  1. you need to enable the dwa. enabling those settings alone don't do it.

    GTR issues

Not sure how gtr's are put together, but first thing I'd look for is a pipe that's blown off or a ripped pipe (if it's plastic). Back when friends and I had modified turbo cars, a pipe blowing off was reasonably common.

    Self Service

brought from them before and they're good., they send out jellybeans with your first order. Also check out ecstuning.com, ordered from there a few times as well and have never had an issue. Things like air filters/oil filters etc from there are ridiculously cheap. I got 6 spark plugs, an oil filter and an air filter from ecs tuning, shipped from the US for less than the price of 3 spark plugs here. Ripco, 52 bucks for each filter. ecstuning, ~7 for the oil and ~16 for the air filter. Spark plugs were ~10 each, where as ripco wanted > 40 bucks each.
  4. Dunno, never bought the tires that failed, although the my01 was between 1-2 years old. The current ones were on the car when it was imported in Dec last year, apparently the trip across the sea doesn't do them any favours. A fair number of people I've talked to have suffered the same fate with imported cars. When they arrive there's lots of tread, but they look pretty manky and crack along the inside wall pretty quickly.,
  5. So back on topic , But thanks all for the opinion's though, that's what forums are for and one if the reasons I asked on here. Went for the warrant today and as expected failed on the front tires. Not for the outer cracks on the edge, but slight cracks along the inside circumference. I guess the outer cracks were an indication of the general state of the tires themselves. Not the first bridgestone tires that have done that to me, had a simliar issue with an MY01 cracking to the point you could almost get fingers in there when the car was lifted. Actually that reminds me about a bit of rage I had about a year ago when bridgestone stuck it to me good and proper when they changed the country of manufacture from NZ to somewhere in asia. I replaced the cracked tire with a newer my01, then 6 months later had to replace the other 3 tires due to inside wear. I then failed a warrant because even though I had all the exact same tires and sizes, bought 6 months apart, they decided to change the load rating by 4 when the country of manufacture changed, meaning the tires could not be used on the same axle. This required me to also replace the 6 month old tire with a new one, which really made my day. Maybe I'll go with the goodyear asymetric's now, unless the bridgestone comes severly under the cost of the goodyears.
  6. The S001's seem to be the replacement for those, released with the re002's. They're prob a bit higher spec and price that I want or need to go though. trips to countdown just don't get that intense
  7. Hi Johno, I'd be after 225/45/17's, and 245/40/17's if they fail on those as well. I'll give you a call if the outcome is unfavourable Thanks, Scott
  8. For me it prob would be, warrants due in early june (3rd). Already have the other bits i might need in transit from the us
  9. Hello all, been spending the better part of the afternoon researching tires. Mine have cracks in them on the outer edges and I suspect they may not make it through the next warrant check next week. The cracks have been there since the car was vin'd and warranted earlier this year though so maybe they're not all that bad (optimistic here, the yard I got it from was a little bit suspect, I still have their sunglasses, cellphone chargers and copied cd's they'd left in the car when we picked it up. We threw the cigarette ash and beer bottles out though). Anyway, the car currently has asymmetric bridgestone playz, which seem to be decent enough and I'd like to replace them with something of simliar stature. I've been looking online at re001's and asymmetric eagle f1s (owned the gds3s before and was happy with them), these seem to be the bread and butter of the range I'm looking at, but in my travel's I've found that the re001's are being replaced with re002's. Anyone heard anything about these coming into NZ, and when that would be? Release date in aus is 1st June. If I do end up needing new tires these could be a goer.
  10. It's probably an infrared one like mine., does it have a led looking thing by the barrel? Aim at the center mirror, push the button and keep holding and aiming. I find it's not usually instantaneous and requires some aim. Infrared = fail.
  11. I have one, they look a million times better than the non m-sport ones. There are 3 e46's in the garage downstairs and my m-sport one is the better looking one by far. Also have more resale value when you go to sell it.
  12. It can be done, it's an option. Think you can even select the speed.
  13. I bought one of these of deal extreme, it's how I enabled the 'alarm' features of the car. Takes a couple of weeks to arrive and is easy enough to use. Some of those shadow errors are pesky, no real description of what they are, or whether or not they're a problem. Also tried hunting through TIS for them and it comes up with pretty much nothing. Make sure you ONLY use the software that comes with it. I've read on the net about newer version's purposely bricking clones such as this. It's also great for changing chimes to buzzers, and buzzers to chimes. If that's your kind of thing. Oh, and it's a little annoying to learn how to use.
  14. LOL What a F-ing laugh! Seriously though, I just sold one of these last week in far-far-far better condition than his (it even had a WOF/Reg!) with full leather, bbs wheels and tires less than a year old. He would be scratching for 1500. Absolutely scratching.

