Why are you so worried about the flash counter? OBD flashing is extremely stable under the right conditions with decent flash tools

Most of the new gen BMW ECU's cant be tuned via ECU reprogramming...yet, only option is piggy back right now. Some cars do have the option of a factory ECU upgrade for more power.

E36 328's are diagnostic port flashable, no need to burn new chips and socket the ecu

Yeh it should lift out, get a photo of the ecu number on the case and i will see if i have a origional file unless you already have one to compare to
