    Clean your intake

F**k me, that's a really interesting observation since you're up in Auckland and i'm down in Wellington 650kms away The answer is yes, it has made an improvement in that the idle is smoother and it makes the engine sound sweeter - but it is in no way a performace enhancer so you won't gain any horsies from it. One possible cause for getting an oily film deposit throughout the intake system was hypothesized by Glenn in that oil can get into the intake system via the TPS which isn't a good thing for the intake system.

Then put it all back together they way you took it off and run the engine (that's what the can says anyway but I wanted to go feel the results ) For best results do all this with a warm engine

    Clean your intake

Next step is to clean out the AFM by spraying and brushing until you're satisfied with the result.

    Clean your intake

With the hose and AFM off (edited: and the engine turned off), place a rag underneath the intake manifold so you don't get the cleaner on your pipes. Hold open the throttle bottle (on the top, don't poke the butterfly) and spray into the intake manifold in bursts until you're happy with what runs out...took a few minutes and a bit of spraying to really clean mine out.

    Clean your intake

After taking off the AFM, remove the intake hose. In the pic i've already cleaned a little of the intake manifold but you can see some of the deposit build up.
  6. When I replaced my convoluted flexible intake hump hose the other day I noticed that my intake manifold and AFM had a bit of a deposit build up so it was time to clean it properly to let that air flow on through nicely. All you need to do this is a flathead screwdriver to release the hose clamps, a spanner to release the AFM, and a can of carburettor cleaner to clean out the intake system. First things firt, remove the AFM so you can clean it and this also makes getting the intake hose off and on easier.

    my ride :)

Top candidate for auto to manual conversion Looking nice, not much you need to do this, auto to manual is your top priority, then tints, and maybe m3 mirrors to round off the shizzle factor
  8. When you pulled the carpet up did you check for any signs of rust, particualrly in up the front around the firewall as that's a great place for rust.Did you actually seal the drain plugs where the rubber stops are??? You shouldn't have done that, IMO.
  9. I don't know what's been done to it but if you carefully read my post (you may have to use your glasses) you will note that $50k has been spent on aftermarket modifcations and they're not interior or bodywork mods. It may well be the 450 figure I heard was a reference to the supercharger, I only said in the vincinity since I don't actually know.At any rate, I don't know where you're from or what you know and believe but $50,000 is an aweful lot of money to spend on a car costing a couple year's salary and $50,000 can get you an aweful lot of top notch modifications...maybe it is b/s, maybe I liking posting b/s, but hey it's easy to just sit back and post figures to come off looking like a twat E: Just curiously anyone, if you stick a supercharger onto a heavily modified M3, what do you think it'll do????
  10. Yes, it was that one, the left rear has RACING DYNAMICS on it with 4 large exhausts protruding sweetly from the bottom He's got some lovely 19" low profiles on that thing and even with road rubber was posting some very very fast lap times

Tidy sweet and neat, just how an E34 should be ...what's with the euro plate photochop...trying to see what it'd look like??? EDIT: BTW, next meet you and Fred should definately come along, your dark shadowlined E34's would look very very very mean on film darting and weaving up through traffic on the motorway
  12. I don't know, just heard from good authority, but it's definayely NA!!
  13. Did someone say E46 M3??? If you went to Manfeild today you would've seen this one, which apparently has had $50k of aftermarket modifications to raise it from 333hp to something in the vincinity of 400-450hp AND it's going away to the states soon to get a supercharger fitted...OMG!!!! At any rate, it's got something ridiculous and it mowed down all the RX7 batmobiles and turbos...just think what the supercharger will do

    Diff for sale

I found that starting from 2nd you could get some wicked starts with one change to third and whamo 100 just whizzed by, but the best part was just hearing the engine rev up so god damned fast - it even impressed Glenn and he's got the twin turbo
  15. Hey cool, they had the M1 on Top Gear, kinda cool how it spawned the M3 and M5 :mosh: The E30 M3 is so legendary :mosh:

FYI, i'm auctioning this on trademe, seems someone wants it for some serious fast 0-100s TradeMe auction
  17. Similar concept to using an electrical fan I guess...would only work if you're altenator can handle the extra power requirements...but I doubt it'll have much effect
  18. See, this is my point, WTF (why the fcuk) can't all the books and ETK's agree on the same name???At any rate, you get what i'm talking about and you should check that yours aren't ripped somewhere... And Gus, I like my power steering, just like I like my working mirrors, accelerator, and my adjustable konis :finger: And mods that alter ppl's posts are pussy's :gay:

    Tyre Placement

Who's going to argue with that??? Exactly my thoughts
  20. Here's the pic, you can see where the urethane is trying to plug the tear which was causing quite a few headaches in terms of rough idle and strange low down acceleration.
  21. I'll take a picture of it. I've been told that the hose splits on most E30's so having a picture and a guide to know what to look for won't go a miss now will it $69 from BMW $tealer ain't too bad either, not like the $180 fora wheel bearing
  22. Right, since i've been playing around with my car recently i've learnt a few names for things that quite frankly I couldn't work out just by looking at it. So if you, like me, don't have a Bently's E30 manual or an electronic guide then you've got to find things out the hard way AND sometimes the book and guide aren't much use anyway...for instance; the rubber hose that goes between the airbox and the intake manifold is called what??? According to the book it is called, funnily enough, the "hose". According to the electronic catalog that the service centres use call it the "hump hose". According to the guy at Shelley's, after I described it to him, it's called the "convoluted hose". So I figure that it should henceforth be called the "convoluted air intake hump hose". Please feel free to give this or any other thingymajig a better name. Cheers.

    Tyre Placement

Being of humble experience when it comes to actually losing traction in my E30 I would be of the same frame of mind as you Grant in assuming that the front is more important than the rear. My front tires are wearing alot faster than my rear, therefore, one would assume that the front is doing more work than the rear which is definately evident through cornering. Unless you were concerned about losing traction from take off and from exiting a corner I fail to see why the rear end would be more important EVEN for a rear wheel drive car. My 2c. Cheers
  24. Haha, I bet the classify Debbie does Dallas as a classic, it was in the video store I pawned it from
  25. Hmmm??? I wonder if that is of any use to me considering all my DVD's are R18
