  1. From the pic it looks like surface rust, rather than a hole. Paint's probably just worn from regular use. Would pay to check your door seals, vapour seal, etc to find out where the water's getting in and fix that. Sand until all the rust is gone (you may need wire wool as William suggests) then repaint. Normal primer and car paint should suffice though you should do plenty of coats and a lacquer so it's tough and doesn't wear again. If the leak gets fixed it should be fine.
  2. Didn't know you could recode TV to work in motion. Does your M5 have digital TV or is it going to defunct like mine when analogue is completely phased out.Not that I use the TV much - would like to replace at some point with bluetooth/DVD/etc unfortunately, the cheap (and excellent) Dynavin knock-off I had for my 528i couldn't control OBC functions which are all done from the board monitor on my 540.
  3. Did they tell you what they'd done each time they've repaired? I'm sure someone on here can identify the noise, however, if I wasn't getting the service I required for a near-new car from the dealer, I'd be kicking up a major fuss. Take it someone like Glenn at Botany Motorworx (Forum sponsor) to identify the issue properly and then get the dealer to pay for the correct repairs under warranty.
  4. Like how to order people around? "Daddy, stick this here" "Daddy, make a house" "Daddy, make the Eiffel Tower" "Daddy, why is it taking so long?"
  5. Thanks Ray - will see you on Monday! Meant Whangarei but wrote Warkworth... No idea why. Hope it's not an imminent stroke.Which I fixed as many things as I break!! hah
  6. I'm a jack of all trades but master of none (although I do have a degree in Fine Art which qualifies me for pretty much f*ck all) The car is pretty professional so almost certainly well planned and obviously nothing to do with me! All of mine are drawn and cut by eye/hand with scissors and a box cutter. Not a ruler in sight! Me too. My dad build WWII planes that he saw as a kid from scratch out of balsa wood. Blew me away when I inherited them. My son seems to love the stuff we build but has an unwavering passion for "toys made out of plastic" - the modern child!!
  7. How about I make the M5 out of cardboard? (I can't take credit for this 1:1 scale E46)
  8. Haha, thanks! My lad's very good, he knows the difference between adult glue and children's glue (and adult drink vs children's drink, etc!!). Tape's another matter! Ever since he saw me use green painter's tape to brace the spoiler on my E39 whilst glueing, he's gone crazy for it. I've had to buy several 5 pack rolls of $2 Shop masking tape to stop him using up the expensive stuff! Trouble is, the crap tape leaves adhesive marks on everything (and I mean EVERYTHING!). EDIT: Incidentally, No More Nails is amazing for this kind of thing - makes it very, very strong. He's still got cardboard toys from 2 years ago that are still in one piece thanks to the glue!
  9. You're a genius, Graham, but we already live in a villa which is just an expensive wooden box.... Suppose we could try cardboard. If it's good enough for the Christchurch cathedral... They're a bit rough around the edges, Tom... Don't think I'd part with actual money for these and they require an awful lot of "let's see what happens if we stick this to this" and glue (No More Nails is awesome!)
  10. By making my son's toys out of the boxes the parts came in!!
  11. It'll happen... But might be a bit harder to under $15K! Still a few grand a year is way more affordable for me than $25-30K + bills for an M5.
  12. Not doing it. Booked the car in with Ray for double Vanos overhaul. Remedial first - goodies later.
  13. Brilliant!Only BMW specialist I can think of close to the CBD is BM Workshop on Great North Rd, Grey Lynn. GLWP!!
  14. Lots of new LCD screens or whole clusters... Will keep hunting.EDIT: PS... Should have driven to Warkworth, shouldn't I?!
  15. Made a mistake when fixing dead pixels... Now I need an LCD screen as well. If anyone has a cluster that's broken but the LCD is okay then please let me know.
  16. I got the tracking no. and notification from Fed Ex on their last day before closing.... Wish we had four week closures in my line of work!
  17. Is it scratched through to the plastic? If not a decent cut and polish might do the job?
  18. Great looking car. Love the four door.
  19. Thanks. Yeah, annoyed with myself... Especially as the rest of the process had gone smoothly. Will put a DIY up once I get the new screen in so hopefully it doesn't happen to anyone else!
  20. Very nice, Brent. Are you keeping this one?
  21. Broke the f*cking lcd screen on my instrument cluster while attempting to replace the ribbon. Angry with myself. The plastic unit holding the screen was very brittle and I didn't realise a couple of the clips for the lcd surround had already cracked. When I put the surround back on I was pressing to hear the 'click' of the clips. It never came obviously, and I pressed a bit hard. Pain in the neck. A $20 pixel fix has turned into an $80 lcd screen replacement! Also added some chrome bezel rings and coloured the needles red with a Sharpie which worked pretty well. (I'd tried fluorescent needle paint previously and it was rubbish). Since everyone else seems to have bought new gear and handbrake gaiters lately I thought I'd follow suit. Just got black ones with dark red stitching to match the trim. Not a great pic with the phone and flash but you get the idea.
  22. 99% decided to wait and upgrade the car in stages.
  23. If I was the only driver of the car the manual conversion would be a certainty and I'd definitely explore options like this but as I'm not, the conversion's not possible so looking to get the best out of the auto trans. Feedback online for the Dinan s/w is very positive. Will definitely update once I've got it installed.
  24. Have had the manual conversion debate already! http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....t=0&start=0Going away for most of August so am going to ship my EGS to Dinan for the s/w upgrade then. Will be interesting to see what's it like.
