  1. Two new problems popped up today (Yipee!..) - When the trans dips in Revs, and then you plant your foot, takes about 2 seconds before the car reacts. Car was happily hitting 140km + once it got going though. No sounds etc. Seems to only be affected at slow acceleration. (NOTE: Not on public road, I am lucky enough to have my own private tar seal 2km track I use) - Windscreen wipers would pause mid wipe, and then work when they wanted too. I looked pretty fly driving down the street with my hand out trying to get the rain off haha. What would cause such a delay in reaction..
  2. Exactly what I thought, Plus I am rather enjoying the challenge it's bringing with it
  3. Cheers for that Do you remember which workshop it was? I think it's my luck.. I tend to have everything go wrong with cars, all at once. Same thing happened with the E38 haha. In about the space of a month fuel pump went, starter motor went, bushes needed to be replaced, rotors warped so needed to be done, and then someone smashed the front and back bumper.. yes, all in the space of a month! So far the list for this car goes: Radiator Flush Trans Flush Ignition Switch Replacement/GM replacement (Whichever one fixes issue, with my luck, will need to do both!) And then I have had the fuel pump and cam sensor done. Only owned it Monday..
  4. Yuss, I am not alone on this haha.
  5. Thank God I am not hearing things.. I had a few people convinced I was on something haha
  6. Was just about to comment on here and say I've sussed out my own question. I think a trans flush and trans oil will sort this problem. Just had a quick buzz with someone who has similar and solved all his issues. Again, dumb question, approx cost I am looking at?
  7. Forgot to add in: The horn doesn't work unless Nav/Radio working
  8. For the first few drives I was convinced it was something in the engine.. I was also sure it was coming from the left hand side. But then I hopped in the passengers seat, took it for a drive and I could hear it on the right side. And then I sat in the backseat, and I could hear it in the middle. For a while, since nobody else could hear it, I honestly thought I was going mad, so I left it. But it's only getting louder, and finally, it got loud enough to catch in on camera, Yes, I am finally deemed 'sane'! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwSn3T-dU1Q You can hear it come in the vid around the 3sec-6sec mark, it then goes away for a short bit and returns. Further details: - Grinding/Scraping sound coming from what seems to be transmission - Only happens with acceleration (generally slow, not pedal slamming type of acc) - Comes in at around 1500/2000 revs and only at those points OR around the 50/60km mark (which is when I hear it most around time) - The car does do slight little dips in revs when the sound comes on - Transmission is still doing clean clean changes, but it becomes severe when you ask it to hop up a hill... You will need to turn video right up/Head phones in to hear it - comes on and off throughout.
  9. Nope, Will be on the list of things to check. My list is growing...
  10. Battery Holds charge really well. Check the other thread, I accidently (don't know how) duplicated this post :/
  11. There is a brand new one on Ebay for around $50/60 including shipping... Now comes another topic, how safe is it buying overseas.. Hmm
  12. That's exactly what I am thinking! Cheaper than trying GM, so I think I will go that option first, and easy enough DIY if I'm up to it
  13. Cheers, That's a bit cheaper!
  14. Where should I start the list of issues.. This car is about as temperamental as a teenage girl, Guess it's showing it's age. There is a fault code that came back - Cable Clamp R on GM3 (No idea) So thought the General Module unit was responsible for the many hiccups it keeps having with the OBC and other things.. So, here is the list of issues, sounds like it could be ignition switch related too - if I'm thinking terminal R is related with the Clamp R and terminal R being Ignition switch related, Unsure. - No Nav, TV, CD, Radio, it does very rarely work once the car is warm and making some funky sounds on the left hand side by glove box. (it just sits there on the main selection screen, not black) - Steering Wheel adjustment - works when it wants too - Visor lights - Work when it wants too - Cruise Control - no luck unless the Nav/Radio system work, then it works. - Interior Lights flicker on and off while driving - sometimes - Airbag light, very dim flicker - Dash controls (Range, Limit, Consumption) work when Nav/Radio work - Back Blind - Works when Nav/Radio Work Also a slight mild ticking vibration when the car ignition is on, on the gear shift... So everytime I switch on car, just the basics works, Electric Seats, Air Con, Indicators, Headlights and so on. I have never had any problems with the locking of the car, even without having to stick the key in the door. Once you have been driving for over 30 minutes and the car is nice and toasty, you might just be in luck for her to decide to give you some music and all your controls back, and just before that happens, the air bag light flicks on, goes off and waalaa, everything works 100%! So, anybody got any idea.. Would it be worth looking into Ignition Switch?

  16. Thanks for that, good to have further insight. I'm a paranoid soul, so like the thought of her running cooler than warmer lol

    Mobile phone advice

Had the works of phones, Samsung, Iphone, Xperia.. I am now finally settled with an Iphone 5c. I paid $800 for the 32GB at parallel import, best thing I did. I used to have a Iphone 4s and found that great too. Samsung S3 had problems always, and was actually really slow, and I can't stand slow, Hence having at least Quad core in all my devices.. Xperia was great, but again, just got outdated and became slow (compared) Up to you, but she will like the Iphone... I enjoy the 5c, needed plastic as I drop my phone from some pretty rough heights and didn't want it sporting dents like the 4s. I have dropped it from 3m's onto road, and it's still going at 100%
  18. Figured, prices I were looking at in USA were around $400+
  19. Any idea on cost of New radiator? Plenty of prices around, but not in Nz. Just want to pop it into my Bmw Budget
  20. Cheers for that, It is a double axle trailer, and due to the fact I am transporting living animals (horses) I won't be driving at peak our/traffic or hectically fast, more in the 'Nana' style of things. At this stage the weight won't go over 1200kg as I am just towing one horse around. Best suggested idea for preventing trans heating up quite badly? Mine is so far running at a good temp On that note, I won't be towing anything until I have my cooling system sorted.
  21. Radiator is a bit gunky, looks to have possibly had an additive added in... So a flush will do it good, and pretty much doing all test and trials on everything so far, so if that doesn't help, move onto the next thing that could affect it. So far it's been a good plan of action Will keep that in mind though, thanks
  22. Cars at home (Yay) still not 100% but SO SO much better. As per the usual, Ray was great and it is so much smoother, idles perfect and not being stupid. His advice and directions were spot on and no longer have a stalling car, success!! OBC still a bit funny, and got a fault code up on that, and its running a little hot, so plan of action is Radiator Flush and see if that gets it running better (was running about 110degrees with no change) and pop in a different General Module unit for the OBC Will get there, just a small bit of work each time, and Im enjoying the learning curve its bringing with it!
  23. Yeah I had the M62B44 in the 740iL and that was all fine and well and I could live with that, hence looking for the same engine in the E39, which of course was easy, lots of them on the market. Will see how she treats me from here...
  24. Yeah never had issues like this so a bit new to me, both the 7s were generally easy to tell when an issue came up, as it was all mechanical/suspension. Will see how it goes, but yeah thanks guys, fingers crossed she will pipe up and work well after the minor adjustments.. Cant wait to have her running decent enough for me to take her for a blast (haha)
  25. When it was scanned, came up with loads and loads of fault codes (I tend to have a thing buying duds :/) But once cleared, just came back with Cam Sensor.. apparently the fuel pump and the sensor are correlated in a way that can then also affect the computer. So Cam Sensor, see how that goes, and then Fuel Pump, see how that goes. Hopefully that will do the trick, but if not we will see what else can be done And for the brown crap in engine bay, looks to be from the Cruise Control.
