  1. Hey guys, wondering if anyone's ever tried this before : I'm needing to swap gearbox but my spare has the steel plate linkage whereas what's in the car has aluminum arm. They're both g260s, the casings and bolt patterns look the same, can I swap the rear end of the gearbox casing to change shifter styles as I don't have the steel plate? Any help appreciated

Well, it's all finally road legal, at last and I won't be doing too much to it for a little while now, need a break from workingon it haha. Made the rest of the exhaust up, using what was useable of my old exhaust and various random peices of the e34 system. Would prefer twin all the way back but eh, twin 325 pipes aren't cheap anymore Wired up the electric fan using the temp sensor in side of radiator. Seems to keep everything cool enough. Got new tires, FINALLY sorted fog lights out (came off a dd e30 I've sold now) and its done (for now ish)
  3. Probably ryans, (bmpower?) especially if its that big as rear window decal
  4. When I first tried to sort mine out after getting the car from someone that had it sitting for six years it did this... I just kept booting the clutch pedal with the bleed nipple open for about 5 mins till fluid started coming out the bleed nipple. Sometimes it seems to take a while for fluid to work its way through the system, especially if theres a big dirty airlock. Probably not very professional, but it worked for me...
  5. Just come round again sometime and have a chat and you can make a list out of wha I used haha.

Ok finally sorted out the driveshaft flange, managed to drive it all of two metres back into the garage on no manifolds...YAY! Finally something haha. Finished modifying m52 stainless manifolds, and then foil exhaust wrapped them seeing as the rear one is all of 1cm away from the steering donut. Half did some downpipes, its going to be interesting under there... Still havent sorted those wires or the electric fan. I will probably take it around the block tomorrow on downpipes only just for kicks. Turns out my battery is now FUBAR as well, lets off a sulfur smell, and one of the cell sets is black + corroded. Woo...More money haha.

Jeez, another six weeks of my life wasted... Ok finally sourced a driveshaft...turns out I have the wider flange on the g260 - doh. the other one i had doesnt fit due to shaft size differences. doh. Have finished 99% of engine loom wiring, made a box for ecu, mounts for relays etc, attached the fan to the radiator, clamped all the hoses up. Have sorted out gear shift linkages etc etc. All thats left is find the right output flange for the g260, put the driveshaft in. Theres 2 more wires for the engine (up under the dash - prefacelift. Also need to wire up the fan to the thermoswitch in the radiator. Then, just need to weld up my exhaust and it should be done. Probably will take me another 6 weeks due to losing motivation every time something goes wrong, which is every time I try to work on it haha. Will post photos of progress at some point...
  8. Edited my retarded angry post sorry, should be more readable now. Here is a photo of the larger one (g260) and the smaller one (G240). Note the size difference between the actual hole for the output shaft is completely different... or not, i cant seem to attach photos anymore, it just has a fit about it...
  9. Ok so I have a g260, turns out the driveshaft I got has a different output flange on it. I thought id be able to take the one off the old m10s g240 and put it on, but the g240 output shaft is at least half the size of the g260s. What is going on? how can I solve this problem, preferably without pulling the engine to swap the damn gearbox, this thing is really starting to do my head in now
  10. Hey guys need to change my output flange, my 260 must have come out of something other than an e30 as the flange too wide for any of my guibos. Or possibly e30s had a couple of different sizes, not sure never had a reason to learn it till now Any one in palmy have the socket I can borrow or buy? From memory it's a 30mm deep socket with a thin wall? Box of beer or whatnot? Sorted the socket out, now i need an output flange for a 260 that is the smaller 78mm BCD, but I dont know if one of those will fit on the output flange, as it is 3 times the size of my m10's g240 output shaft...
  11. Yeah westy, It is the old ravens down, about 18 months ago, seems to be some sort of business being run out of the front, they didn't mind us being there though. I'm always happy to go along with new folk, and so is my partner in crime (urbanexplorers) (me and him now working on Urbex.co.nz), all over the north island a lot of the time too, do especially you Wellington guys hit us up
  12. Meh, thought id just post a few shots up here. The old hospital in Hawera, taken a while ago now, the bit at the end of the hall is now all demolished, possibly/probably more... This is the old furnace for a steam powered native timber sawmill The e30 out the back of an old fertiliser store in wanganui Hope these dont come out too large in the thread... it wouldnt let me upload anything sorry.
  13. Hi again guys, I'm still looking for a 6cyl driveshaft, and I'm willing to pay a bit of a premium for one seeing as its apart from a conversion, or, what's a conversion kit worth these days? Or does anyone know if there's some other random models driveshaft that'll also work? Cheers, Bradd
  14. Yeah, the buildings are all pretty unstable in CHCH, but theres heaps to explore if youre keen! Theres a couple shots on here that were taken about 2 weeks before the second major quake: Heathcote Maltworks Which is now apparently finally been demolished, awesome place to explore...
  15. Hey, need one of the big 8 pin main relays, 318i 86 preface lift, with the little pcb in it; my pcb is snapped. Cheers. Also could do with an ignition barell too possibly.
  16. Urbex.co.nz is one, couple links to other nz sites... I also do this sorta thing a bit haha...

Alright, so im getting there slowly... Went and bought oil for the engine and fuel for the new tank. Decided I couldnt be bothered fully checking over the wiring harness I made up semi-drunk, and plugged it all in, minus ECU. Turned key on, starter cranked over fine, everything else seemed to work, apart from I couldnt hear the fuel pump going, realised its part of the ECU's job. Decided to plug in the ECU and tried cranking it, bit of popping and burbling then died. Realised id forgotten to attach the MAF to the rubber boot. Did so. Crank crank crank... Pretty sure the whole neighbourhood would have heard it fire up, revved it a couple times then turned it off. At least she runs. Whats left : Get a drivebelt suitable for the job Attach fan to car or radiator Wire said fan connect radiator + fill/bleed tidy all the dirty wiring, some sort of custom/oem looking jobby for ECU (e34 loom ) modify m52 SS headers + make up dowpipes sort out gearshift mechanism, then driveshaft + exhaust install aaaand other stuff ive probably forgotten.
  18. Therein lies my main problem that I don't have access to a tig, and the engineering places round here don't seem to want to know haha. I do have some extremely rungle stop gap solution ideas formulating...

    Random e30 parts

Edited again, make an offer on the stuff, I need money/space in my garage. My parts needed list has dwindled majorly
  20. I've be trying to sell one for a while, 250 odd for gearbox clutch flywheel etc. clutch seemed ok, slipped a little when going hard but the box itself seemed ok. In palmy though
  21. Ok so I am doing the old e30m50 swap, can't seem to source a g260 shift linkage so Im thinking just shortening And putting a twist on the one I do have (m10 manual) but I have been told this is apparently illegal to do? Is this true? And also, seeing as its some sort of aluminium alloy, does it take a weld easy enough or does it need to be tigged?
  22. Yeah I'm having a bitch of a time even with m52 stainless manifolds, the rear half collides with the steering coupler right where everything joins and exhaust shops round here don't even want to try bending it, and I have no bending gear for that sort of thing. How did you other guys with m52 manifolds sort it?
  23. Hey, now I need a g260 facelift style shifter and associated linkages, lest I chop and shorten the m10 g240 I have at the moment

    e28 gearbox

Hey, thanks for that info you gave, took another look at the old auto off my old e30, 3bolt flange, mechanical kickdown, no electronics to speak of, so sounds like it should be the go using the old torque converter? ( I tried to convince her to manual it but she wouldn't go for it )
  25. Hi guys, need a set of the exhaust manifolds off an m52, either steel or stainless, just not anything cast. Cheers
