  1. NZ was once proud that it could offer a certain standard of living to all that lived here (post WW1). The bashing of dole bluggers and the like, kicked in with the 80's Labour government. As an election promise they said a vote for labour was a vote for job security. Once in office they sold SA (rogernomics), which created huge unemployment but kept wages low i.e. if you dont want to work for fark all - there's someone (unemployed) who will take your place - prob for cheaper. They also halved the (80's otago uni study) recommended benefit amount that would ensure those who were unemployed could sustain a minimum quality of life e.g. health, housing etc. They then used the 'dole blugger' tag to drum up support and give the nation a focus of blame for increased taxes etc. Successive governments have used this tool when needed, along with immigration, race card/privilege etc etc to gain support. Basically it's a political tool to get voters on side. The unemployed being the worst off from this situation. end rant. OT - no ones asked why they need 34 (+ drivers)!!!! Weren't they running up huge taxi fares just a year or so ago? So who had the beemer then? Shouldnt the luxury vehicles be reserved for the PM and a select few ministers?
  2. +100!! Top team. Highly recommend.
  3. Hows their overall condition? Could be interested if you/she decided to sell them eventually...
  4. 5. ^ dont think many will do an agreed value on the older cars, especially with mods. Ami wouldn't.
  6. I was in the same position with AMI a few months ago - clean license, no accidents, single driver, 35. They put me on to Clic as the car was modified (suspension) and they said they could not insure (after initially saying they would). Because it was late in the year and we were traveling over xmas/new year there was no time to shop around and I just wanted it sorted. May change insurers after the year policy is up...
  7. Did he come to the meet just before the end of the year? Looks like the one and story is the same (family car). If so, that car was mint.
  8. Interesting topic. This may explain part of the issue. Economics of planned obsolescence Planned obsolescence tends to work best when a producer has at least an oligopoly.[9] Before introducing a planned obsolescence, the producer has to know that the consumer is at least somewhat likely to buy a replacement from them. In these cases of planned obsolescence, there is an information asymmetry between the producer–who knows how long the product was designed to last–and the consumer, who does not. When a market becomes more competitive, product lifespans tend to increase. When Japanese vehicles with longer lifespans entered the American market in the 1960s and 1970s, American carmakers were forced to respond by building more durable products.[10] Full write up here - (definition of oligopoly is interesting) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence Hard to know where or what the tipping point was. I've only owned 80s e30's which I feel have just the right amount of mod cons. Minimal compared to modern vehicles, phenomenal compared to a horse and cart...
  9. Only for Ronal rims. Click on car shines wheel configurator tab (in red) and then follow ronal site directions. Instructions not in english but easy enough to work out. You can lower car/ride height as well... http://www.carshine.com.au/index.htm?http:...al%20Wheels.htm
  10. Did one with Page European a while back. Good service and reasonable price ($100). Jono51 (JK Southern Euro) can prob sort you out as well.
  11. The second 'very' has me curious, are the e46 models dubious or this particular year/model? Looks good btw.
  12. Nice. What are the rims? Or is that just a cover?
  13. Interesting. Wouldnt/shouldnt be too much gst on $420 bucks.
  14. There was one of these around welly last year (316, manual, same colour, not as tidy). Guy was thinking about selling at the time. Like that green.
  15. Nice, is that a slide out baby change table in the pic down the bottom...

  21. Cheers, will give him an email. I like the nz owned factor of AMI or AA but I'd also like to be insured for at least what I paid...
  22. Spoke with AMI on friday to double check the quote details, and to include a few that they hadn't asked for at the time. As soon as I mentioned that the previous owner had changed/upgraded suspension they informed me that they would be unable to insure. PIA as we had wanted to do multi-saver (home contents) policy with them as well. They did put us on to CLIC here which is owned by AMI. Anyone else using them here? They wont do an agreed value but they'll do this - we will pay the market value of your vehicle up to the total sum insured stated in the policy schedule, with ownership of your vehicle transferred to us.
