BMW M & JCW Mini Owner's driver training day - with Mike Eady
mrad01 replied to M3_Power's topic in General Discussion
Hey, I've got a 335 Motorsport - it isn't a M3 (hehe, but goes like one...) am I excluded? -
add 3 passengers and see how you go....
-
In the Z4 and 130i I was up to about 190kmh (but we really had to stay in line with the lead driver) The M3 was up to 210. I think the Z4 and 130 could go higher. When we went on the hotlap in the M3 with Mike, we clocked 245...not bad for a production car with 4 people in it!!!
-
Oh, that's why the 1-series was in the selection of cars I guess - Mike took our training yesterday... Like the e30 series - a 130i series would be just awesome!
-
Fair enough! But they tell you exactly what you are doing when you get there!!! I'm keen to do it again one day...

Hi all, just got back from a BMW track day at Pukekohe (invited by Clint at Jerry Clayton BMW - thanks) Anyway, got to drive a 123d, 130i, Z4 and M3 Coupe V8. I would have to say that apart from M3 - the 130i was a standout machine! If you haven't done it, it is well worth it. First we had to do a braking test - hauling down from 60KMH in about 10metres of space - then 70KMH in a bit more. Next, we did about 20 laps in the cars swapping cars and drivers every 2 laps, then finally, a slalom challenge. The 1-series chassis was awesome around the track - I would love to know if anyone has seen/building a race car around the 1-series?? I think it has potential!
-
Note to self: "Never let Penry test drive any cars..."
-
Na, I'm not normal. 2m tall. Front seat is all the way back.
-
Don't mind if I do.....
-
I better bring both BMs then..... What date?
-
I just checked the user manual (yes, it still has the originals - and full service records...) The LSD is in the manual for this car. Still, a "real world" test is required to know for sure I think....
-
woohoo!! Well, realoem lists this car as having a LSD unit.... I'll have to find a roundabout on a rainy day to know for real.... I guess most people know this, but I just finished doing oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs and replaced the cracked rubber boot between the AFM and manifold.... Geez, whole new engine. Was running a bit rough - now runs MINT!!!!
-
I'll try the VIN on realoem and see.... All I know is that the final drive seems bloody tall....1st gear is tall...
-
Well, easy. The 335 is a monster to drive. High tech, fast (hehe, esp with all the mods I've done...shiiiiite!!!!) BUT. I'm a real car nut. I love to drive. The e30 is a wicked car to drive. The balance, handling and overall drive is outstanding. So, while I could have bought e36/e46 or whatever I wanted - the e30 (to me) is the start of the 3-series magic... Lastly, I'm a spannerhead. I love to work on machines. (You should see my mountain bikes...sheesh) There is nothing like fixing, servicing and repairing stuff (for me anyway) Fun!
-
Yeah, I want to keep it looking the same - but a few cosmetic updates wouldn't go amiss.... IS lip? tech1 spoiler? Pics? Where to buy from? How much?
-
I have no clue - it isn't a mtech (well, nothing on the docs say it is) Anyone know what NZ dealers were doing with model configs in 1990? ;-p

I'm quite keen on the N/A route - I have a (fairly) fast turbo car already ;-) So, there are quite a few facelift 320 coupes around - but not so many 325s... (Well, I'm not looking for a minta - something to do up...)
-
Cool, I have done a ton of research and narrowed it down to a M20 based E30 coupe, and then build up from there... In the planning stages now!!
-
Sounds like the Mtec is the way to go... I don't mind spending money to get what I want. (within reason) I better go and learn everything I can about those models and then try to find one.... (in bad condition of course!) Sweet, thanks for the tips!
