Anyone else reckon that the E36 coupé is the best-looking BMW ever?

Flew up to Auckland on Saturday morning to pick it up.. big ups to Gus for checking it all out for me beforehand. Nice drive back to Wgtn via New Plymouth over the weekend to get used to the extra power over the 323... which is certainly very noticeable. 80-120 feels instantaneous, easily takes advantage of any overtaking possibility. Plans: first things first, take off the spoiler... not a big fan of them in general and this one is a little weird too. M3 mirrors at some stage if I feel inspired and if I come into some spare cash, might look at swapping the wheels for a set of M Double Spoke Style 135s. Have seen a couple of E36s with different boot lip spoilers (one ACS, one BMW from the E46) that I think do add some style so might look into that later too. Still not convinced about the colour, definitely missing the bostongrün but I guess it'll pass. Anyway on to the pics..

Always the way, isn't it... would have seriously looked at this one myself if I hadn't just picked up my new silver one.. will post some pics on that soonish but in the meantime... 1996 328i in montrealblau, only 56kms... in Invercargill though. Dealer asking $17k. 328i coupé

Where in the country are you Grant?

Hmmm.. I'm thinking this car really needs at least 18s... it looks a little hobbled on those small 17s...

I was under the impression that you had to actually license the plate string from LTNZ via PP to actually have the right to use the different text on any car, regardless of what style of plate you actually end up using. Somewhere along the line you've got to register the fact that that combination is now in use on a vehicle in NZ, and that will cost you the $500 that PP will charge. Of course this doesn't apply if you just want to change the look of your std rego plate.

Bentley BMW Service Manuals

I'd be keen for one too - 97 E36 In fact if they're a good price I would be tempted to pick up an E46 version as well. -
No I think it was simply that having a german car isn't a good enough reason to get german plates, while being British or Dutch are much better reasons to get British or Dutch plates. So German plates were a distant third in the running.

I see you've got my Double M Spoke Style 135 wheels.. loving that :thumb:

What I'm seeing is a 2-plate & 2-mount deal at $49.95, shipping 26 so looking at $US75 without the screws.. does that sound about right?I might be interested in a set of those screws.. though I don't know if there's much point posting them..

Don't suppose for a fee I could tempt you to spend some of your free time checking out a 97 328 on the North Shore? It's got full history so I'm not too concerned with doing a full inspection.. plus I've had a chat to the guy & he seems like the sorta guy who should be on here too.. heh.. -
Bit late to mention it now I guess but anyway.. This is my old car. I had wanted to be down there & maybe pick it back up if it didn't go for much.. won't be able to make it down there now but if anyone happens to see this tomorrow morning before about 10:30... http://www.turners.co.nz/auctions/more_det...7d-1f43ba84fef4

This looks like a sweet price on a pretty sweet E46: http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction...607&permanent=0 I know the general rule is to simply avoid Singaporean imports altogether... is that still just as true for the E46s as well?
-
yeah man let's see those pics... random....
-
nah nah, that was just a passing thought.. still very much looking for E36s...
-
Why do you say that? THat's precisely the key I had on my 96 E36, jap import. It's also the only part of the car you cary around with you all the time.
-
Seems trivial but the cars I've been looking at this time around have all had fat ugly heads like this one: In case the car I end up getting has one of those, is it pretty simple to change the head on it? I much prefer the one I had on my 96: Also, came across this while I was looking for pics. Reckons all the post-95 keys store the car's mileage? Can anyone confirm this? Cheers

No problem.. cheers man.

Thanks mate, that would be awesome. Means I can stop thinking about trips to auckland for inspections.. Come to think of it if there was any chance of an E46 323Ci in Orient blue with full leather trim & sunroof around $25k I would go for that too.. heh. I'm guessing though that E46s haven't quite come down that much yet, no?

Sure thing. Actually what I'm after is almost exactly that black 328 at Voyager, but in Boston Green. Essential specs: Coupe Bostongrün or Montrealblau M-Spec + kit NO rear spoiler or at least one that can be removed without leaving holes in the boot 97 or later 323 or greater 65km or less Sunroof Half-leather or better Standard motorsport wheels or better Ideal specs 1998 328 - strong preference Bostongrün; if Montreal blau, ivory/grey full leather trim. Factory CD changer or MP3-capable head unit Plastic stone guard still present under front spoiler - good sign it's been looked after Full service records, obviously. I prefer the T-shifter and 4-spoke steering wheel to the newer stick & 3-spoke versions but that's not a big deal. None of the E36 wheels came with CD & AirCon controls, did they? If it has M Double Spoke style 135 or M V Spoke style 72 wheels (though must be set of 5) then that's a bonus but not really an issue. Would consider a 98 328 in Artic Silver if it was absolutely perfect in every other way. I don't know if that's particularly educational but that's what I'm after. I'm looking to pay up to $18-19k, but can stretch to 20 if neccessary. Does that sound plausible? Thanks muchly Andrew
