Apple have killed and spawned a few things in their history - including their own products!! They may not do it single handedly, but they are usually the tipping point for something to grow. Things like Mouse, GUI, SCSI, Laser printing, Digital Cameras, PDAs, Modern laptop design, USB, iPod, iPhone, iPad......the list goes on. Many of these items were around before Apple used them - but they certainly became mainstream after Apple adopted them! Jobs says the reason why they have to think this way is because their R&D team doesn't have the huge budgets to back every horse - they have to pick one horse and make it succeed because they actually don't have a plan B. I wouldn't want to be in the computer industry without Apple's influence.

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before the "don't speed and you won't get a ticket" brigade kick in - this highlights what the police just won't see. I've been to the BMW driver training a few times and I recommend it to ANY level of driver. It makes you aware of how the car behaves in extreme circumstances and could make a major difference to how you react when something out of your control happens. Its experience, training and sleep which are the major factors. Having said that, speed probably amplifies a situation where someone with none of the above gets into trouble. Since the police idea of "low tolerance this weekend" didn't return the results they told us they would, maybe we should hand this issue over to the AA or some other body to oversee? I don't like hearing about deaths - but the police "actions" of ticketing everyone who drives over the limit (no matter how small) clearly DOESN'T work.

No one disagrees with you. So what has this thread been about? Simple. Police resources are so stretched that if someone walks up to you and steals your car, the police will get to it in a few days. Maybe they will never do anything about it. Yet, it appears that when there is money to be made, they are out in force.

....and bad emissions and weight. I owned a 335i for 3 years - which is a 3.0 twin turbo I6. Brilliant fuel economy, V8 killing performance and great handling.... ...then I sold it and bought a V8, because I realised I wasn't a hippie.

So now the road toll is 5. Does this "speed focus" give drivers a false sense of what is killing NZers on the road? Lets hope there are no more.

Maybe you don't read the news. Cops have put a 4km tolerance on speed limits and were aiming for zero deaths to prove that speed is the reason why we have these deaths. If you read what I am saying and not what you think I'm saying, you will see that I support driver education rather than this 100% effort on speeders.

Sure, you speed, you get a ticket. Not what i was talking about... It's more that there is a shortage of cops to investigate actual crime, yet there are plenty out collecting money. They have failed anyway, we have two dead already. Very sad. The message the cops send out is that you are safe if you drive slowly, rather than promote driver education. A crap driver driving slowly is still a crap driver.

I HATE traffic cops - total waste of oxygen. When I hear of mates getting burgled and being told they have to wait 3 days for an investigator because of "lack of resources" - these radar gun jockeys piss me off. I guess they need to capture some revenue before the Xmas break so they have cash for bonuses. If it wasn't about revenue, then get rid of the $$ fines and just have demerit points! Anyway, was out all morning and didn't see one of these losers anywhere. I saw a sign saying "more police around this weekend". Haven't seen any.

Yep, was a good day. I warped my front discs and had to shoot back into Auckland to get a new set which the track mechanics swapped over in 20 mins. Back on track for the afternoon session. *happy*

I've been in an X5 and even a 750i around Pukekohe - they held up better than you would expect. You are better to track the car WITH warranty than without! Give it a go!
