Probably the only minus with the magic 100k perception is resale because so many of the buying public are locked into it-abetted in my experience by dealers who reinforce it. The 100k thing was around long before the import thing started-& then it was miles!!! As already mentioned a well maintained quality car should be fine for 300k or more. And if you keep your cars for long periods it gets to be academic & your loss when you do sell is relatively small because you pay less when you buy. So thanks to the suckers who only buy low mileage -they are why I dont have to pay a lot for the cars I like!!!!

If you search maintainence u should find trans oil info in a post from glen-Botany Motor Works-maybe engine oils as well.SEARCH e39 trans!

I want to get a service on my 540's trans.My regular mechanic hasnt done one -is this a problem & if so does anyone know where in Hawkes Bay other than the dealers I could get it done. I have plenty of mechanic mates but I understand there are a few pitfalls for the uninitiated.

Hi,did you buy this recently ex trademe-did it maybe belong to a real estate guy.If so,looked like a good clean buy-nice car. Is it a 95? Dont think theres an M-Sport but there was a genuine schnitzer on trademe a while back-there are a few of these around.Beware tho at least one on trademe lately wasnt "genuine"-still nice tho! Congratulations mate -I think the 7's are the coolest cars around-Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The e39 article just posted from BMW mag states that e39 engines built prior to feb 98 had the nikasil linings but other sites I've read state that Bmw changed to Alusil in 96 & that the M62 engines are alusil. I'm not sure I want to know the answer but if anyone knows it would be appreciated.
