Where is the one in CHCH?
  2. Mops, This Software you have for programing the Motroinc? Can it operate with an emulator so that real time adjustments can be made? Cheers, Rich.
  3. I reakon that V12 would be great in a e34....550.... Not much difference to a 540 I guess though, a bit more torque? I guess it would fit easily enough!
  4. What are these gold plated bearings that need to be replaced that cost over $500??? Does anyone have the number of the bearing. I would keen to price it up through our suppliers.

    E34 Wheels

For the E34 Stock is: Off set ET20 PCD 120mmx5 (120mm pattern) Hub center 72.5mm Mine are ET19 16x7inch with 245/45/16 no rubbing. Not quite 19x9.5's I know! Look at some of the M5's with staggered wheel setups; this would give you a good indication of how big you can comfortably go, and if the ET's change, if at all.
  10. I asked the guy some questions last time it was for sale. Sounds like it is just bolted on with no fuelling issues looked into or even considered. I asked for an engine bay pic but never received one. Maybe a bit of development has gone into it since???
  11. That M3 GTR is awsome. Great video thanks conrod.....

    SOUND DEADNING

Acoustop is what is used for deadening in marine applications and in industry. We are looking at using it to deaden the sound coming from our presses here at work. I have talked to a lot of people who have roccomended it. Not sure if it would suit your application but the more info you have the better descion you can make. Expensive, but if it does the job! Ruapuna Styles

Does anyone here belong to the BMW SI car club? Doesn't sound like they do to many events? I was thinking of joining the Canterbury car club as they seem to be very active? Thoughts? I'm keen to churn around the track a few times!

The Yanks would have nice long motorways where there is just constant speed. I know in the Uk we used to go for ever on a tank of gas on the motorways but as soon as you were on B road's similar to what we have here the gas would disappear. Is your OBC accurate? Mine was out by almost a litre/100km over a tank of around town driving. It was in fact 13.2l/100km instead of 14.7. Any way I'm going to pull my ECU out when I get a chance and see what Version it has stamped on it. Email the bosch guy again and get him to confirm which it is. The next thing is where to source a chip that is suitable for our cars? Any suggestions, sounds like EAT are dragging the chain and Turner motorsport got back to me to say they don't have one either. Although it might be worth getting hold of Jim C directly to confirm that about turner. ScD do you still have the chip that they sent you that was wrong?

Response From Bosch: From what I understand from the information I have is that your particular model had the option of a cat or not, depending on which country it was being imported too. Versions with no cat (leaded fuel) also had no oxy sensor. The ECU number remained the same however the software version was different. Check your ECU I believe there should be a version number on it. The no cat version software would ignore the pins related to oxy sensor. I believe the software is installed in the factory, in other words you would need to state either cat version or non cat version when ordering an ECU. Which of course is identified by the version number on the ECU. Theoretically the oxy sensor version would be better on fuel on highway driving, but only slightly. END: So there was a version with no Cat no O2. Is it what we have in our cars? I will pull the ecu at some stage and check the version number.
  18. Paul, I've got Toyo T1-S's on my 535i, seem to be a good tyre. Nice compromise between ride and rigidity. Mine are 45 profile and still are not too bad comfort wise. 245/45/16's I'm a bit under geared though at that size for cruising at highway speeds. 17's would be much better. I've done nearly 5000k's in my car since I've had it and the rubber still seems to be looking pretty good. Not a very scientific longevity account for sure but an indication for you. Seem to be good in the wet. Takes quite a bit to get them to let go and then you have to be trying very hard. They would seem to be good $ vs. value. Wheels...I would love some Alpina 17's. Personal thing though the wheel choice. Slight Deviation: On my Lancia I had Yokohama A520's. You could see them disappear every time I drove it, they stuck well though. The shoulders were so rigid in them it transformed the car in corners!

ScD, mine is New Zeland New and has no O2 sensor or Cat. My DME # is .179. So yes I'm guessing that it is running open loop with no feed back! I have emailed Bosch to find out if the .179 Motronic v1.3 was ever designed or used in the above configuration. If there was v1.3 with no Cat no o2. I presume it would be a euro, south african spec Eprom. Hence I've been looking to the UK for a new chip to find out the story over there. Kiwi, open road i get easily 10.5l/100km. That included ripping up and over the crown range through to wanaka from Qtown. Around town 15l/100km. How does this compare to yours? Indeed how does this compare to the US 535's? Also am I right, when I say, at W.O.T. the o2 sensor is ignored anyway?? Hence on a Dyno power run no o2 sensor would make no difference and nothing would show up?? Incidentally I was talking to a Mech friend on the weekend. He had heard that there was a commodore of the same era that when an O2 sensor was hooked up, improved them immensly, economy and grunt. The problem, running in open loop! Supplied from the dealer with no O2 sensor or Cat. BTW Scd you weren't down near the Marshlands road round about a few weeks ago? Silver 535i, spotted me and gave it the jandle? (mine is silver 535i also)

From what I have gathered, the ecu is set up on std cars to get good economy, and if fitted with a catalytic converter to keep the gas that is passing into it at the optimal range so as to allow it to perform. Which is an air fuel ratio of approx 14:1. All of the above is to pass emissions test. The car manufactures have std tests that they do for economy runs etc. It is set up to optimise that as well. None of the above conditions are for good power! I've had a bit of a play with a S13 CA18DET engine. There were big hollowsand lumps in the fuel maps. With the aid of a wideband O2 sensor to check what was happening, we leaned it out in a few places and enriched it in others. the car was noticably more responsive and felt faster. Not scientific but the is my 2cents worth. I know it is a turbo so probably the differences were more pronounced. But heh why not have you car optimised and doing things as well as it can.
  22. That looks like a nice subtle change you made there. Just the right height. Richard.

I'm pretty keen to find out the full story on our ECU no Cat situation. When you had you car on a Dyno Paul did they monitor your fuel/air ratio? (I gather from previuos posts that you have done this) That I would have thought would have indicated if the ECU doing anything out of the ordinary. Also I guess if the ECU thinks it has a cat to warm up to temp asap it will be doing things that aren't required for our cars. Richard.
  24. Yes but $15,000 and 100hp and the EDC suspension, are certainly differences that I think certiainly are considerable and will show up very quickly when pushing on. Apperances are similar, until you open the bonnet. So I still maintain our cars are not even close. There is also something intangable about an //M being handbuilt (at least until the last of the M5 e34's) that adds to the car. IMHO. I personally am quite happy to not have the maintance costs involved with M cars, and as I drive it everyday it is by far a better option for me. (renovation on the house is sucking all my money at the moment so it is a moot point) I've had very little quality time with the car, heading down to Qtown next week and I can't wait. Bring on the Lindus Pass and the Kawarau Gorge. Back on Topic: Both have their place, M cars vs Mtech equipped cars. But this brings us to the point of this whole thread. Either the car is or isn't a //M car, and in my opinion there are no shades of //M cars. I suppose then the question is has the car got enough goodies on it to warrent badging it to identify the car as so equipped. The opinion of our learned friend's here in the forum has certinaly answered that. It comes down to a personal thing. Unfortunatly the badging BMW have choosen is ambiguous. So if you want people to think your car is something it isn't, then badge away. More power to ya. Well that is a bit of a rant and I hope no one is offended. Thanks Andrew for a great Forum.

My DME # is 0 261 200 179 That is interesting RXSUMO. Sounds like BMW did a bit of a Half Job on the import of that M5 car anyway. They could well have done the same with ours! Richard.
