The 540 does not need help doing skids........
-
maybe.... linlong tyres tho'

Thanks guys, i picked the up at a pickapart hoping they would go on the e34 or e39. back of spokes says 17x71/2 JJ 775-708 VR-3 no sign of an offset.....
-
I just aquired a set of these rims. What are they called please? apologies to owner of this pic, its not mine - nice e34 though.

Private sale as opposed to....? I think you would be doing well to get $2k for each. Maybe more for the Honda seeing its a year 2000. You'll need to find a nutty POM or someones grandad to buy that rover. Do either have AC? kiwis like their cold air in summer.

Mainfreight are pretty good, if the seller can drop at the depot they with shrinkwrap them onto a small pallet, otherwise toll if you are on the main rail line. Their depot is harder to find but they will be cheaper for heavier items.

But at least you have eliminated Battery, earthing points, alternator, HT leads, Coil, and the ICV now .....right? Sounds like they have no idea and are trying random stuff. If you have mate with an e30 swap the ICV's over and see if that makes any diff. Poor idle is one of the most common e30 probs and there are plenty of sticky's around (this forum and other) that will take you through. Most are easy DIY's including a compression test and the electrical ones can be done with a $20 DMM.
-
Not tempted to DIY?
-
remember when you throttle off the TPS clicks and the idle is then controlled by the ICV, and vice versa when you throttle on. Check the TPS is clicking off as the throttle closes (you do this with the car off and just listen for the click) TPS may need adjusting or the ICV may need cleaning out.

I've finally bit the bullet and I'm taking to an auto electrician on Monday. I would go to an experienced independent bmw workshop rather than an auto sparky. You may end up with a new set of HT leads and coil and no improvement....... Did you dismantle and clean/check your tps?

A good week for the 540 which is now legal, harvested some bits at pickapart, replaced interior handles, wiper head, heater resistor, dismantled nose and grilles to replace headlight units. (electric adjusters were broken and bodgied up with cardboard)) Now have manually adjusted set from that white M5. Painted all front grilles black. Wheel alignment, degreased steering box and pump to find no leaks. Checked auto trans level and its fine. Car is holding onto shifts when cold so planning to get the dealer to "reset the adaptations" and see if that helps smooth it out. Waiting on a box of Pelican parts so i can do the RCG's, change trans filter, plugs and replace hood shocks. Left to do is fuel flap spring, replace intake boot, lose some muffle from the exhaust, replace glovebox hinges, test fit new rims, shadow remaining trim, find a set of sport seats and a tech 2 wheel with an airbag....? I like this car more than the E39 or E30. Must be the extra 2 cylinders.......

Fitted new fuel pump (thanks Brent) and its up and running. Went for a short drive to get gas and see how it ran. Noted the following issues; 1. Vibration under brakes although this reduced after several hard brakes. 2. Chain noisy at idle - time for new tensioner? 3. A whiny kind of hissing noise that goes away above 1k rpm 4. Hard line from aux water pump snapped off just as i opened the bonnet back at home. nice timing 5. windows go up 2 inches at a time meaning i have to keep pushing the switch 6. Heater fan resistor is shot so no fan on 1,2,3 7. Exhaust is very quiet - can hardly hear the V8...... This weekend i will be changing the oil and dropping the pan to check oil pump bolts, will check plugs etc, Any idea on #3 above?

The battery clinic for recond batteries. cheap and they last.

Anyone know of a similar reverse shipping option from UK to NZ?
-
Yeah there are plenty of options available but typically the shipping cost is massive. Turners wanted over US$500 to ship a set of Bilsteins.
-
sounds to me like tps. If you can't hear it clicking on and off its a good bet. If you remove the inlt man you will have to deal with the oil vent tube which can be testing. Long cranking can also be cap and or rotor
-
In Tauranga - can post shroud at your cost. PM me if keen. Saw your recaro listing, will wait for pics......

There is a sticky round here somewhere on the correct use of a rotary buffer. There is a bit of an art to it. In the wrong hands with the wrong product and techique they can F%%k your paint real fast . A random orbital polisher seems to be the preferred tool. mask off your black trim, do plenty of youtube research first and start with a light compound would be my 2c. Good if you have a spare panel or a friends car to practice on..........

see note saying damage to chassis rails

Different car. I bought this a a non-runner, PO stated his mechanic has diagnosed the non-start issue as "bad cam chain tensioners" I thought i'd start with fuel pump/ filters. New Fuel filter and fired right up. time for a quiet woohoo. Will be test driving tonight on the near new budget chinese tyres.....

that was on my watch list, nice deal.
