  1. Thanks for the pics Brent - keep me posted on that one. I take it from what I have seen the car is not an ACS, just wrongly badged? Hope I catch up with you next week.

    Totally non-bmw

About an inch diameter - clear, not opaque and hard (not nylex etc). I want about a metre, maybe 1.5m for an experiment. Does anyone know where I could get something like this. The closest thing I have seen is the tubes undercar neons come in - a tube like that would probably do the trick. There must be some way of getting one without buying a neon. Anyone know or work in that industry? Cheers
  3. Andrew - PM Sent Nath - That's where that went!!!!!!!! It sat outside Rentons Waiapa for months - I wondered if they'd shipped it to Kaikohe. I will go have a look as I wasn't in the market when it was at Waipapa. 535 on trademe - on my list. Brent - may call sometime next week or the following one. Thanks everyone. I will keep you all posted with my progress.
  4. I have started looking seriously now as actually have the funds. I know that it's usually a case of wait and see what turns up, but that means I am restricted to what I see advertised. So asking on here, hopefully somebody finds a gem I may otherwise have overlooked. No mad panic, will wait till the right vehicle presents itself, rather than buy the first thing that happens to be found. The 320 will do till then, but I need more speed. Will look at anything North of Hamilton. Must-haves: Leather Manual if 525, but happy for an auto for 325 or 535. Very good condition Rust-free Wants: Facelift if e30 Manual 4-door Mtech-2 for 325 Will look at anything up to $8k asking for top examples, but not for anything average or missing most of my wants. Prefer to find a relatively good example for around the 4-5 1/2k mark and then spend any extra on mods. Just putting it out there. Cheers folks.
  5. I was thinking the same as Emma. In cain's words - Audi go? - not too good by the looks of it... Looking at smashed cars is kind of cool, but not so fun for those involved.
  6. I take that back - the Escort ruled hard. I would still own it if my Dad's apprentice hadn't borrowed it and written it off. Would def. buy another one if I found one as mint as that one was.
  7. From first to current I have owned: 1977 Ford Escort Panelvan I981 Mitsubishi Mirage 1979 Vauxhall Chevette Coupe 1985 Toyota Corolla 1987 Toyota Corolla FX-GT 1985 Holden Commodore (VK) 2000 Honda 50cc Moped 1991 Mitsubishi Lancer GTR (non EVO) 1977 Suzuki GT 250 bike 1986 Nissan Navar flatdeck and currently 1989 BMW E30 which I am about to upgrade to another bimmer. Out of the above list, loved the Chevette, FX-GT, VK and Lancer the most.

    TradeMe

    Anyone know who arros is?
  9. Agreed - I know some installers who refuse to offer mobile services as they do not beleive they can do the job to the standard to which they aspire.

    Repainting

Stop your moaning Andy and get into it. Gus's recommendation for sandpaper is spot on. Gus - just make sure your air compressor is grunty or it won't do - can't be just one of those couple of hundy supercheap auto or repco jobs. I've got a great big f**k-off one and it does OK. The reason I don't do any painting on my car is that you pay a huge premium for colour matched paint from a painters if you don't getthem to do it such that you may as well get them to do the job. My recent paint experience, I sanded averything back, did some minor panelling and bogging, sand again and primed. Let the pros do the rest. If you can get the paint at a reasonable price though, and are handy with a spray gun, go for it. I painted the boat myself to an excellent standard, but since I was painting the whole thing, colour-matching wasn't an issue, so the paint was cheap. I pick my bits up on Monday Andy - I'll let you know whether I'm happy with the job, and much it cost then to give you an idea.
  11. Any good aftermarket unit will have an aux-n you can plug your ipod etc into. Run the wires to somewhere convenient that you can semi-permanently mount the ipod, or buy an i-trip and put up with the slightly degraded sound quality. Good, old Blaupunkt... I can't say I like much of their new stuff, but the old Bluedot used to make some really nice units, a few of which found their way into audi's as factory equipment, and were excellent units. Of the few I listed above, the clarion and JVC both have multi-colour displays that will give you the desired orange or red. Most older Blaus also have red or orange displays - nakamichi also use red or orange - they are pricey for a new one, but you might find one secondhand somewhere for a reasonable price, and they are extremely good quality but a little hard to use. Emma - lots of companies have "cheap" brands to sell crap and feed that market - usually the build quality is worse as they cut corners, and the components are cheaper too. Transonic is made by Panasonic, Teac used to be a really good brand, and Sanyo make a range of stuff from excellent to sh*t, so it really depends. For example, I would never buy reactor, but I would also never buy regular fusion rubbish - only their "competition" stuff is value for money - nothing really that wrong with their cheaper stuff except that for the money you can do MUCH better. Another example is Infinity - they have a huge range of gear from crap to good - you just get what you pay for.
  12. Those prices are at the higher end of average, but not over the top. I re-iterate - you get what you pay for, and if you pay bugger all for installation, you are wasting your time (in most cases).
  13. Dynatron have their own installers, and they also have authorised installers which are not part of the Dynatron company, but distribute their products and install them with full Dynatron warranty. The only thing I would say about Dynatron is, given their popularity, more theives will start to know how to disable them. Put a Dynatron in a well hidden location in the vehicle like up under the dash, and then stick an autowatch sticker on the window. In fact that is a good practice anyway - never advertise the alarm you have - advertise a different brand - that way theives who have experience disabling certain alarms will stumble when they come accross yours. Finally, if you are looking for an installer make sure they are NZ Security Association Approved - if they are, they had to pass certain criteria regarding skill levels and ability, and have gone through police checks etc to become approved so you can be more certain of a good job.
  14. Just b glad you're delivering pizza in NZ - I was just over the ditch and we ordered pizza's 15mins (if you drive like a pizza boy) from the pizza place. $20 for two large pizzas delivered - they can't be making ANY money - then it was late and the guy offered to knock $5 off. I felt so sorry for him I paid him anyway. I mean the guy had to do a round trip of say 40 mins by the time he drove each way, parked and then ran all over the hotel looking for my room, then only wanted a miserable $15 for two large pizzas!!!!!!!!!! That was dominos too. And the guy on the phone said it would only be $10 if we were in the central city area instead of 15 mins away - HOW THE HELL DO THEY MAKE MONEY???? Anywho - on topic - agreed, get an ecenomical jappa for the delivery job. You won't mind so much if you have to give it heaps to make extra deliveries, you won't mind if some other dope backs into it outside the pizza place, and you can toss it in a year and get something properly decent.
  15. Mongoose is insurance rated sme as dynatron. M80 is equivalent to Dynatron 7600 and costs the same (around $500-550 installed) Don't skimp on installation - pay the extra and get it done properly - otherwise you may as well have no alarm at all - I CANNOT stress this enough.

