    Rust Repair

Unfortunately/Fortunately that was the only serious body rust on my car. If it wasn't i would do a full picture step by step write up. However, ill write something up with the pictures i have and ill take some pics of the gear/products i used. dubman: yes, i grind down to bare metal and had to grind right through in several places to make sure no rust was left. I then used Fiberglass Reinforced body filler behind the fender to fill the holes and Lightweight body filler for the surface.

    Rust Repair

So i took it upon myself to try my best to fix this rather bad rust on my fender. I promised myself i would do a better job than what i attempted with the painters brush on the poor Mazda so here it is. It's definitely a weekend job if you do everything right. So id be willing to do a write up if anyone shows interest. this is the best pic i have of the problem. It continued behind the bumper and bubbled all the surrounding paint, after grinding ALL of the rust out it had gone right through in about 4 places. After grinding, filling, sanding and priming i painted. DONT DO THIS~! I hard masked thinking i could preserve the original paint, don't bother. You need the spray can to blend for you. So i re-masked and gave it another shot then 1500 wet sanded, cut, polished and waxed. don't ask me why the bumper is like that, the mount wont go any higher haha. Also the resprays on this car aren't the best. John was right to be fussy about it

    Quick Questions

for stone chips, no, although i might try it and let you know how it goes - at the moment i am only cutting and polishing the spray job ive done on the fender as that has come out very matte. spray > 1500 wet paper > cutting solution > polish and wax

    Quick Questions

are you talking about stone chips or have you used a spray can? i just used a tooth pick to get the paint into the stone chips, waited a min or so for it to dry a bit and wiped the excess away with wax and grease remover. that way it preserves the original paint and just fills the hole with the correct colour.

    Quick Questions

Cheers mate, the nice lady at spray store said she would cut it for me if i bought it in so i didn't have to pay $17 for a jar of the stuff then i will polish and wax from there. thanks
  7. Mark, you should totally put my 16s on your E30 just to see how it looks

    Quick Questions

Sorry to interrupt... Could someone give me some suggestions on how to blend/polish my touch up paint job? I have used a lacquer from a spray can and it's obviously more matte than the rest of the paintwork. Cheers.
  9. already have FF and Grease Monkey. Cool script, cheers
  10. wicked mate, will give that a go. thanks a lot.
  11. so removing the bolts on the side panels isn't a problem but the two bolts at the front of the car that are attached to what i assume are shock absorbers, i can't get too. small spanner maybe? and also...you have to tension the bolts correctly, yes? is there a way i can do that with standard tools? the reason for removing the bumper is to get to a rust spot so i can clean it up and re-spray it. cheers team
  12. that's what i was going to do...was just wondering why the extra wire was needed :/ Edit: the original wire leads into what i think is the back of the ignition. and yes, all works ok without it, it seems.
  13. Hi there. Poorguy was nice enough to send me an indicator from his 528i as the plastic broke in mine so it couldn't return. I thought it would be a relatively simple swap but have come across this... This is a connection from my old indicator: The input it went into: (from the column) The new indicators output. so, not quite sure what to do here. Can anyone shed some light on this? BTW - i have tested the new indicator and everything works so i am even more intrigued on what this grey wire is for Cheers.
