Mmm, spotted that one. Definitely sexy, but definitely not cheap compared to the others... then again this one looks tip top!
-
Well no doubt, and we have looked at it extensively. And all the current signs point in that direction, especially the fact that is a common fault not to mention upgraded by BMW. So we are pretty damn sure it's it but obviously it could potentially be something else... we will tackle that if it comes. But yeh, we have looked into it as much as we can I think.
-
Seems like they not too bad, website in the states selling them for $95USD. I would say realistically probably going to cost me around $150-200 mark as you said.
-
Yeh, after a new timing chain tensioner (which has since been upgraded by BMW). I called Nick just before and he thinks only way is through BMW Last ditch effort to contact a friend in Singapore, but it's not looking good. Seems like I may have to bite the bullet and get one from Germany.
-
Bah, my bad. Timing chain tensioner! That was a typo in the title. We inspected the chain and it seems in good nick so we are assuming the tensioner needs replacement. According to some articles BMW has released an upgraded part so thats the one I am after. Sorry for confusion.
-
As in title, I am after the upgraded tensioner, any sellers?
-
Lets hope so! Much rather spend the money on a fresh coat of paint than a bloody chain >.<
-
Mmmm fair point, I am getting the mechanic to check the condition of the chain anyhow as the last thing I need is a snap... I will keep you guys posted on how I get on.
-
Does this qualify for the E30 race series? Thinking of getting into the race scene .
-
Just save it bro, for the future M3!
-
lol, Ruapuna is a race track not a government owned street... There are little kids on there sometimes in the junior drags etc. So no, you don't have to have a license to get on the track , to my knowledge anyhow. p.s. you should join us sometime man, E36 M3 is a monster on the track and sooo much fun!

Hi Guys, My baby is suffering form the exact symptoms outlined in linked article below (Annoying rattle from front of valve cover at low rpm, seems to have gotten worse over last month or so). http://www.geocities.com/rick_poon/tensioner.htm Thankfully, the fix seems fairly straight forward! My questions are: - Anyone know where can I order the "upgraded" timing belt tensioner? - Anyone have any comments on other things that may cause these symptoms that I should get my mechanic to look into? Thanks in advance!

I know the feeling man . I just got mine in the mail today! Wow, feel great to drive on the roads again (not just hanging out for track days).
-
Haha, doubt you will make it out much with my cars colour... but on yours, whooweee! bumble bee sexy supreme !
-
That just busts my balls ay! My front bumper is riddled with pesky stone chips from the track / crap NZ open roads, will be time for a fresh coat very soon too! Thankfully mine won't cost anywhere near $3000 though! I am almost tempted to buy those "car bra" things for track days from the States.

Right, I think it's time for fresh fluids all around so I was wondering if anyone had some recommendations. I want to put in the best stuff no doubt especially considering it's going to get a bit of track time. Wanting to replace engine, gearbox, brake and diff fluids. Cheers in advance!

I think it's time I update my sig... "Dreams are for free.. and in this one I own a f**king CSL..." damn you people, stop putting these thoughts in my head >.<

Sounds good! be interesting how much more you can squeeze out

http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....=8775&st=75 172kw / 240hp @ wheels. Engine was running a bit lean due to small air leak in the intake manifold, I have fixed that issue since so I think it should run a tad better now. Assuming I am running bang on factory figures (286hp @ flywheel) I am getting about 16% loss through the drive train which seems like a very realistic figure. The main problem here is that you can't really compare my dyno results (accurately) with yours. I say this because to my knowledge each dyno machine will differ not to mention our engines will most likely produce different results due to age / maintenance etc... I think to truly get an accurate results you have to do a benchmark dyno first (hence why I did this) and dyno on the same machine again and again after each milestone. This method will give you a true indication into performance gains. I would definitely recommend you do a benchmark dyno first, not only will this give you accurate performance gains you will also be able to ensure that your car is running well to start off with. Like I said, I managed to pick up that my engine was running lean initially and hence found the air leak. I would have never noticed this unless I did a benchmark dyno.
-
Sure did but never attempted any performance mods yet.

I won't go into your main question as I pretty much answered it in the other thread linked. In short, E36 will never reach E30 status however a good example M3 will hold it's value for a long time (my view anyhow). Now with regards to the E36 M3 in general, I honestly would not trade it for anything else in it's price range. Nearly impossible to beat when it comes to a fully well rounded car... then again I would say that as I have one . But yeh, I think the key is be patient. When I was in the market for one I had some bloody close calls where my excitement and enthusiasm almost landed me a lemon (a few times actually) but thankfully people here and others kept me in line.
-
Mmm, anyhow keep me posted on your findings Greg! Actual figures would be even better ! dyno before and after for the greater good
-
Highly doubt the E36 M3 will follow in the E30's footsteps as the E30 was THE origin. Can't see the E36 appreciating in value anytime soon (or ever). However, I also don't see the current market price going anywhere either... especially now that they don't comply with the new NZ import laws and hence we won't be seeing any more come into the country. They will continue to be a brilliant car that is VERY hard to find and frankly a whole lot of car for what they are worth nowadays. I think the real car to watch for with regards to dropping price will be the E46's, seems like their prices are really dropping now with the release of the new M3's.
-
Yep, same here. I too was considering that car when I was in the market however a mint NZ new M3 with full service history from new is bloody hard to come by and hence I snapped it up while I had the chance Then again, an M3 professionally tuned by Hamann... Wowwwzaaa! Just depends on where your priorities lie.
