  1. Update.

Have found a Genuine ACS front lip for it, will be taking it in to the plastic welders next week to be repaired, and then it will be off to the paint shop to be painted, along with the bonnet and front bumper. Have fitted a Msport three spoke steering wheel with volume controls etc, and have accumulated most parts and tools i need to do the vanos and cooling system. Fixed a rattle in the front brake disc shield and a rattle in one of the rear calipers.

My Monitor has gone south again, so will have to pull the headunit and open it up again and see what i can do for a more permanent fix. I also intend to add an Aux in port via the redundant tape deck when i'm in there. Getting sick of newstalk ZB.

Unlikely to get anything mechanical done till some time in march, but can look at doing a DIY if anyone is keen. Though i'm not so good at taking pics. Can try though!

  2. why not both? supercharge AND turbocharge. let the super take care of the first 2krpm and the turbo do the balance.

Only worthwhile with a roots or twin screw. Eaton M112 as mentioned above for example. But then, you would be unlikely to need to twincharge with one of those, unless you were the type that really got off on solving complex problems and finding innovate solutions.

Jason has the right idea. Dirty great truck turbo sitting where the airbox normally is on an M6x. Pipework would be a challenge though.

  3. As for un killable - killed 3 Subarus in 4 years (all expensive turbo models) E36 has taken everything I have thrown at it over the last 10 years and never fails to impress.

No supposed: cooling system problems , chassis failures, electrical failures or nasty handling surprises or brakes not up to the job which was a real issue on the Subarus.

Subarus are easy to kill, but conversely they are easy to keep alive as well. Like any car, the mantra is MAINTAIN, MAINTAIN, MAINTAIN. oil changes every 5k, oil+filter every 10k. The brakes on the povo pack turbo models are average (WRX.GTB/RSB) etc, but are easily upgradeable to sti units which are significantly better. However, I had standard calipers and discs on my RSB, and paired with a set of bendix ultimates and a master cylinder brace, the thing would stop on a dime. Provided the brakes were hot, that is.
