Nice to see they are doing the ones for the E39 now.
-
Mate as far as i am concerned it was pure sex on wheels, Bit pricey at 1.6million pounds though.

Ahhhh the life and times of a bimmer mech , We are the same at the moment work is just increasing by the bucket load, I have taken on 30 temps alone in the last 3 weeks, and i can envisage 2 to 3 times that amount again over the next 6 months the way we are going.

Just found out the new units also have the new revised controls, Previously the volume control rotors looked pretty crappy but now they are more oem and have the orange circle light up around them. Also you can now use the internet function as a anti theft car tracker.

Be the bump stops, They disintegrate with age. You can get them from BNT for quite cheap.

Thought i might as well start a new thread for this. I have now officially ordered my Dynavin unit for my E46, It is version 3 and i held off until now as there were still a few bugs that i wanted to see ironed out before i made my purchase. The new version also includes 3g internet , Dunno what i would do with that but its in there now. I have igo 8.3 already for when it arrives and the maps are from the 3rd quarter of 2009 which is about as up to date as i am going to get at the moment. Total cost to my door is $1050, You may think this is alot but when you take into account you get Navigation, bluetooth, tv, dvd, full ipod connectivity, usb, video player and rear view camera (actual camera is extra) and all this rolled into a oem look touch screen center display that is plug and play and also integrates with your mfl i think thats a pretty fair price. The factory only does a run every month and currently all the august units are already sold and thats before they have left the factory so i am on the September list. Will keep this updated as it happens.

will be watching this space alright, Can't wait to see this.

E46 Retrofit multifunction steering wheel. (lots of pics)

First post now updated with all the instructions and the retrofit all done. Yes there are alot of pics but i always find pics helpful if doing something. -
I forgot all about that lol, When i had my e36 i found it under the back seat They are stapled to the underside of the seat squab. (but you will not always find one) The dealer (Bmw of course) is able to pull up a build sheet on any bmw as long as you supply the vin number.
-
Dealer, When i was looking at buying and checking cars out when I came across one I liked i would drop into the dealer and they would print me out a build sheet. I have to admit they were pretty good as i must have dropped in about 10 times , But at the end of the day they are getting my $$ when i need servicing etc.
-
IMO best way is to get a build sheet on the car, Then you know excatly what it has ie 337 M SPORTS PACKAGE 226 SPORTS SUSPENSION SETTINGS 255 SPORTS LEATHER STEERING WHEEL 481 SPORT SEATS F DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER 788 M LT/ALY WHEELS and so on.,

Yes this gives you full cruise control. -
I got all four keys with mine (import), Although the plastic one looks pretty dodgy feels like it would just break if you tried to turn something with it though.

E46 Retrofit multifunction steering wheel. (lots of pics)

