Hey guys, I was driving the E46 yesterday and noticed that when at idle the engine will occasionally drop its revs really low and then stall. It doesn't happen all the time just every so often regardless whether the engine is hot or cold. It stalled twice this morning on a trip from Remuera to Herne Bay which is probably only 15km in distance. I will probably take the car into Jerry Clayton BMW later today to be scanned and sorted out but just wanting to know what your opinions are on what the fault could be... The engine is a M43TUB19. Cheers fellas.

Looks quite good mate. Good to see someone is putting in all the prep work to make the results flawless, too many people skimp on prep, even sometimes I do..

White E30 coupe on some pretty crazy dished wheels which I presume are some really mint 16 or 17" RS' with german 'd' plates in Merivale, Christchurch yesterday opposite Ivy on Aikmans Road. Pretty sure someone on here used to own it ages ago, think the guys name was Chris?

Wow dude thats crazy, that would make me wanna be sick watching someone steal my own car. This has just prompted me to order a GPS tracking unit for the E39... Not that anyone would want to steal it but you never know what someone might want to steal. Clearly the person who stole your car is an absolute idiot to steal such a distinctive car! They would have to strip it down pretty quick so no one will notice it. I hope you had the rusted bonnet on, that would stick out well and I doubt they would go to the trouble of finding a black bonnet to swap over. I hope you get your car back, hopefully without too much damage! This reminds me of when I got car jacked at the petrol station 200m from my house at BP in Herne Bay. Thieves are idiots.

Silver E46 coupe with what appeared to be BBS RS wheels caught my eye as I was strolling down the road in Fendalton, CHCH. This makes me want one

Theres a place on Barrys Point Road in Takapuna next to the Mobil station that laser cut them but I guess you can ring your local key place

Just pay the $500 to get the insurance to cover it. Easy. Then track down the people that did it and do what I did, get revenge on their car. Someone at the mall backed into the front of my car and stupidly left his car crunched into mine so I came back and left him a note and some nice new speed stripes with my key...

If you actually want it to work in your car, if its chipped its about $390 from the BMW dealer

I gave the disconnecting the batter a go with the gen key inside in my room and the new key still started it and I ran it for a few mins to make sure. So I guess someone has had a play with my car at some point, no biggy. Alarm time then...

I think 7500k would be more appealing in the market and be less likely to get flack from the 5-0. Although the bluer light cast does give the car a bit more of a modern look. Ideally with cars the idea for headlights is to mimic day light for the best visibility, daylight brightness is around 5000k - 6500k. So I don't think using 7500k you wouldn't drastically loose night time visibility or anything. Just to to put a disclaimer on the goods when you sell to people to let them know that they are not 100% legal in all applications. Even though generally speaking HID lights are illegal in cars but a lot of cars like my own can take HID bulbs etc and are perfectly legal. So I don't think everyone should jump down his throat. There getting to be so much negativity around here these days. If you don't have anything constructive to say, chances are no one cares what you think. Good luck with the lights mate!

I will give this a go also, thanks Glenn

I might give this a go now... Stay tuned Yeah I am begining to think it maybe have been played with by a previous owner or what ever, I was looking through old history I have of the car I wouldnt be suprised if it was a stolen and recovered car. I dont think it bothers me at all because if someone wants to steal my car they will do it one way or another so im not concerned at all was more curious as to how a non chipped key could have started it... Very strange

All you get on a motorsport optioned E46 is the bodykit, wheels and probably sports seats. Personally I would spend the extra and get the msport one, they just look better, nicer seats, nicer and usually bigger wheels. Well worth the extra $1000 - $2000 otherwise you will get the other one and only wish you got the better one... Thats just me though
-
Yep thats the site I got them from. I mean they are so cheap and free shipping so why not? I've just ordered a few for Mums and my sisters BMW's, just as a spare to get into the car they are great and in my case they are super great since I can now confirm I can drive my car around with the new key. As for the insides I would say they are only any good if your old key blade or casing is buggered and just swap the insides from the old key into the new casing..
-
Its pretty strange. I will try it again in a minute when I leave to go do a few things. I think I will keep the other key in my wallet just in case though.. Im pretty sure I wont have any problems though but we'll see. Perhaps it might be time to get an alarm anyway...

The key itself was some rediculously cheap price like $6 US and then $24 to have it laser cut... It is exactly the same as this or like any other diamond shape BMW key only it is empty inside.
-
Thanks Josh, good information! Yeah I have driven the car with the new key but I had the other key hanging next to it but I had the other key in my room and I backed the car out of the driveway before with the new key and went fine. Tomorrow I'll take it for a drive just with the new key and see what happens. I would prob say something has been disabled which is kinda weird but I guess isnt much of an issue..
-
I always thought the plastic wallet key was just a key you use so you can get into the car but not actually drive it?

I got the bulbs off some obscure site I will try find the name of it later... They look pretty good, I also added in LED fog light bulbs (not as asian as it sounds!) Here are some pictures. I hate yellow lights.
