got a spare kicking around? Cheers for the help guys.
  20. Is there any way to lock the centres on? I can just twist mine off by hand, kind of handy since my tool is broken but on the other hand don't want them stolen!
  21. My front foglights don't work at all, and never have while I've owned the car but the ominous wof date is fast approaching and if lights are on the car they have to work right? I can turn the rear ones on with a button next to the light stalk. I've read it can be swapped out for a dual button to control front/back independently? Aside from replacing the bulbs, I've checked the fuses etc but noticed I'm missing the K8 relay. Does the K8 provide the link to the lights? Guess I'm trying to find a fault other than broken bulbs before I go and get some more only to install them and find they don't work either.. they are pretty wack looking, very expensive? Photo of single button:
  22. Dark green E30 coupe with Oettinger badges sitting on black wheels with chrome centres on Montreal St, looks nice! Member on here?

    Roof Rack Fairing

Got the decal on this week. Done!
  24. I have a '89 e30 Touring that I want to put some coilovers in, all say they fit only 51mm struts. Am I right in saying my car has 51mm as opposed to 45mm? It's had an M325i transplant, which I'm guessing required no modification of the shock department. Does anyone have any info on the difference between touring/sedan suspension setups? From what I've seen / read a few companies make touring specific setups.
  25. A few write-ups on classic BMW's have popped up on Stanceworks over the past few days, might be of interest to some peeps. http://www.stanceworks.com/2011/11/socal-vintage-bmw/ http://www.stanceworks.com/2011/11/ireland...ing-bmw-heaven/