I know Hybrid has already done a thread on this but i just wanted to do my own one as some of his pictures are missing now. I am going to try and provide as many pics as possible just incase anybody else wants to do this. I got my kit from Gavin at Euro Italian (part number 65 71 0 021 159) and his price (with the Bimmersport discount) is over a hundred dollars less than what the dealer is asking so a big thanks To Gavin for the great prices and professional service he offers. Please note this retrofit is if you currently already have the 3 spoke steering wheel. Ok the first set of pics, These are just the package turning up and what was contained within. This is the type of steering wheel i currently have and will be retrofitting. Before we start the retrofit we need to disconnect the battery, This is important or you could very well end up with the airbag light on and unless you have a scanner you would need to go in and get it cleared. Personally i would disconnect the battery if you are working on anything electrical, its just common sense. First thing we need to do is remove the airbag. This is pretty easy as behind the steering wheel there are two hole's. Push a flat blade screwdriver in here pushing on the spring and you can just pop the airbag out. Once you have the airbag out you will need to disconnect the two plugs that are connected to it, This is straight forward there are clips on them and they unclip and you pull them up. Unplug your existing airbag loom from the slip ring (notice there is another empty plug slot next to the airbag loom one, this is where your new plug from the mfl goes into) and using a 16mm socket remove the center steering wheel bolt. Notice i marked the steering wheel so when it goes back on its aligned perfectly, There is a couple of locating lugs when putting it back on but the teeth are pretty fine on the spline so i wanted to make sure everything went back the way it was. Now you can just pop off the steering wheel, Don't go giving it a yank as it will just slide off. Remove the underside cover of the steering column this is held in place with two push pin style fasteners, I just used a fine philips screw driver and you push the center pin in, Then just pull slightly down on the cover and it will unclip. Once you have it removed you can then start installing the loom that came with your mfl. Unplug the green plug on your steering column, Slide the plug out from the casing and plug in the three wires as per indicated on the retrofit kit. Now you can drop down the panel under the drivers side and remove the lcm unit. You can unplug the lcm once you have it out by pressing down on the little nub and the top clip swings over it. Route the rest of the loom (from the new 3 wires you plugged into the green plug) along the cable trunking and then as per the instructions that came with your kit cut and splice into the same colored wires as you have on your new loom into the cabling going into the lcm unit. Your kit should come with all the correct splicing connectors. Now remove your glove box from the passenger side. Just a matter of undoing 6 screws and it will just drop down. Then thread the single blue wire from the drivers side and your new loom (this is your cruise control wire) through behind all your heater and radio controls, I used a knitting needle and pushed it through from the glove box side then tapped the connector onto the end of it and pulled it through. you then need to get this through to your dme, I found this part probably the hardest part of all. First remove you dme cover under the hood. then locate the rubber grommet where your glove box used to be down under the fuse box, I used the same knitting needle and used this to thread the blue wire through the rubber grommet into the dme and electrical box. Once your have it threaded through go around to under the bonnet and fish the wire out from under the dme (this is not easy as the wires come out from right down the bottom of the box). Once your have the wire out unplug the plug as per indicated in the pic and slide out the correct plug and plug your blue wire into the pin indicated as per the kits instructions. Now you can put the top back on the dme unit and put back your glove box and cover under the steering wheel and cover under drivers side and plug back in your lcm. Now all you have to do is swap over the non button section on your steering wheel with the new buttons one. On my wheel this was pretty easy, you have to remove the from 2 section's these come out in one piece. Unscrew two on the front side. This can all be done with the steering wheel off the car. Then i had 2 to remove from the back side. Then the whole lot just pulled off, The flip it over and remove the other 2 screws. Then you can swap out for the new button section. Then its just a matter of putting everything back on in reverse put your steering wheel back on and plug in the new small connector from your buttons to the other plug on your slip ring next to your air bag plug. Don't forget to put the main steering wheel bolt back in , Put airbag back in (make sure all plugs are in the back and connected to the slip ring). You should end up looking like this. Then just a matter of connecting your battery and you should be good to go. I had no problems from the word go and everything worked as should. Volume, Track change, and cruise control all worked and the buttons all lighted up when the lights were turned on. Is this retrofit worth it ??. Hell yes i love it I would rate this about a 4 out of 10 on a skill level basis of doing and would take you around 2 hours to do if doing it for the first time. Question's all ways welcome. -
Up to you if you feel confident enough to do it or not, Don't know what style your steering wheel is , Four spoke or 3 spoke ??. If its 3 spoke this thead hear although for retrofitting the multi function shows how to remove the airbag, >>Here<< , I don't know about the 4 spoke one. If you do not feel confident enough around your airbag i would suggest the dealer.
-
Your dealer should be able to enable this no problems.
-
Weren't the e46's of these prone to the dreaded read sub frame failure.
-
Cheers Brent, Could you have a gander and get back to me.
-
Sorry did not see your reply, I would have to agree, I don't like the look of that one, Very under spec'ed by the looks of it for the money they are asking. I would just bide your time until something you feel just fits. Believe me it will be worth the wait.
-
Cheers Tom but i already have that lol, I received all the manuals in the pouch when i got the car but they are in Japanese, I have a service log coming from the dealers but they wanted $60 for the owners manual so just thought somebody may have one out there. Just nice to have the correct oem manuals with the car.
-
First off and welcome to the forum, Yup nice big deep pockets are always handy with dealing with your beemer. , In saying that if you do keep it maintained as per schedule you have a car you will love and probably have very little problems.

Sounds like a symptom of a flat battery, Either that or the starter is on the way out.
