issue finally resolved, may have been a combination of things, car had non-standard fuel pump which appeared to be tired, a 2.5 bar FPR instead of the haynes listed 3 bar, and the tps was full of sludge from the HG failure.(maybe from the inlet being inverted during the repair?).

I've heard that changing the diff on the m10's is the cheapest way to get more go. To one say out of a std 320i, i am planning to do this to mine (then selling) now i have fiiiiiinaly sorted a running issue caused by a bad tps. Any comments or experience?

Thanks, rotor was full of dust like rest of the car. Brake now better but still not great. Passed WOF tho' ASC was fixed by replacement of the bowden cable, $50 from Coomes Johnson. ( hopefully my last visit to the dealer) "There are no serviceable parts in the Vanos Unit......blah blah blah $$$$$$.

My new e39 (farm boy) has been off the road for 6 months and been used for rounding up stock based on the amount of cowshit in the engine bay (true) needs work for a WOF, most is pretty simple however; The ASC light is also on, not the ABS - appears to be a frayed ASC cable (fingers crossed) but this has not affected the WOF. My indie says he scanned it and got error #38 choke valve. Any experiences fixing ASC? Park Brake - is see this is a common issue/weak point - anyone know the correct proceedure for setting the park brake? Cheers

Bought a HP fuel pressure gauge and hooked it up in line, pressure was around 3 bar to begin with then after 10 mins it drops down to around 2 bar and thats when it plays up. sneaky F*****g fuel pump. Car is stalling - knows its going up for sale once fixed......
-
Not suggesting this is your problem but if it turns out you need a new inline fuel pump let me know. I just got 2 brand new ones. Fingers crossed the service will fix. Also, like me you might get a better response posting M10 queries on here; http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=145

If you have time and alternative transport, get a haynes manual and take the timing cover off and have a look. If is has gone take the head off yourself and decide from there. You might get away with valves and stem seals, or another head complete. Not sure if there are cam/rocker issues to consider but someone here will know. You can't really do any more damage by having a poke around. Farm out the head work etc though. My old volvo has a second hand head that needed 2 valves replaced. Costs were $70 for the valves, $150 for the head gasket set which included the stem seals, $150 cash for the machine shop to hardness/flatness test , clean the head and fit the seals, find the bent valves and replace. The Turbos almost shagged but the motor runs sweet . On an e30 valves are only about $20 each....... But don't buy any parts till you have worked out exactly what you need. http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/catalog/sh...l_pg2.htm#item8 After you've taken it apart, assembly is pretty much the reverse.........

Had a look at an E39 528i tonight, been used as a bit of a farm hack and is rough but trying to decide if its worth cleaning up. I noted the following issues and am wondering how much is involved in fixing, whether they are common items or signs of larger problems; 1 Oil leak from cam cover running down onto exhaust manifold and leaking around front edge 2 Wet power steering hoses and fluid residue around neck of reservior 3 oil leak from oil pan/sump 4 front valence - ms type badly broken and guard liners broken - the whole piece will need replacing 5 Tail pipe badly rusted with holes 6 Oil thin and dirty ( yes i know) 7 engine sounded good starting up but after a drive had what i would call a gentle knock from the bottom end. This surprised me as it is supposed to be a low mileage repower. 8 front windscreen seal is badly perished and crumbling 9 ASC light is on and the button is dead. 10 AC is Not working Drives well except for a shimmy and has failed wof on a steering arm bush. DIY labour rates would apply.

Now parting these out 323i has blown HG 320i has no suspension left

Start with your battery , is it in good condition and fully charged? A low battery will cause some weird symtoms. try hooking up a jump battery and see if that makes any diff. If it runs better with the extra juice it will give you a clue.

Tranzrail can be good for large heavy bits going inter-island if you get a m3 rate. Depends how helpful the sender can be cos they are not a door to door service. I sent an ice slushy machine all boxed up weighed about 150kg's Tauranga to Kaikoura for approx $150. That was from Tga depot to a rail stop in kaikoura. Worth a try if you can find then in the phone book......

these are having the lips machined then off for powder coating Opinions? they were black in the centre with polished lips..... I think they'll look better in a single lighter colour... like silver or white? They'll be going a either a silver e30 or a cirrus blau....
