One thing to be very careful of when changing the selector shaft seal, is that you don't damage the selector shaft and put any 'dings' or 'nicks' into it. That happened to mine and this caused a new seal to wear within 2 weeks each time, a real cause of frustration. In the end I had to buy a second hand gearbox (off Mike in here) and I got this rebuilt and installed in my car. This was much better than replacing the damaged selector shaft (which apparently was going to be a major drama). Good luck with getting it all sorted. Cheers Grant

I know I will rock the boat here, but I don't like it at all. Those wheels are shocking. Cheers Grant

How many M powered cars are on the forum?

Very very nice.Cheers Grant -
Definately Granit Silver (or whatever the Krauts call it). That is the label on the strut anyway.granitsilber - metallic...I just went and checked.
-
No - it is definately Brake Fluid, without a doubt. Definately not the ABS light.I have double checked in the owners manual. Also I have the same light, with the same symbol and don't have ABS.
-
It depends, isn't there some aguement or grey area with regards driving lights vs fog lights. I seem to recall that additional lights we have on our BMW's are classed as driving lights as opposed to fog lights...but I may be mistaken. Cheers Grant

Granit Silver is the colour of mine.No where near my favourite colour BMW either, but then I don't really give a rats about colour (within reason). I'm not that metro. Don't really have a favourite, just judge each car on its merits I guess.

What is the point in that? Who gives a sh*t.
-
Yup, I an you are right, it is the brake hydraulics warning light.Should come on and go straight out when engine has started. If it comes on at any other time it is indicating that the brake fluid level is too low. The ABS warning light actually has the letters ABS inside the circle. Cheers Grant

Looks good. The wheels aren't my thing, and neither is the M badging (especially the M3 badge), but overall a good looking car. Thieves suck ass.

cool, you are now on my mates list.Yup, you have made a reasonably average start (not that mine is too flash either). The sad thing for me is that after two weeks, I am being beaten by my mother (but she is a mad rugby fan). Cheers Grant

Ahh, there is nothing wrong with a bit of healthy debate, it is the whole point behind a democratic society, sure people have differing opinions, and that is great.Wouldn't it be a boring place if everyone all thought exactly the same thing...or worse, were unable to have an opinion, or be allowed to express their opinion. I'm probably in a moniority of my friends who will be voting Labour, and that is fine, they are no less my friends than they were before, and I would like to think that I am no less of a friend in their eyes. Also, should National win, I won't be going around feeling sorry for myself and thinking that everyone else is wrong, I will accept that the majority of people in NZ wanted to National to win, and carry on. Hell, who knows, I could be the one who is wrong about it all. Good thread though, lets hope it stays clear of personal attacks, and that the debate remains civil, and educated (as much as it can be). Cheers Grant

I think my point here was missed. My point was that voting for a party who are never going to gain the required 5% of the party vote is a waste of time (hence voting for ACT). Sure they were a reasonably successful minor party once upon a time, but not any more. They were at their height when Roger Douglas was the brains behind the party (as he was a very skilled economist....even if I didn't really agree with his philosophy). Now they are a bunch of fledgling political individuals who form a single party in the loosest possible way. My point was, voting for a party that isn't going to get the required 5% is a waste of a vote under the current MMP system.

You might as well not vote. You and the other 3 ACT voters in the country are just wasting their votes. The whole election is really a two horse race, so to make your vote count you have to realistically vote Labour or National. However it appears (unfortunately) that NZ First and the Greens will get in excess of 5% each, and will have some form of representation. Whatever happens, it will be an interesting election this year, much more interesting that it has been the last few. All in all, I don't feel that the two main parties are too different in their overall direction, with Labour being only slightly left of centre, and National only slightly right, whilst I would like to see labour win this election and maintain the balance of power, I don't think the country is in dire straights should National win. However, I still don't think that Don Brash is a suitable leader for the National party, but they really have no-one else, to me it is a pity that Bill English was a tad too young to become leader when he did, as I think he had good long term potential. As for Helen Clark, sure she is no supermodel, but I think that she is a good leader, and has governed the country well over the past two electoral terms. DNZ, interesting you comment that BMW = National and Lada = Labour? Is that a reference to where the cars come from..i.e Lada being from Russia's Socialist past, and BMW being from a traditionally right winged Germany...if so, you should have a renewed look at this as Germeny is now a rather left of centre democracy, whereas in recent history capitalism has run amok in Russia. I would have thought that Lada was more akin to ACT, unreliable, badly put together, never going to make it in the long run, relies on using other companies 5 year old ideas, whereas to me the BMW brand is more akin to Labour than any other party, that being well established, stable, predictable and airing on the side of the conservative. I am struggling to pick a car brand, that to me would represent National...maybe Alfa Romeo, well established, relies on traditional following, on the face of it dynamic and a little self centred....not the best example probably, but the best I could think off on short notice. Right, must go to work now. Cheers Grant

Exactly, I couldn't agree more.

I agree, what do you mean?

I'm voting Labour, both party vote and candidate vote. I'm a bit of a lefty (not the tree hugging vegetarian type mind you) though. Cheers Grant