    MANHO

I walk past this car almost every morning.., it looks quite clean and nice in person. I prefer my one though
  16. What year is it? I can read the options on my e46 with a scanner tool. Perhaps you can do the same.
  17. I've heard that about NAC as well, but have never had to insure a car with them so unsure if it's actually true. If you agree to it why wouldn't it be? Great case for reading the fineprint.
  18. used a bmw scanner 1.4. Intuitive enough, once you figure it out.
  19. Hi all, thought I'd post my experience enabling the alarm on a a japanese e46. I looked high and low for info and didn't really find everything I wanted to know, so hopefully the below helps someone who's in the same boat I was in. So, I bought an e46 in January, read that it had factory immobilisers and an alarm, but the alarm is missing the trigger points and siren, and isn't enabled by default. I thought hey, if I can enable it then it's probably worth shelling out for the sensors and siren, still cheaper than an after market alarm and less car mangling. I also thought hey, if I can get the indicators to flash, at least then I'll know whether or not the damn key worked. BTW, IR remotes suck. Too many times I seem to end up aiming the remote through the back of a seat. Also read (on here) that the japanese version doesn't have the flashing light in the clown nose. I have the stupid IR remotes, and apparently the clown nose is just a sensor. Also noticed that the interior motion sensor cover does not exist in the roof of japanese e46's. So, with sufficient confusion in hand I ordered a programming tool because I wanted to check and reset the error codes anyway, waited far too long for it to arrive and tried it out. I figured out what the alarm options were in the tool played with them until I switched it on. Once I got it working the differences I noticed are; - Indicators flash (no more guessing if the key locked/unlocked the car!) Which is what I really wanted it for - Inside door handle no longer unlocks or opens the door if the door is locked (brilliant! Theives can crawl through broken glass) - Centre console unlock button no longer works when the car is armed (same as above) - If you turn the car off the alarm stuff won't enable until the door was opened/shut - The clownose does not flash (but this doesn't matter too much, the stereo flashes anyway with the car off) - The key will turn the alarm off when you turn the ignition on and the alarm is on Note I do not have the tilt sensor or motion sensor, so none of those things trigger, and I also have no siren, so it doesn't make any noise. Also an error code is thrown complaining about these things missing, but you'll only ever know that if you plug a scanner tool in. Seems to be a standard side effect that doesn't actually matter though, based on what I've read online. I see the sirens by themselves for about 100 USD on ebay so maybe I'll get one one day. Not much point really without a microwave sensor, for which there is no mount in the roof. Possibly could retrofit the convertable ones but Ilm not really that interested. Hopefully someone finds the above useful
  20. It can be done with things like bmwscanner etc. I was playing with one of those today. I saw the 'auto-lock' feature with different speed settings etc.
  21. Try find the manufacturer model number and get it from here. https://www.maf-shop.com/ Found an e46 one for 99 euros or there abouts I think. Much better than those online places like pelican parts etc. The e46 shares a part number with a kia sonata i think, which is why a cheaper one can be found. Another online shop is ecs tuning, I've bought a few things from there and found them pretty good to deal with. Quick shipping too! Got a new windscreen cowl from them for ~56 USD (not inc shipping), and it was here within a week once shipped. Also got a hella oil level sender from there as well, 115usd. FYI, i was quoted 500 for the airflow meter here, and 390 for the oil level sender. Neither of those quotes included GST. There is benefit to shopping online.
  22. Just recently switched to AMI., the premium was about 150 less than state. Also state will decline insurance if you have mods over 1/3 the value of your car, so I'd not recommend quoting the wheels at the price they were when they were brand new (unless you bought them brand new of course).
  23. Hello, cheers for the replies. I was leaning towards BM Workshop but I ended up going with the first in the list, Euroworks as they seemed like they knew what they were on about and what to look for when I talked to them on the phone. It was also the closest place to the car so the yard was ok with dropping it off there. Would recommend those guys as well, they spent 1 1/2 hours with the car and about 20 minutes on the phone with me after! Very friendly and honest. It's a 2002 320. We need something that's more suitable than what we have now (baby on the way).
  24. Hi all, I'm looking at buying a bmw but would like to get it inspected first. Does anyone know of any BMW or euro shops that are slightly west-ish where I could get the car inspected? The car's in Avondale and I don't want to get them to drive overly far (or have to go too far myself I if need to) so it can be checked. Places I've found so far are: - Euroworks in Henderson, - BM Workshop in Grey Lynn, - European Cars Services and Parts LTD in New Lynn I'm going to give them a call tomorrow morning. Anyone had any experience with any of the above or any others they'd recommend roughly in that area? Thanks Scott

That it does, though it's definitely a case of different strokes for different folks.
