yea i put alot of consideration into doing it up or thrashing it on the race track but ive found moving out from a shared flat into my own house is incuring alot of costs, also provides a garage for the next project though haha

i wonder if someone with the same car can tell us what revs it should sit at it is possible its trying to go into overdrive or lock up the torque converter but failing this lowers revs and lowers resistance for better cruising efficiency by effectivly deleting the torque converter im sure ray will tell you soon enough though

dont spose a really generous word of thanks would earn me the chance to drive an m5??? on second thought the fear of dinging something that impressive would have me glued to 50 so maybe not haha

i was looking at similar with the rarity of alloy trims especially in nz it seems alot easier to sand and gloss paint the ones you have i had a slightly different idea but not sure if it will work

How do I force my BMW E39 GPS to acquire satellites
yng_750 replied to GerryAttrick's topic in Electrical system
might be unrelated but i manage a supercheapauto we see a gps returned with issues maybe once every 3 months ive had 5 this week complaining of not being able to pick up satelights could be an issue with the network or solar interference id look into it before you shell out big money all the ones ive seen come and go with reception randomly will let you know if i hear any more -
dickhead of the day award goes to me who forgot to reinstall the coil pack covers and has water down the spark plug tubes on cyl 7 and 8 Good C... of the day award goes to mike aka turbolizard who re ran my codes and didnt laugh at me for such a amateur mistake on the upside the only codes stored after a week of driving were for misfires on cyl 7 & 8 while wet so looks like everything else is running relatively well Still thinking cats are bad might plug a pressure gauge in and test the back pressure before the cats

they need to be weel lubed through life so soap wioll wash out and cause squeaks ideal is using supplied grease if you dont have it get a silicon based grease most urethanes are happy with standard grease but im not 100% on what you have

car seemed to be running very much better though not perfect until tonight drove home form work ok moved car out of driveway and parked on road ok went to drive to the pub and it has a masive misfire judging by the absolute lack of power and on off pulsing in the exhaust it seems like a whole bank is misfiring Coil packs etc and bone dry if it is the rains fault could is possibly be water on exposed o2 sensor wiring? could a dead o2 sensor completely kill a bank? Might see if mike can run my codes agin infuriating weather to try and fix a car in
-
kinda unrelated but if the fan clutch happened to be stuffed wouldnt be a bad idea to convert to electric fan saves a fair chunk of power

cant believe he took german cars from nz to germany to make a video
-
would guess as you say its the torque converter anything else would actually cause the car to lurch slightly unlikely that it is it could be the odd air bubble making its way through the systems my first thought would be to check the fluid level and see if it smells funky
-
anyone able to get my options list? WBADE62010BW73173 seems to not work in most of the vin search engines ive found so far

if an e39 detects an inaccurate reading from a wheel sensor it will light up the ASC light and generally disable traction control and cruise control and ABS the affected wheel it shouldnt have a profound effect on your computer unless your tyre diameter front to rear is significantly different but even then unlikely some 4WDs with active center diffs (GTR skylines etc) have a cry with staggered wheel size as it constantly thinks the front wheels are losing traction because they are turning faster The lack of pressure can be caused by over heated fluid which may account for the failure jeffbebe had going up a hill, at any rate if your fluid is getting that bad your looking at getting a full flush at minimum. Wouldnt be the worst time ever to consider a manual conversion if the box is packing up

could be a computer issue or a fluid/valve issue either the comp isnt telling it to change or the pump isnt creating enough pressure to activate the auto shifting Only real option is to get it checked by a reputable gearbox specialist, not much diy available here

got the fuel tank down under 30km range then put half a tank of Z 95 octane in it seems to be a marked improvement maybe the bp 98 from hamilton was abit sh*t still not prefect so i might catch up with mike later this week and re run thecodes also i have bought a code reader but it has the OBD2 style plug anyone know if i can get an adaptor to the round 20 pin in nz? everything i can see online is EX uk

judging by how it doesnt seem overly rough but just has a rough idle when dead cold and seems abit flat i was already thinking it could have one bank running a poor mixture Turbolizard ran the codes for me this evening main responses were primary oxygen sensor for both banks and misfire on cylinders 4, 6 and 8 the misfire codes are likely from me playing with the coil packs and cleaning the plugs which caused it to miss for a few mins the cats do seem to get very hot very very quickly so quite possibly either blocked cats or my long drive has over heated them to the point of damaging the O2 sensors we cleared the codes and nothing reappeared after 5 mins of idling so i will wait a week and re check it and see what happens

only $85 to buy a decent stanley one with lifetime warrenty at supacheap
-
a member in taupo has offered the use of his scan tool i will use that first if i cant see anything i will unplug the coils one at a time and see what happens im guessing if i unplug them first then i will have an error code for each coilpack waiting for me anyway its pissing down today and we all know coil packs and rain dont mix

As is apparently not uncommon for e39s my car came with the dash readout telling me it was -40'C Abit of research told me the sensor is in front of the right hand wheel and is in a delicate spot and prone to damage. I went looking and found this. the entire plastic panel that holds the sensor / wind deflector / brake duct. was missing most likely from hitting a curb or similar. i picked this entire unit up including the temp sensor from Pick Apart in TGA for $11.50 second photo shows the bottom and the sensors position. my original plug was still there but had been damaged so i still cut and spliced the wires to use the plug that came with the sensor the brake duct goes on first, two bolts at the rear and one hiding up the front right behind the aircon drier. the min inner guard/ sensor mount clips into that then has around 5 bolts securing it final result looks like this the car seems slower to respond to the idea of rapid climate change than the act party and over the space of 12 hours its slowly crept up to saying -10'C although on function 7 of the hidden tests it does read out the current EXT temp as 14 so i presume the dash will slowly catch up hopefully this is helpful for others in future

pulled plugs all look ok cylinders 7 & 8 had a little oil on the plugs so i cleaned that up still running the same Just bought a code scanner tool so should know more by the end of the week

possibly like the 3 series a 318 can be a 1.9 the 323 can be a 2.5