    E30 costs

$6k 4-dr E30 '89 320i 97000kms $400 Sundry repairs to bring up to my standards and replacing steelies with bottlecaps that came with 4 good tyres. $1000 - 6.5 Infinity front components, 6" JVC rears, JVC heady, Caliber amp, Pioneer 12" sub installed etc. $500 Dynatron 7600 $200 paint So say $8k all up and its still only done 100300kms. Purchase price was a little high maybe, but was convenient and I was in a very big hurry to get transport so that is reflected in price. Have also spent $600 replacing cambelt, plugs and waterpump and adjusting the tappets.
  18. Alpine - really good units plus don't look out of place in a bimmer, but they have a price premium. Clarion DXZ-746MP (don't go for the 846MP 2 extra RCA's and onboard hard drive, but nowhere near as good sound reproduction) JVC KD-LHX505 - a bit too much chrome for me, but a good unit none the less. Panasonic CQ-C1301 - Robust brand, black front, very cheap. Panasonic is a good brand, but I think it looks too gaudy. Rockford Fosgate RFX9120G - looks good in a bimmer, the brand is good, but I've never had a play on this unit, so can't say whether it is actually decent to use.
  19. Think that was me. Second the Dynatron 7600 and also put forward the Mongoose M60 or M80. I have had a M60 and a 7600 - I'm putting a 7600 in my current car. Good a recommendation as any I suppose.
  20. I vote the scrappy to pay you to take it away, but some councils will remove for free if you ring them. Part of their mission to keep their city clean - I think Manukau does, but not sure about AukCC or NthShrCC.
  21. Hi, I have some brand new sony gear for sale that was going to go into a mates R33, but he changed his mind. Sub is a 12" Xplod in a sealed enclosure. Amp is a 600Wmax 240WRMS 3/4ch Xplod 4060gtx and is mounted on the sub box. Both are brand new and never been connected to power. Will throw in an amp wiring kit with everything you need except the main amp power fuse which you can pick up for a few bucks. $500 the lot plus p&p (May be able to deliver to Auckland for a lazy $20) linkage to amp details Edit: Have got original box for amp incl. manual and receipts for both. Sub box went in the bin. This is a pretty good deal so snap it up!!

    BMW

Sorry cain, but no. It gives a quite detailed history of the company, especially the early years, and the various endeavours of the company, but ony focusses on what the authors have obviously decided were key models for various reasons. Models covered in detail are: The Wartburg Motorwagen (The car made by the company that was bought by BMW to provide its initial production facilities for aircraft engines etc) The Dixi 3/15 PS (BMW's first car - an Austin Seven made under license by the Eisenach Dixi factory purchased by BMW so it could start making automobiles. So yes, the first BMW was an Austin Seven, a British design, not Bavarian. This model was slowly developed over 2-3 years to become the Dixi DA1, and then the BMW DA2 - the first BMW badged BMW) BMW Wartburg DA3 BMW 3/20 PS (The first BMW to be made after the end of the BMW/Austin lecense agreement, and thus the first fully-BMW designed and engined BMW - previous models still retained some Austin elements) BMW 303 315/1 Sport-Zweister 326 Cabriolet 328 Roadster 327 & 328 series 335 328 Mille Miglia & Touring 325 Leichter Einheits-Pkw Veritas RS 502 Cabriolet 502 3.2 Litre Super Isetta 300 507 503 700LS 3200CS 1500 3200S Staatslimousine 2000CS 1802 2002tii 2002 turbo 2500 3.0CSi 3.0CSL E12 520 E21 323i E23 728i E24 635CSi M1 Brabham BMW BT52 E30 325iX Touring E30 318i Cabby E30 M3 Sport Evo Z1 E32 750iL E34 M5 and M5 Touring 850i E36 318i Cabby E36 M3 and M3 cabby E36 318ti compact E36 320i touring McLaren F1 E38 740iL E39 540i E39 M5 M Roadster Z3 coupe 2.8 Le Mans V12 E46 328i E46 M3 CSL Z8 1999 X5 Williams FW22-FW26 E65 745i Mini Cooper S Z4 3.0i E60 530d E63 645Ci and Cabby X3 3.0i 120i So sorry - no 540iLE although the E30 333 SA car gets a brief mention.
  24. Hmmm, don't know about over here, but a mate in aussie told me that over there taiwanese tyres are illegal - although tyre places have been known to sand the "made in taiwan" logo off the sidewall. Don't buy taiwanese tyres. Bugger Ryan - make sure Federal replace them with something decent - I would refuse to have the same tyre, and request they replace them all. A different size of the same brand and model may be different as even though they are the same tread, often manufacturers use different methods and factories to make different sizes of the same line.
