  1. Can you clarify the suspension/hub setup, have you used e36 struts in the front somehow? how did you det the 5 stud pattern at the back?
  2. see pics, unsure of brand but they are 15x7's with a reasonable dish as per pics.
  3. +1, first charge your battery overnight. also rev it to about 2400 rpm, if the alt has a bad stator leg the voltage will drop with more revs. Check volts at the alt, using the red terminal and an earth too. If there is a difference between that and what you get at the battery there is a fault with the wiring in between. The red lead from the alt to the starter should be in good cond, no broken strands . If they look ugly unfasten and clean or replace cables. Supercheap sell them in different lengths with terminatons, and check the earth connections. Not sure if the e30 ones are self exciting (love that term) but look for a thin white or green field wire with a spade connector. A field wire will trigger the alt to begin charging. To test further you need a multimeter that will read Amps. Or, if you cant be bothered diagnosing it $120 is a good price for a new (?) alternator fitted.
  4. so you got the radiator ok then? The HG has just gone on mine..........
  5. some insurers will make you pay the excess until the other driver admits liability.
  6. Yeah that would be good but I may have a blown head gasket in which case won't need them. I'll confirm tomorrow.
  7. or take each strut to your friendly mechanic with the compressors on and get them to rattle off that nut. 2 second job.
  8. must be in good working order, a set of 4.
  9. Wondering if the injectors are same or can be changed with other e30 models. Keen to get an extra set so i can have then cleaned, new seals fitted then swapped over without car being off the road for a day.
  10. how do you unsubscribe a thread in this thing?
  11. After much googling this appears to be the view i have through the peep hole. link
  12. So how is it used to set timing? centre of the hole at a particular rpm?
  13. Yes part #9, most of the forum sites with info on this engine referred to it as a thermo valve. Ah crap, just ordered the same thing new through a forum sponsor today for quite a bit more. Must be better quality......... Tried to check the timing tonight but am unable to get either of the marks/symbols mentioned in Haynes to show through the peep hole. Only a thin rectangular tab. Do i aim to get this central on the port or is my timing so far off the real marks are not visible?
  14. So i found the distributor cap and rotor were badly corroded so those have been replaced producing a nice improvement. The problem also was and is that the car is very slow to warm up. It took 30 minutes to get up to barely 1/4 on the gauge. All three hoses are hot/warm and so it the top of the radiator. The heater only blows luke warm. I thought to replace the thermostat but it has one those thermovalves instead. Any thoughts ? the car idles fine but throttle response is poor (yeah yeah i know its a 1800 auto thanks) See my wanted to buy listing for a thermovalve is anyone has a good used one.
  15. Wanting a working used or new thermovalve.
  16. Have just done a rear disk conversion on a '1985 318i. drums were warrantable. happy to sell parts cheap if you want.
  17. I got a splitter but thought i would rip the boot
  18. I would start spraying those tie rod nuts with crc now, they can be a real b&$%@
  19. The $400 rule does apply. Part of the govt crack down on parallel imports. Ask the seller to write up the goods a being worth less than $400 a lot will. (not Pelican)
  20. just replaced front crank seal on a 85 318i was $10 at repco. Have fun locking the flywheel...........
  21. Can do, have 3. do you need one with side tabs ?
  22. I have a good m20b20 and a 16 foot boat hull with no motor. The idea of a 6cl fuel injected in-board sounds pretty cool but i know some engines are more suitable than others. Thinking a prop rather than a jet. Any comments? Major issues i guess would be mating it with a suitable gearbox/drive, a heat exchange/cooling system and modifying the electrics/sensors as required. Anyone know what the weight of these engines is minus the trans?
  23. Yep, gonna find out from the certifier first what the criteria are, these have both been registered in NZ previously which i heard makes it easier. Meanwhile there is no harm in collecting parts... I wandered down to pickapart in Tauranga last week and found what would have been a near immaculate FL 320i in Diamond Schartz, mint panels, interior, ms steering wheel, etc It had sustained minor frontal damage only, grille, front of the bonnet etc. The engine was spotless and clearly a well maintained car. Now a bit lighter after my two trips to strip it, he he. Anyone looking for a mint headliner in beige with no sunroof best be quick. I will collect it for someone for a donation to my cause.
