  1. Is it a facelift or pre-facelift?

I can't give you an answer really until I saw the condition of it, like paintwork, extent of the rust and interior condition.

    Please refer my OP.

After what you have already said... and being a UK import before better body protection was introduced

    I'd say

    WALK AWAY FROM IT NOW

Interesting, thanks Glenn. BTW, I was thinking of it as more of a project. Complete strip out to shell with strip back and repaint. Just something Ive always wanted to do.

  2. Hi All,

Need a bit of help. Ive come across a car that ive always wanted. Its the right colour, shape, trans, kit etc etc but the timing could not be worse. No storage and I dont intend on selling the E36 just yet.

    1988 325i Coupe

    150 miles

Facelift (as far as im aware - newbie)

    UK import in 1995

    Manual

    Red

Mtech front, rear and spoiler (no side skirts for some reason)

    Sunroof

    Full Service history from 97

    No leather from memory

Paint is pretty rough/faded, rust bubbles on sunroof itself. Owner said rust has been cut out around screen and panels. Its not a motorsport as far as im aware.

I have not driven the car yet or given it a good going over. Just seen it on today on the street and spoken briefly to the owner. He wants 3.5k which IMO might me a little high judging by condition. Will possibly view on wknd and put some pics up. Obviously if I take it further I will be getting a pre-purchase inspection from a reputable workshop.

So, based on the above roughly what would it be worth?

    Cheers

    Brett

  3. * Tiger Woods is so rich that he owns lots of expensive cars. Now he has a hole in one.

    * What's the difference between a car and a golf ball? Tiger can drive a ball 400 yards.

    * What do Tiger woods and baby seals have in common? They both get clubbed by Norwegians

    * Tiger Woods crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree. He couldn't decide between a wood and an iron.

*Apparently, Tiger admitted this crash was the closest shave he's ever had. So Gillette has dropped his contract.

    * After a wayward drive, Tiger Woods found water before nestling behind a tree

    * Apparently, the only person who can beat Tiger Woods with a golf club is his wife

    * Barack Obama is reportedly going to send an additional fighting force of 30,000 to Afganistan. But one source

says Obama could change his mind and send 20,000 troops plus Tiger Woods' wife.

  4. ^^^ Thanks Brett... I'm thinking along the lines of a twin lense kit as well. I just used those as examples. I'm still researching. I agree about the warranty and expect to probably have to pay a little more. When I do get a camera I can always play around with my old lenses just to see what happens and what effects they have.

    No worries Glenn.

A few months ago now I purchased a near new Canon 40D (semi prof) DSLR body from a photographer on trade me for $1200, RRP at the time was about $2200. I then picked up a standard 18-55mm kit lens for $100 and a 50mm Prime Lens for $120. This setup is more than enough for me to keep me entertained/frustrated, produces fantastic photos and didnt break the bank! :D

Dont want to throw a spanner in the works but take a look at the 40D or 50D if you can push that far. The build quality is far superior to say the 1000D, 450D, 500D. More of a semi prof camera before heading the full frame option.

It pays to take your time, and shop around.

Let me know if you have any more questions

  5. Hi Glenn.

In all honesty I think that when you purchase a new DSLR youre not going to be wanting to put your old lenses on it! Esp when you can get good kit lenses cheaply that produce great results.

As mentioned above I think that the focal length will change due to the sensor size of the two cameras being different. This is called "crop sensor" Rule of thumb is to multply the focal lens of your old lenses by 1.6

As above, buy a camera with a kit lens. Its a great way to get started and learn the camera not to mention the cheapest alternative.

The 500D you've linked looks to be a very sharp price! It comes with a good wide angle (18-55mm) and a good zoom lens (55-250mm) These will be perfect to get you up and running, producing great results. One thing to look at is the warrenty. It looks as if you have to send back to the seller who then sends it to Hong Kong. Just be wary of this.

I know its a more expensive option but buying from a well reputed company can be invaluable when it comes to any problems/questions you may have.

Hope this is of some help.

    Cheers

    Brett
