  1. Hey Everyone, My family are all safe. I was working in Avonside, ran outside once the shaking stopped stepped into the street to find two large gushes of water starting to flood out of the pavement. As I walked around to check on the cracks I could feel the water beneath the asphalt, like a bubble, so weird. It took less than 30min to fill the street with water and flood into the business. We locked up, left the area and then took 1hr to travel home, a trip that normally takes just 15min, picked up my son from his school and finally reached my home which was still standing. We have now got power and a reduced water supply so things are easier. Since I had nowhere to go I put the new engine in my car...which is finished however it seems I snapped the automatic gear shift wire (e28 automatic). I will need to get to work next week I am in the Architectural industry and sure going to be busy now. Any help sorting this out would be appreciated. Cheers Adam. 02102534071 is my number. If anyone needs help or water or a place to charge their phone I am avaliable.

  2. It goes for any situation.. You turn up to someones house and they just started doing the dishes after dinner. You dont sit down you pick up a t towel and start drying. More hands make light work.

Have you thought of holding the next one in Wellington. With enough notice we can organise a group rate on the ferry over.

  3. While I have the engine out this weekend I want to install my air con unit however since I took it out of another car a couple years ago I cant remember exactly how the hoses weave around under the dash. Pictures would be appreciated, some of where the pipes are connected and pass thru the fire wall.

  4. I'm going to have a thorough read through the policy tonight to clear things up but it all sounds like we are going to get screwed over. For the 20 games they have offered us $750. At least they are replacing the Xbox with brand new item.

They dont tend to pay much for low cost items. The idea being people wont make a claim each and every time something is lost/stolen/broken. And your excess is usually more anyway.

  5. e28 engine has more power and torque than the e34 type and will bolt in easier with the mounting holes and manifolds etc

I have spent some time reading up on the b35 swap and it is possible however like you say the mounting positions are not the same. So I would need a cert for a modified one?

The b35 was the stronger engine and has better cooling passages. As Im using this as a daily driven I thought this might make the E34 a better option. Would you agree?

note: e24 will swap straight in and some early e32's, no e34's will.

  6. Its either one or the other. You would need to remove the head and get it crack & hardness checked. The blocks are also known to crack as well

Cheers Guys. I will need to sort out a temp car if i am to pull this engine apart.

Would I be correct in assuming I could possibly get a second hand engine for less hassle than repairing this one. I have a good running m30b25 haha could do a stealth degrade in power but also sound. The engine is so cool and even though it has the leak I do seem to have sorted the overheating, as in it takes alot longer to reach half and does not go close to 3/4 as before. I dont think it has been well looked after in the past. Shame....

  7. 1985 e28 535i m30b34, I believe, not the original engine.

So seems I did not dodge a bullet with my overheating. I have found coolant in the oil... the chocolate milkshake look on the cap and 50mm along the centre of the dip stick. Also a rather noticble amount of steam out of the exhaust, looks worse on a cold day. It is obviously losing coolant, will need to top it up today and thats after a couple weeks since it was full. I can see no oil in the coolant.

How can I test the engine to determine if it is a head gasket or a cracked head?

  8. Hours of fun lying under an e30. On the topic of welding I was advised against welding a cracked sump. According to a welder I talked to about this any residue oil can cause small holes to be blasted into the aluminium once they start the welding. It was for an e28 M30 sump hard to find parts as it is, even though in the end finding an uncracked second hand one was cheaper anyway.

  9. All I am reading is situations that happen in every insurance company. They deal with insurance fraud on a daily bases so you can understand why they are cautious. Also if they gave every young guy with a fast car insurance and didnt ask for a high premiums they wouldnt make any money. And they dont just pay what the panel beaters tells them it costs they arent new to the industry and they want the most for their money. As do any of us. However panel beaters have a fair idea what they would pay.

I have had bad and good experiences with insurance, the best thing to do is shop around it is some times amazing the difference in price.

Also they change policies often so you may notice what once you were covered for now you may not be so double check.

AMI and State are the top companies. State has been good to me when my car was written off, when another had malicious damage. And I just took out a new policy with my new car.

  10. I havent heard of any interim person/group who cold run things while a President was democratically elected?

    The current vice?

The current president has said he will stay on until voting has taken place and will not run for office again. The protestors didntt seem pleased with this.

  11. I really couldnt care where Frank Bunce is or why near forgotten sports players keep getting to comment on such news. Also why do they search around for a new zealanders point of view on local issues??? Idiots they dont need to travel halfway across the world to do that.

However on the story itself.... I find it interesting to see the unfolding events of people over throwing a system that to them isnt all they expected it would be. As for a democratic new zealander to judge their government, it is pointless. They are bigger and can do as they please.. which I guess they arent, more power to the people!!

On the subject of key... Anyone else wondering when we will get a great leader that will actually change New Zealand not just one of these place holders on party strings. I predict never, at least we can vote in a new one in less than 30 years.

  12. Have a look on the Ireland Engineering website, search Tech articles, E30 suspendsion set up, it gives recommendations from street to full race

    www.bmw2002.com

Stage one sounds good to me....

H&R Springs, Blistein shocks, larger sway bars (would a 325i bar be a good upgrade?) new urethane bushings. Need to sort some prices, shopping for parts is fun. :)

  13. 6kg BC goldswound up to 25 clicks.

    What are these??

I have been looking at this aswell.

Obviously there are numerous options on springs and shock combos. However do any of these come in a set? Are H&R designed to go with Billstein etc? Also what is the OEM setup and are these other options better for some reason other than getting a nice ride height... anyone just got new oem?

... if I was to just replace all the bushes with OEM parts not Polyurethane. Do I have to get them pressed in?? I would be burning the old ones out.

Lots of questions haha come on experts input advice. :)
