I was thinking that, eventually I would like to. M Tech 2 wheel would be my choice.

However, I would need to "un-airbag" convert my car which I will probably do at some point, because I'm not sure I trust my 30 year old dual airbags haha

Probably would do more harm than good if they went off.

I think I have another Mtech E34 wheel on my race car.  I will take a look.  Might need some love and a new badge though.  I think it is the bigger one though.

  2. Local media using a stock photo of a BMW E36 with European plates for a story about crashes on the Remutakas.

It should be a picture of a tradies Ford Ranger.  And a photo from the Remutaka's not some Euro highway.

  3. There was a stock road going 130i auto at Manfield yesterday.  I think it was doing 1:29's.  Which is not bad for a road car.  Tyres looked econo too.

I wish the BMW race series had gone with 130's rather than the E46's they settled on.  If I didn't have the E34 I would probably look at building one.  Simple, handles well, cheap parts, common easy to source parts across multiple platforms, and quite quick.  As seen in the video above.

Replaced the 55Ah with an 84Ah AGM and overcame my fear of bricking the car using INPA and NCS expert. Went pretty well. Confirmed with BimmerTools that its registered and updated the type. DId that Saturday morning and been checking the battery status each morning. holding in the low 80%s.

Also found a place in christchurch to repair the CCC unit not displaying on the screen. $4-500 estimate which is a bummer but is what it is. I want to replace the tiny screen with android auto/apple carplay unit.  Looks like Xtrons or AvinUSA are the best options in my budget and at around $8-900 landed its a bit more than i'd hoped for.

On the plus side google did show me how to set the time using the indicator stalk buttons so at least it wont complain about that in the mean time.

How/where did you get cruise control @Driftit? aftermarket or retrofit ?

Just a retrofit.  Got the gear from Brent at Bimmerworld.  It is simply a ring gear with the extra stalk and the bottom steering column cover.  Then a simple turn on in the software.

    Airbag out
    Wheel off
    Swap the ring gear
    Swap the cover
    Reassemble
Calibrate new ring gear via software
Turn on Cruise Control via software

    “Speed will be a factor”

Well of course it will, fatalities in stationary vehicles are practically unknown.

This crash was just after the incredibly frustrating roadworks that run nearly the entire stretch between Carterton and Masterton.  The speed limit changes 5 times.
    50 -> 70 ->50 ->70 ->50 ->80
This all was once 100kph with passing lanes.  All passing lanes are now permanently closed.

First world problems, drowned my cell so ordered a replacement ex AU a week ago - DHL has just processed it in Auckland, FFS 7 days from Brisbane to Auckland customs. Ordered a laptop for my daughter, two and a half weeks later and it's still sitting in Dunedin as Harvey Norman failed to request the stock transfer to Auckland. I did roast the Michelins through third today to blow off some steam.

Told my workmate about Rockauto for his Toyota. Parts arrived in Auckland 2 days after ordering. 4 days to get to Masterton from Auckland. Still two weeks faster and less than half the price of repco.

If a political party said they’d review NZTA, review political capture of their operations, and focus on other things in addition to speed, people would notice?

Both Labour and National are looking to have the limits reviewed here in the Wairarapa.  Nobody is happy with this change.

  8. Wow get ready for the slow life.  Moved to the Wairarapa after living in Washington DC for a number of years and Auckland before that.
Very few nice Euro's on the road down here.  Occasional cruises from Wellington to Marty show off some nice stuff though.

Enjoy the new 80kph speed limit on the state highway!
Wave out if you see me.  White E87 130i msport and a Black E55 AMG.  Drive to Masterton every day from Featherston.

  9. TBH everything listed so far is meh.  I would rather keep the N54 E87 for the track and get something suited to being a daily.  One car fits all rarely works.  Breaking your daily at the track is the worst.  And that Toybaru would break.  Often.  I have seen more Subaru's blow up at the track than any other brand by far.  Knock Knock, who's there?  Your big end bearings.

  10. I am having the time for my commute along a state highway increased from 30mins each way to 40-45mins each way.
Also having 21 raised pedestrian crossings installed of which I will need to cross the majority.
I am going to be interested to see what this does to my fuel economy too.  Introducing many new acceleration points.

An OIA was completed on how many deaths in the last 10 years on this stretch of road.  Answer was 5 since 2011.
Of the ones where speed was a factor.  The speed limit had not been a concern by those people and they were well and above any limit.
But they were included in their blanket stats.

1300 public submissions were submitted in regards to the speed limit changes on the road between Featherston and Masterton alone.  Zero changes were made to the initial plan....

I believe i only have the spare, there’s no buttons or anything, just the bmw logo.

Potentially that key does not have the EWS chip in it or is the spare for unlocking the car only. The car is behaving the exact way my E39 540i did when I dropped the EWS part of the key whilst I was changing the battery.

  13. Ah yeah it is quite a bit different.  The E39 rear has two mufflers, one being just a bypass of some kind.  You can cut one out and get a nice tone under load which is what I did.

A mate of mine owns the Pitstop in Albany.  He is on holiday at the moment and probably at least until the end of the month.  But he has done some magic with BMW's.  Understands how raspy they can get.
Pop in and chat to him if you get stuck.  His name is AJ, just say Dan sent you.
