  1. Have you tried locking the car with your old key, taking it well away from the vehicle, wait 20 mins and then trying the new key to see what happens?
  2. NZTA rules state headlights must be predominantly white. I believe the lights in the above pictures are not legal in NZ due to them being mostly purple. http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/virm-in-...ghting-v4a2.pdf Link to VIRM regarding headlights. Reason for Rejection Performance 15. When switched on, a headlamp emits a light that is: a )not substantially white or amber, or b ) different in colour or intensity from the other lamp in a pair, or c ) not steady, or d )not bright enough to illuminate the road ahead, eg due to modification, deterioration or an incorrect light source, or e ) too bright, eg due to the fitment of an HID conversion kit (Note 8) or other incorrect light source. also +1 to above. Higher temp = different color = less actual light Those 8500k ones and above put out less actual light than standard ish bulbs. I think you'll find the above reasons are why they are no longer on the market. M2C
  3. I would also suggest leaving your window motors in, windows and doors must operate for a WOF. You could replace the glass with perspex but they would still have to open and close. You could always convert to manual windows, would save a bit of weight but I wouldn't think it would be a whole lot.
  4. Car manufacturers don't want you "faffing" with their vehicles hence why it's such a pain in the bootay. Do you really "need" LED lights? should be the first question you ask yourself.
  5. If you leave brake dust on for too long it eventuly eats into the paint. Once that happens its strip and repait time. Have you tried CRC 5.56. I know, I know its a lubricant....but its also good for taking tar off of paintwork. Says so on the side of the can.
  6. Go for the 545i. The E65's give ALOT of problems eg. active sway bars....good in theory expensive when they stop working. Thats why you've read horror reviews of them because they are a horror of a car. Lots of fancy technology to break. The repiar bill when the airbag light comes on will scare you....they are chronic for SRS controllers failing and yes when you put the new unit in sometimes some of the older ecu's in the car wont talk to the new one so out they go too. Heard an awful story about a guy with an E65 cost him almost $12,000 to turn the airbag light off (this is in NZ) and replace the (in)active sway bars. I think the 545i will give ya less trouble.

+1 Hot Wire Common a** problem, almost always on the driver side, just be careful with ya soldering iron...gas powered one might be a little hairy.
  8. Wouldn't it have been eaiser to run the saw down the door jamb and cut off the latch rather than destroy a good door?

    MK3 Golf

Could be crank sensor, could be faulty immobiliser, would need to get it checked properly.
  10. Doesn't the vanos unit need to be retimed with special tools before it is refitted?
  11. I think you just contradicted yourself there.....
  12. First i'd check that the 2 hinge springs are still hooked into their notches. These are 2 long metal rods that run side to side between the two boot hinges. You may find one has come out.
  13. No kits that I know of. Have to custom make the inlet manifold, use aftermarket ECU with a map sensor to run the whole shebang, custom crank pulley, and a tensioner bracket to tension the s/c belt. Follow the path and you have a billet crank pully and tensioner assy. Custom manifold removes those awful v12 manifold gaskets that leak all the time and with a little forward planning you may be able to route the runners so the s/c sits quite low in the valley.
  14. Sod girly little turbos, Throw the whole airbox/inlet manifold setup away and supercharge the thing, custom intake manifold it can stick up through the bonnet in a custom bulge.
  15. Taken from an american webshite: total length [end of crank pulley to rear block face] 29.25" top of motor, widest point at valve covers 19.5" bottom of oil pan sump to crank centerline 8.5" bottom of oil pan sump to highest point on valve covers 25.5" bottom of oil pan to bottom of sump 3.5" rear block face to crank end 1.0" rear of block to oil pan sump 14.5" Yes it's in inches don't be lazy, I've already done the googling for you.

    Classic Car show.

It is a different car. The HotRod was purple ish and was outside. He's talking about the Silver 39 coupe that was inside the building. Was chopped 4", channeled 5", bonnet lengthened, hardtop that looked like a soft top (YES IT WAS A HARDTOP - if you looked inside it the roof was solid steel) That was a thing of beauty. I liked the E-type stand everything there was pristine. I was also disappointed by the ferrari stand. I know there is more than the 4 ish cars they had there.. I found the BMW stand boring. Yes it had all the M3's but they were also locked up with the bonnets shut so you couldnt marvel at their glorious engines. An E36 M3 looks almost the same as a standard E36 and the E46 is the same. Only the E30 has different body lines so you knew exactly what it was.
  17. Room wont be an issue. I've seen a V8 twin turbo where the turbos are actullay under the car beside the gearbox. Or the turbos could sit high and off to the side rather than under the manifold.

The $250K Supercharged MG was quite cool. Apparently the dude drives it everywhere and does hill climbs in it.
  19. Hearing that I would A) Check the fuses just in case something is back feeding (not likely) Find someone who has another box you can try C) Book it in with someone and get it professionally fixed In that order, if the fuses are okay and another box doesn't fix the problem may find its a wiring fault somewhere.

    Insurance help

The "Market" decides the market value which I think means they check trade-me and offer you the cheapest price they find. We got sweet F A for ours when it got stolen. They gave us enough to buy a second hand playstation (not new) and replace all the games second hand. Also they only gave use $10 per CD maximum value which means they gave us $100 to replace $350 worth of CD's new. Can try arguing but I doubt they will listen.
