  1. Re: leather seats. I have black full leather, and love it. I have not noticed the 'hot seat' syndrome at all. One thing I did found early on thou, was if you use crappy leather cleaner/conditioner, and wear say swimming shorts, you can slide around a bit. To fix this, use the good stuff, that you buff off and just leaves it looking great, not slippery and super shinny looking. Black car on black leather is pure sex.

    Engine Bay

You may have some generic wiring loom, and those unused are basically, unused. If the car is running ok -- you shouldn't have a problem. I'm sure i've seen loose connector blocks under my bonnet as well.

    Heads up

I've been using TB for ages now. Excellent programe and yes, it's a hell of alot more secure that outlook. If you need a calander use SUNBIRD, it's under their products page. Been using Sunbird, TB and FF for a long time together, never had any problems nor can I complain about the product.

    Guard flaring :D

Most people will be, at the start including me, replying to your 'slightly flaring' comment. Now we see what you want to do. Plasma cut and weld on some bad ass flares is your only real option. Not sure what flares myself, but a good fabricator could make you some to your specs. That would be a nice touch.

If you are looking at only 'slightly' flaring - just get them rolled.

    Dizzy timing

As someone winds the car over, just turn the dizzy either way until it fires up -- that's if you have set it up ( cam timing and dizzy timing ) correctly.Yeah - then use the timing light to finalise the timing. Also - as the car is being wound over, have the timing light running and look at your timing marks - this will show you if you are within cooey of being setup correctly. Just double check you have TDC, and firing on no1 and your rotor is pointing to spark plug lead No1.... or within the turning range of your dizzy ( center of turning range is best ) It's incredably easy to time an engine one tooth out, been done a million times.

    Dizzy timing

What have you done? Changed points and condensor? Have you gapped the points correctly? Rotor seated properly? Did you put your plug leads back on correctly ( that would cause nice big misfires ) Firing order should be 1 3 4 2 for your motor.

This may help. http://www.picture-this-graphics.com/engine_timing.html ( posted in another thread here on "removing a crank pully", or something like that )

    My e36 - pics finally

Brent - everything you want is on this pagehttp://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/bmw.html Damn - this thing sucks up bugs as a daily driver - and has a HUGE stone chip on the bonnet now. This car is going to be so ugly when I am done with it. Where do you get that 3M tape? Have to clean all this sh*t off for the meet tommorow now hah OMG - what a mess. That would drive me insane just knowing that sh*t was on my car. Where the hell you been driving? Bummer on the stone chip - ditto that driving me insane as well

    Nasty

That was just down the road from me. I have a shop on Neilson St, and what a bloody hassle is was running around, getting back into Neilson St going about my daily business. Every time I had to come back to the shop, I had to go through cops and validate my reasons. As I understand it, he stole the vechile and it's one less thief in this world. Good riddance. Traffic seems to be coming up Neilson St just now at 5:15... busy as, might have a few beers and wait till the traffic 'dies' down.
  16. Right here - and recommended every year by alot of people. That is if you use aircon ALOT. http://www.logun.org/microfilter.htm Sticky that page?
  17. Sweet. Like I said, i'm on the beach just about every saturday, even last saturday. Quite rough, windy as, big swells but a sh*t load of fun actually. I have a SOT ( sit on top ) kayak that I scored off trademe, new. Bloody unsinkable. If you are confident in the boat, it makes the paddle so much better. Fergy Kayaks rent them out, could paddle over there and meet up if anyone is keen to try one out. Just post up here if you are keen or txt me vod 522127. Ph is always on me, even in the boat. Hell, if you are on the beach during any saturday, say between 11am and 3 or 4pm, txt away 'cos I won't be far away and you can jump in and have a go.
  18. Hmmm... good topic and relavent to me right now. I'm looking at selling my iS and getting a Z3. Wife and I were discussing about the roof being cut or what ever. End of the day -- that's what insurance is for. I guess if you expect that it WILL happen one day, it wont be so 'gut wrenching' when it does. Not a very good attitude, but it's better than thinking the world is a perfect place and then getting all uptight about a canvas roof.
  19. What does the oil on your dipstick look like? Have you drained the oil or just woke up and thought you'd pop off the cap and have a look at it? Those pics are hard to tell from -- looks like rust on my laptop monitor, but I doubt that unless you've had a head gasket problem in the past.
  20. I Kayak almost every saturday and some Sundays as well for about 3 - 4 hours. Launch from Kohi beach and go perving at Mission bay beach, St. Heliers beach, and just go where ever I feel like it really. Watch the big and small boats racing around and general fun. Looking at starting fishing and maybe snorkling as well from the Kayak. Good exercise, get some fresh air etc. If anyone has one and wants to get out, lets make a time to have a paddle around. ???
  21. Doing it yourself almost always works out cheaper, if you do it properly that is. For example, if I send out a ram to be recoed to a hydraulic specialist shop, it's always about $300 - $350-00. If I go to Seal Imports and get the seals, strip clean and reassemble it myself, it costs me about $40-00 in parts. Big differance eh. Seal Imports don't to rotary seals come to think of it, just power seals and o-rings. Saeco or precision bearings might be a better bet. There are metal sprayers out there that can rebuild almost anything for a very decent price. A second hand one complete will be less hassle -- especially if the shaft is completly knackered, needs rebuilding and re croming. Price it all up and go from there.
  22. What about getting it re surfaced if you can't locate one? What finish is the shaft?
  23. Timing marks should be on the pully or on the flywheel ( little access hole on gearbox housing ) Have never heard of having to take off the pully to set the the engine to TDC, on any car. The guys here with 320's will know exactly where it is, as I have different engine to you. I assume the head is back on, so: Get a screw driver or something longish and stick it in no1 spark plug hole. Wind the motor over by hand until you feel the piston come up and just stop. Thats TDC for no1. Make sure you lift the screwdriver up with the piston coming up, as it could 'jam' on the upstroke. Make sure your rotor is pointing at no1 spark plug lead on the cap, if not, keep going until it is. Then look at crank pully or little acces hole on gearbox housing by flywheel for some timing marks. When you find them, get some twink and mark each one. This makes using the timing light to see them a million times easier. If you need to get the crank pully off, use a pully kit. OK: here is a link off google I just found: http://www.picture-this-graphics.com/engine_timing.html Check it out.
  24. There is a tool available ( i used it many many years ago ) that allows you to attach the old timing chain to the new one. Then you just turn over the engine until the new chain has been 'wound on' then link that new chain together. All you need to do is remove the RC and other bits needed to access the top of the cam pully, wind the engine over until you find the chain link, attach the new chain to the old and wind away ( BY HAND! )..... so easy. No need to shag around with tensioners etc, the tool is a briliant invention. Haven't tried it on a BMW, but the principle is still the same. It looks like three wheels, two roll on the chain and the other is spoked for the chain ( if I remember right )
