Got no idea where though!! Seems to settle to an idle now most the time though, sometimes hunts like 2 or 3 times, then settles but generally settles... And it idles at 1000rpm which im sure is probably too high, but not gonna mess with it now haha

Mine did this when the rocker-cover breather wasnt attached, are all the hoses secure? In good condition?

Yup, thats exactly it!! Haha im not having much luck with all the little issues like that at the moment Almost got the hunting to stop... i think... As for the exhaust leak... still there, the manifold has one hex-nut in it grrrr (i dont have hex sockets, or hex-keys big enough haha). But its better now, tightened up the bolts and it seems to only leak around 6 and not 1 anymore

Hmm and it gets weird... So it seems i did the entire last round of the Intermarque sprints with no vacuum advance, which i thought could possibly be the cause of my hunting issues (asked a bout in quick questions). But it still hunts. Replaced all the ICV hoses with my old ones, attached the vacuum advance on the distributor, and it runs considerably better now under acceleration but sometimes at idle it will still hunt. Its only sometimes, which i find quite peculiar, i have just tightened all the hose clamps on the vacuum lines, so heres hoping it goes away....

Definitely the water (wax-valve?) type. Its a very early motor, complete with square fuse-box plug . Might have to have a look at that if the manifold swap doesnt help me...

Ok so a few people have mentioned maybe the ICV. My haynes manual only shows the location for the one on an M40 So where would i find it on a PFL L-Jetronic M20B20?

Oli and I have tried looking for leaks everywhere, even gave it a good spray with CRC (the only aerosol i had available) to try and make a leak show, but nothing... Its mostly just started since i fixed a massive vacuum leak (rocker cover breather had come off). I definitely do have a massive exhaust leak out the manifold though, so hopefully that is causing it and it'll all go away before monday....

Quick tip, unbolting the slave cylinder means you dont need to bleed it later... However mine got destroyed in the process, so if you do this be very careful around the clutch pedal!!

Ok my turn then. Is it possible to fix a faulty washer splitter thing (in the hose, splits left from right) Left washer works, right side of the splitter squirts out a hole onto my engine! Also, would a leaking exhaust manifold be likely to cause the engine to hunt at idle when its warm? Between 950ish and 1300-1500ish revs, so pretty bad! Cheers Paul

I can help you here, i did this about a month ago. First tip for ya, Dont even bother trying to remove the gearbox from the engine in the car Ask more specific questions though, and go and buy yourself a Haynes manual... edit: Nathan beat me to it!

this is oli here.. allans car did this before we got rid of the m20, he used to get stuck in all sorts of places.... never figured it out though, but make sure that you injector relay is not sticking sometimes, and just check earths and the common things like that.

This entirely depends on the quality of the car in the first place. For example my subaru, after 230,000kms has got no rattles inside whatsover, however mums corolla, purchased at 50,000kms already had rattles everywhere. But thats why toyotas are so cheap
