Theres gotta be a changeover period on the E39 540's - model update or something?? Somewhere around 2000 maybe?? Facelift, & then got VANOS valvetrain etc?? Early E39s, 1996-2000 are thus 'cheaper' for a reason.......personally I think this silver car is sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!

I agree with the above bits - did used to be 'better' years ago. Your last line has got a bit of merit in some ways - how bout 2 x 500km races @ Bathurst, 1st 500 'normal' direction, take placings, have a 30min pit stop, then fire em up for 500kms going the 'other' way around Bathurst, eg, up Conrod straight?? Winner then becomes best of 2 race averages........plus it stops the boys getting dizzy after 161 laps one-way........

You boys from Apiti are open-minded bout lots of things apparently............... If you want economy - buy a Prius or a pushbike. reality is the arabs are pumping the $hit outa the ground for a reason, so ya might as well use it I reckon. 2-->3 litres / 100k difference is not even a snack at M'cD's or 'Chucky Ducky' anyway, so hardly worth wanting councilling or a group hug over it...........fuel vapour makes nice exhaust sounds. And the more you're using, the BETTER it soundz!!!!!

This argument has merit, but IMO only when you're driving at 8/10ths plus, in terms of driver skill & vehicle capacity........... I wouldn't exactly call a V8 BMW 'boaty'............!!!!!!!!!!!??????????? By any stretch of the imagination!!!

The 6 is ok, its just the 8 is better............and ya can make most things sound LOTS better with a bit of work - imagine how sweet the mother-in-law would sound if she were in a batts-lined wheelie bin........... BTW - That 540i - I reckon its at least $1500 over-priced.........

Yea, making a post in general or Auckland region is probably a good idea, or get seller to take it to HellBM (Ray) or BM World (Brent), pay them to inspect it - negotiate with seller from there........ Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet looking car - wheels go well with the paint!!! (Slightly biased, as I have a blue car on 42's too!!) Edit - I too wouldn't exactly be calling 'this' a downgrade - least its got a bit of 'character' to it, unlike the Mazzy ya ditched....... (I can legitimately say that, as my partner as a similar Mazda........)

Well true in that there wasn't many stacks / rain etc.............Murphy clipping the wall, Nissan vs roo, & Nissan V8 2 stroke motor were about only dramas.............
