  1. These are great.  I am still using my first gen one.  Even after I drove off with it still attached.  Easy fix.
But I am about to buy a multi bank smart maintainer.  Something like this.  Anyone using something similar?

    https://www.amazon.com/NOCO-GENIUS2X4-Fully-Automatic-Temperature-Compensation/dp/B08FYS6CL8/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=battery+maintainer+multiple+batteries&qid=1661465362&sr=8-3

    I have 3 x 12v and 1 x 6v to maintain.

  2. My LG TV's have been great.  But WebOS is terrible.  And as previously discussed with other products, I paid a far less for a much higher spec model of TV in the US.
Freeview doesn't work though.  Not that I care as I am not interested in ads or the News.
I have "Jail Broken" the TV's to allow me to install all available apps from around the world.  But they are still actively trying to cut this off so every month or so I have to go through the whole process again.  One of them is destined for the Shed very soon.

    I want Sony for Android.

Actually no, I have an A80J also, amazing TV. I couldn't justify the price difference to the 90 given that you get very little for the extra money, and nothing that was relevant to me.

Pro tip: if you have your TV hardwired to your home LAN (rather than WiFi) then grab yourself one of these (Amazon link), plug it in to the rear USB3 connection, swap your ethernet cable over, and upgrade your connection from 100Mb/s to 1Gb/s, inexplicably many modern smart TV's only come with 100 meg NIC's, including both the A80/90J's... smh. Disney+ over gigabit internet, via a gigabit adaptor, in glorious Dolby Vision + Atmos is astonishing and it can't hit its peak bitrate over a 100 meg connection.

I found this when trying to stream 4K movies via my plex server.  All of a sudden the host is ramping up to 100% trying to transcode the 45gb file down to something the TV can handle.
I did not know you can plug in an adapter like this though.  I have LG TV's from the US.  But I am looking at going back to Sony TV's.  I think I have one of those adapters in a box somewhere.

Problem I guess with any reasonably desirable 20 plus year old car that was once cheap and in bits and now potentially expensive.

Very easy for the seller (knowingly or unknowingly) just passing the buck and saying ‘Dunno seems good to me’ or previous owner said xxxxx.

No ‘salvage title’ type of record here?

The ‘rebodied’ 318i/M325i auction closes tonight I think - interesting if the top bidder goes through with it given everyone can see all the unanswered questions.

I really do wish we had Salvage Titles.
Though this would have hurt me badly when I was importing damaged vehicles to repair and sell between 1999 and 2003.
I stopped in 2003 when the new frontal impact laws came into place.  Little did I know I could have just shrugged my shoulders in answer to any damage concerns.....

That Estoril Shoe does come up as LHD via the Vin decoders.  Yet no mention of that in the auction description.  Shrugs shoulders.

Was thinking afterwards, is the problem our weetbix license system?

Yeah it is a joke.  But the ones driving like this very rarely even have one.
Thursday night is always a frightening drive home for me.  All the drunk Ute driving tradies leaving the Tavern after blowing all their money on horse racing and slot machines.

  6. https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/vehicle-registration/vin/

A person must not remove, erase, alter, deface, obscure, destroy or obliterate a VIN or chassis number.

A vehicle inspector must not issue a WoF or CoF to a vehicle with a removed, erased, altered, defaced, obscured, destroyed or obliterated VIN or chassis number.

However, if a vehicle can be appropriately identified Waka Kotahi will authorise the affixing or re-affixing of a new VIN.

These vehicles should be referred to a VIN issuing Agent (AA, Drivesure, Nelson Vehicle Testing Centre Ltd, VINZ, and VTNZ). They will inspect the vehicle and seek approval from Waka Kotahi to issue or re-issue a VIN plate.

    Rip-off pricing in NZ.

Looking for a new chainsaw. (I know what we need.) New price in NZ - $1375.

I can buy exactly the same saw at full retail price from a shop in the US, have it packed and shipped to NZ, and it'll cost half of that.

Interestingly, the NZ Customs website says "Since the total value of the goods is less than or equal to $1000, the duty is waived." And there was me thinking everything privately shipped in to NZ is now liable for duties.

Oh yeah people are taking the piss here at the moment.  So much so I don't even bother looking.
Unless you are getting mates rates or some sort of deal don't bother.

  8. You shouldn't need a valuation these days. You agree to a value and you pay for that.

E.g. I told classic car insurance my racecar was worth $*0,000 with its spares. This value was what I think it would cost to replace everything.

They came up with what that would cost me. I was happy with that and away we go.

The only time I would bother getting a car valued would be if I had no idea what it's worth, or I needed something external for legal reasons.

  9. I have 3 cars with AA and 2 with classic cover.

Recent claim with AA was great. Filed online. They called me and went over the details. Picked whatever panel shop I wanted in town. Place I wanted had a two month wait time which they were happy if I was happy.

Also had contents for the house with them until my mortgage holder forced me to change to their crap.

State can get stuffed. They are a nightmare to deal with. Entire family dumped them. They caused me some serious headaches when I was young.

  10. Finally got power to my new hoist.

Excitedly I chucked each car on it to have a look.  I think I was better off not knowing.

The old Daihatsu 4WD needs every bush.  Every single one.
The AMG's rear tyres are through to the wires.  Woops.  And the sump is leaking.
The 130 has an Exhaust leak.  And a new oil leak.
The S13 has many S13 issues.
I'm too scared to put the E34 on there.  It may never leave.

Oh and the low profile lift jack.... yeah not even close.  Going to modify that for sure.

  11. Good thing we nearly all drive classics huh.

BMW Marketing right now:  We will attract people to our disturbingly ugly cars by adding subscription services to them.  Next we will add micro transactions to punish those who do not like subscriptions.

I'm convinced the BMW Marketing and design departments have been captured by another brand.

Partially threaded one of my seat bolt holes, getting too complacent using the impact.

I do love how I tend to learn the hard way every single time 😑

    The way of the E30.
Every E30 I have owned was just me reversing all the f ups the previous owners made after f'ing it up even more and having to redo or rebuild.

The pains of a cheap sports car....  Oh wait.

I can't see them going back to pre covid values, the extra tax that's going to hit petrol/diesel vehicle so they can hand out the refund for buying EV's is going to reduce the number of vehicles coming in and increase the costs, so used vehicle prices will stay high.

Dealers are already scrambling trying to get cars already here registered by the due date.

It's surprising the increase in prices on some models almost 80 - 90% in some cases.

Two of my dealer mates have said this is the slowest period in car sales they have had in 5 years. They are back to having to actually sell vehicles rather than take orders. Including EVs.
